I’m not a fan of anything Chino has done but he definitely likes great bands, which is weird because his music sucks. You’d think with influences like My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Christian Death, The Cure, Cocteau Twins, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, etc he’d release something decent.
3827167492842 The Sound and especially The Chameleons also likely influenced Interpol. Guitar wise, The Chameleons likely had more of an influence on Interpol than Joy Division.
@@soysaucehairdye7869 Yeah those bands sound so much more like interpol. People focus way too much on Paul's voice though. Dan just kinda struck gold finding him because apparently Paul was mostly into hip-hop and had never listened to Joy Division.
@@Lizard1582 Yeah I definitely agree with you m8. Whats kind of crazy is that Jeff Buckley was heading towards that sound as well before he died in 97. His second album which isn't necessarily completed songs has a lot of post-punk influences and it would have been insane to see both him and Interpol come out of New York with that awesome sound at around the same time. Jeff Buckley had his hand on the pulse right before the post-punk revival imho.
its how i discovered interpol and she wants revenge, i typed in bands that sound like joy division and thats what poped uped. this was ages ago to like mid 2004 and i was on frost and limewire 🤢 id seen johnny darko and heard joy division playing in a scene and loved it off the rip. im actually really into SONG SEVEN right now its so hypnotic
I love Deftones, for some reason, to this day. And I agree with him, Turn On The Bright Lights is an absolutely perfect album. It's alchemical gold. Whatever they were doing worked out perfectly.
I agree, i discovered interpol during my high school years and i started with antics, absolutely became enamored with their video for Evil lol then later discovered their other albums and loved them all even up until the fourth record. Anything after that i think they sort of declined a bit in terms of quality song writing. But the first 3 records are gold.
it's such a spectacular album and if you were there (I was 11th grade of high school) then you just KNOW what a huge impact Turn on the Bright Lights made at the time that shit was on LOOP in EVERYONE's car at EVERYONE's party it was a major milestone for "indie" music as little 16 year olds it changed how we talked, how we dressed, and what musical influences we looked into next what a hold over us that album had
For some reason the weird Deftones and Interpol crossover makes total sense haha two moody, somewhat corny, somewhat serious rock bands maybe? I love them both by the way
when you can play a album and not skip a track and listin and like every track thats when you found something special. mine include the strokes first 3 albums, the killers first 2 albums, albert hammond jrs complete discography ,brighteyes everything up to Cassadaga, to name a few
I can’t help but notice he mentioned Carlos said he was into def leopard and such… but numerous interviews he states his background in music influence was joy division and bands like that. I think it was another member that said they were into def leopard… not to say Carlos wasn’t influenced by all that… just not my recollection of his musical influences for Interpol.
Agreed. White Pony was special. Interpol songs are all like that... modest mouse... led zeppelin. Don't know why music is so special when it sounds synchronized
i love take you on a cruise and narc but obstacle 1 & 2, pda, and the new are too good personally i prefer their dark and mystic sound. their basslines were better on tobl too as carlos started to rely on octave jumps as a bit of a crutch during antics.
Why? Why would you like an album by a band that’s basically like Joy Division (I know, that comparison has been done to death) but with none of the passion, genuine depression, or authenticity. Interpol basically just flashes and flaunts depression and despair and hardship that the well-off, privileged band members have never experienced in their entire lives as if it’s a new NYC luxury designer suit or apartment home furnishing or kitchen appliance (metaphors of which riddle their nonsensical lyrics). It just comes off to me as completely insincere and phony and I hate that.
They were not a privileged or well-off band. Most of them were working minimum wage and practicing in shitty rental places before they got a record deal 6 or so years after having struggled. I can get not connecting with an album as much but just making shit up to try and explain why something that doesn't click with you should not click with others either is some room temperature iq shit. I think the well-off, privileged band you're thinking of are The Strokes not Interpol. And there's enough passion and authenticity in that first album that's it's still being praised two decades after it's release. So the problem here obviously isn't in the album but in you.
I had no idea Chino liked Interpol. My respect for him just went even higher!
@Ciarraan Mooorann no, because he likes a group of highly talented songwriters that I'm also a fan of, when I didn't expect he'd listen to them

Chino always has great taste in music. If you like the Cure, Smiths, & Joy Division, it's hard not to like Interpol.

Most of those songs were just written out of the blue. It didn't take long for Interpol to start the album
❤️❤️❤️
Now I kinda agree but I personally think Turn on the bright lights is Interpol’s 2nd best album. But it is still hands down an amazing record.
"For some reason?" Deftones are an amazing band, it's not a fucking mystery.
No. It’s just post-punk with none of the emotion or sincerity.
This makes me love Chino even more
CPBrennan he mentioned how much he loved the album back in 2003 interview.
tedwolfmanryan Deftones and Interpol are two of my favourite bands. It's nice knowing they appreciate each other despite the different genres.

Antics is pretty on-par with quality songs, but TOTBL has a much more cohesive sound and mood.

my two favorite bands: Deftones and Interpol .....i love them-..from Peru
Untitled track one mind blowing.
Untitled and The New are the best examples of what makes that album so special.

paul banks with carlos dengler and stef carpenter

turn on the bright lights really changed my life
Dude Diamond Eyes is one of my favorite album of all time. I listen to it weekly all the way through for years now
This album is underrated, honestly. That’s awesome that chino likes “turn on the bright lights”
Not underrated, just not as popular as it deserves to be. I think anyone into post punk would hold it in high regards.
Rei!!
It's considered one of the best albums of it's era; definitely not underrated.

wow nice to ear chino talking about carlos .. chino always inspiring so much
Interpol and Deftones greatest bands forever ❤
