Shoulder press should be an interesting one due to the direct carryover. And maybe test out your Squat since you've actually been doing weighted squats.
His strength is there. He just needs a brief linear progression to allow for the neuromuscular adaptation followed by a brief peaking cycle. Could probably hit it in a month or two.
Looks like the ability to bench heavy is there, just needs to bench more often to get familiar with the movement and get his form right. I think he could hit 300 pretty quickly if he started benching more often.
Dude, your form looked partly better a year ago. Here's what I noticed in your current video: you're all over the place. Like, your arms shake so much, and it's not because the weight is too heavy: it's because you don't seem to be well settled into the bench. Your feet were too far back. Arching is good. But with your toes that far back, you have a really poor contact with the floor, and it makes you less stable. Also, a year ago you were calm. You controlled the weight all the way to your chest, and you used a narrower grip. This time you tried to use a wider grip. You nearly dropped the weight to your chest in the bottom third (almost bottom half) of the rep, and when it was time to push on it again, your muscles weren't pre-tensed because you had just released them too much. I think that instead of trying a max on bench press out of the blue, you should do a 1-2 weeks phase where you actually do bench press to get used to it, and then you can test your max for real.
Great work. Kudos to you for developing such amazing all around strength. As a powerlifter myself(very novice tho) , I wanna give you a few tips so u cam feel more comfortable next time you are benching. 1. Do keep working with the grip you feel more comfortable with. Going wider is easier only if you are used to it. It makes the lift easier but comfort can make a big difference. 2. Dont drop the weight during the negative/eccentric. Afterall, you wouldnt just let gravity do the work on a handstand pushup, then try to press up. Many people try to divebomb to make it feel easier, which is not always so. Going down with control can up your poundage in the bench and barbell back squats quite a bit. 3. Do push the ground continually with your legs. The bench press is a lift that requires full body tension. Just like you wouldnt do lets say a plank without squeezing ur core, legs and basically whole body, you don’t want to bench without making sure ur legs are firing contributing to full body tension. This works very well with tip #2 because lowering the weight under control while tensing the whole body will feel more natural than just trying to drop the weight to the chest and then trying to press back up.
of all the basic gym lifts, the bench press is the one that seems to rely most on having a certain bodyweight for most people... in other words, once you lose a few pounds, your max bench is the first thing to suffer.
@Gaming Legend 246 how the fuck do you start calisthenics with being able to do 10 one arm push ups? Were you weight lifting? If so, how is your left arm so weak, i dont understand how many mistakes you have to make to do that. Please respond as soon as you see this, thank you
@oof sauce Yes there is some truth to that, sadly people use that to justify themselves jacking off every single day and watching porn for hours on end because they are addicted but dont want to admit it.
Very impressive for your size and a guy that doesn't bench press. Keep the core tight and drive the legs through the floor. No doubt you would have hit that weight with more practice.
Don’t be too hard on yourself bro. That number is very impressive for someone who doesn’t train bench press at all. No doubt you can increase it with practice. Your WAY more skilled than most who can bench 285 in terms of being well rounded. Great work Austin!!!
You are probably better doing closer grip because of the carry over from most of the movements that you do are with the arms being 90 degrees with the torso. Examples being with the 90 degree HSPU, planche pushups, dips, etc. I bet if you kept your form with a close grip to begin with, you would've hit 275lbs from the beginning instead of being fatigued from going back down and trying to work up again. None the less, great content as always brother.
A 50lbs jump isn't that bad. His form could've gotten him more. He's also never experienced beginner gains which is the production of myocellular processes that comes from compound lifts. If he practiced benching for a month his bench would go up to 335 easy

They Austin, I'm 73 kilos 1.78 tall. Been doing calisthenics and other kinds of different training methods. Last summer I got operated from Ingunial hernia and after the operation i started training again after 3 months have passed. On the 6-th month I went to gym. I was really worried of how much kilos I will bench press after surgery and many years of not lifting heavy. So I went to the bencpress and I put 70 kilos on and I couldn't feel them :D Then 80 still the same, 90 not even a slight 100 when i started to feel a little bit of pressure so I started doing my reps with 100 and went up to 140 in 3 weeks. I could press 140kg last set (5-6 times) with fully extened arms, no arch in the back and the bar almost hitting my chest. You just need a little adaptation and you won't even feel the weights ! Actually you will outperform a lot of people. Respect!

Yo Austin. So I cant hit what you do on bench or even your level of calisthenics. But a tip that someone told me for benching that has helped me is how you hold the bar. I used to hold it like you, with a closed grip. I feel that I am able to push through a last rep, or a PR much stronger with an open grip. Try it out let me know what you think. Great video man. I love seeing how calisthenics transfers to weight training, but body builders cant do calisthenics as well haha

I’ll be going for 405lbs on squat and 500lbs on deadlift. Maybe I’ll lean down again so I can do human flagpoles and all that lmao
I am 17years old and have traumer for 1,5years and my 1rm on bench is 122,5 but i can only to like 11 pullups. I want to be able to do 20 pullups, got any tricks and tips? Love your content❤️

if you want to bench more, than literally bench more (often). It's impressive to hit 265 without any formal bench training, but your technique can definitely improve a lot and if you dedicate time to just perfecting your technique and staying tight you are already capable of hitting at least 295.
I love body building. but I recently transferred my training to calisthenics mostly and it's a different ballgame. I learned how to handstand. currently working on a full plance. I will say that weight lifting made me feel alot stronger then calisthenics. but calisthenics makes me handle my own body weight alot better ofcourse. I'm gonna try to implement both in my training.
I do gymnastics and have not benchpressed for years. So Ive got no idea hor hard it is but to me it looks like 111 kg for 77 kg bodyweight is a lot ? Isnt it ?
That’s still a damn good bench for a guy that only weighs 170 and doesn’t bench regularly. I know guys that weigh 200 and still struggling with 275 and they bench regularly so the calisthenic training is working you just have to get use to the movement. I would also try more weighted pushups with people on your back. It will get you use to feeling more heavy weight.
I think the reason why you weren’t able to go higher bro is because you were going up weight so your muscles were already tired. You should try doing it again but do your heaviest right away. I bet if you do that you will def go higher in weight. You’re strong af dawg 💯

if you want to bench more, than literally bench more (often).
Calisthenics POWER! 👊💪
I do gymnastics and have not benchpressed for years. So Ive got no idea hor hard it is but to me it looks like 111 kg for 77 kg bodyweight is a lot ? Isnt it ?
265 - #saucy 🔥🔥
Its weird cuz he did hit 275 a year and a half ago.
If you worked on your bar path, and keep your elbows tucked a little more you could hit 315. You have the strength for it.
Lol u socked the crap outta that 265 tho lol 😂
I think the reason why you weren’t able to go higher bro is because you were going up weight so your muscles were already tired. You should try doing it again but do your heaviest right away. I bet if you do that you will def go higher in weight. You’re strong af dawg 💯
How many normal pushups can you do in a row
how heavy is one "plate" ??
Americans keep mentioning it like it's a standard weight unit... I've been lifting for years no idea what it is...
Typically, the largest weight plates are 45 lbs. but some more specialized gym have 55 lbs. plates.
You should add in just a lil bit bench Every week from now on and i think you will get really strong at it.
