Why are women expected to be the mature adult in these relationships? Why can’t men govern themselves from acting like small children, and when they see a valuable woman, treat her as such? Why is that too much to ask? Why do we have to babysit a man’s behavior? Why can’t he do that???
He can unless it's the wrong he and there are a lot of wrong ones out there. I've learned to ask myself: Why would I tolerate this? What am I trying to get from this manboy that I can't give to myself or find in someone who's done the inner work like I have? Usually, I've allowed inexplicable, incongruent, hypocritical, disrespectful or disloyal behavior because I'm subconsciously trying to correct a relationship from childhood. When I recognize that was never my problem to fix because I was just a child and I can now meet my own needs or find safe people to meet them, there's no longer a perceived need for the manboy. Then, I'm free and he's stuck with himself.
