- Welcome to the channel today I am going to show you how to get better weapons and armor in Nioh by using my updated step by step Blacksmith tutorial. You may have seen my beta blacksmith tutorial, but it is outdated so I am bringing you a new version.
There are many new features to the blacksmith that we didnt have in the beta, such as forge and disassemble. In Nioh Disassemble lets you break down weapons and armor you have collected into different crafting materials (high quality, higher quality, and highest quality). With forge you can upgrade those Nioh blacksmith materials and forge new weapons and armor. When forging one thing to keep in mind is that you only have a CHANCE to roll a highest quality weapon, it is not guaranteed. A few notes from my last blacksmith tutorial:
Welcome to the channel, this is tracerbeast bringing you a Nioh blacksmith tutorial with tips and a Muneshige boss walk through. So I have seen plenty of videos and comments saying that the blacksmith is not available in the Nioh Beta. This is not true at all! While some of the features are not available in the beta, you can use the blacksmith to soul match and reforge weapons and armor and get the best out of your gear. There is only a small notification after you finish the deep in the shadows mission that you have unlocked the blacksmith so this feature has been overlooked. You access the blacksmith in Nioh by going to the starting point and looking through the menu. There is no tutorial on how to use the blacksmith in game, it is all trial and error and can cause you to ruin some of your gear but I will show you the gameplay. That is why I am bringing you this Nioh blacksmith tutorial, to help you from making a mistake when soul matching or reforging. So the Nioh blacksmith has three features: Buy/sell weapons, Soul match, and reforge. Buy and sell is a pretty standard blacksmith feature and not worth any attention as the weapons for sale are low level and without any rarity. Soul match is the ability in the blacksmith in which you can upgrade the level of a piece of gear by sacrificing another piece of gear at a higher level. Reforge is the ability in the blacksmith to reroll a single property of that weapons stats. The best time to use the blacksmith is after you have completed the Muneshige fight because he drops the highest level gear in this demo.

tracerbeast i dont know if this really matters but my main character has a boat load of luck, around 80 since i use the bird spirit combine with 2 acc with high luck i found. But on a basic story mission i can get up to 20+ purple weapons!
Luck is the best stat when farming, it increases the chances for better drops and in turn can net you a lot more mats/gold/ etc. So you hit the nail on the head!
I have a question , does the blacksmith sell the Veteran's armor set / Because i couldn't find it in the main game .

The best all around stats you can get on a weapon are:
1) Close Combat Damage 15% (20 @ max fam)
2) Familiarity Damage Bonus A
3) Change to Attack (stat) A for highest stat
4) Parry Disabled
5) Weaken Armor (Torso)
6) Weaken Melee Weapons
here's an advanced crafting tip for post game (after you start finding divine armor (green text)) break them down and hoard fragments. when forging you press triangle to change the material you wish to use, it replaces white with green, blue being lowest quality. you can add a total of 10 fragments for a maximum of I believe it was 85% chance for max quality. same applies to reforaging, triangle to change the mats for a much greater chance at aquiring exotic armor effects like adding elemental damage, life, elemental damage reduction, ect
divine ARMOR has its OWN familiarity, meaning as you use it, it's stats Drastically improve.
** not mention in the video**
when you soul forge your familiarity will reset, meaning you have to remaster it. it's damage, armor, or stats will be lower at first. pay more attention to the level.
after level 150 the armor gains a sort of prestige level
( level 150 +2) for example.
for what I learned so far, to increase that level it requires equal or greater level value
150 + 150 = 150+1
150+1 + 150 = 150+1
150+1 + 150+1 = 150+2
ect... highest I personally have is +3 atm.
talk to the smith after you get gramps and add points to discount soul matching and reforging. it will save you, I shit you not, millions. this shit is NOT cheap, I sell a lot of mats and armor just to soul match and reforge 2 or 3 pieces of gear. so make sure you're working on a build you like. I highly recommend researching set bonuses. they took a huge que from Diablo's popular loot system, it will be a farm and one hell of a grind

if you are soulforging an item, the cost is less if you use a better quality item. i.e. if you're upgrading a lvl 40 item to a lvl 41 item, if you're using a 41 white, it will cost more than if you're using a lvl 41 yellow.

Why would you use anything but purple gear? it is ridiculously plentiful. Everything you get from them is better than any other rarity of same level and a few levels higher. But still, nice to know.

good tutorial but you miss a very important part of the soul match.
On weapon only , if you reach maximum familiarity you can transfer the the stats that are mark with a |>| to the base weapon you want.

Very thorough guide. Well done man. What i started doing instead of soul matching is just forge higher lvl sets as i go further into the game.
Oh and selling those Higher Quality mats, or at least part of them, is a good way of getting money.

Does this mean it's most sensible to get the lightest purple armour possible, then just level it up (for the increased defense) and reroll stats to your liking?

@@thunderlifestudios that's a big downside for me. If you do everything that the blacksmith includes, you spend way too long in menus comparing and double checking gear before you either lock it or disassemble it and it gets monotonous comparing your stats in different gear combos and set ups while trying to collect a full gear set. And then you gotta look at every piece of gear's attributes and calculate those so a weapon with an attack of 850 can be stronger than a weapon with a 900 attack.. I guess it could be part of the fun of you're in the mood to do that shit

hey tracer im doing the raijatai mission to gain amrita but after each time i beat it it gives me a sandalwood but wont let me use was just a one time thing if so why keep it as a reward each time
at what level should i start using the blacksmith? is it worth early game or just at the end / when you start a new game?
So I have a question I just got the smithing text for raging bull spear, I handed over text to smith but I can't forge it, It appears grayish like if you are missing ingredients. But I double checked I have everything. This is really frustrating. I wonder if it is a bug. I try other char it cannot craft spears neither. Pls help

Nice tutorial, Personally I dismantle purps only and use the rest for xp. I seem to get plenty of chunks still but then again i dont reforge a whole lot.

I got a question, I am trying to improve my weapons but I cannot figure out how to move in that direction. I have completed the game on the Way of the Samurai and I am on the Way of the Strong difficulty now so I do have access to divine gear. I already have acquired a bunch of materials through disassembling gear and done some farming of the revenants. However, I'm still not really moving in the direction of improving gear. What I'm looking for is how to increase the attack value number (the big number on the right underneath familiarty) and the defense value for the armor. When it comes to forging a weapon, the options that I current have available are all less than the weapon that I currently have. For example, I currently have an odachi with an attack value of 1005. However, if I try to forge another one, the one with the highest attack value I can get is 842. The same is true with the other weapons. Is there a way to forge weapons with higher attack values? Because so far I'm not finding the blacksmith to be that useful. I really don't know if getting more smithing texts would necessarily mean higher attack values on forging weapons.
That attack power will go up once you reach max familiararity, buy the dlc and you get access to new weapon types, new regions and missions, new gear rarity, and much higher levels. You would even be able to get to lv. 750 as the cap

Playing this thanks to Ps Plus and what a pain in the ass this Forge. Same goes with damage. Keep leveling up but my character is weak and most bosses start doing yolo things. You can't combo them but they can. So it's a hit a run game. :/
I didn't offer my weapons because they would only give like, 10 or so Amrita. I kept them to see what else I could do with them. It was worth it.
How do you unlock more armor to forge? I’m at the end of the game, 2nd to last boss fight and there’s still a fairly small selection of armor to forge
You need to acquire Smithing texts: most are dropped from bosses, the only way to increase your chances are item drop+ luck+ type builds.
Should I be carrying stuff in the first level?
whats the build ur using.... im trying to do a kurasigama build and not entirely sure how to optimise and what gear i should use
I am using a Kusarigama with an A+ rating for dexterity, the four piece warrior of the west set and the four piece Red Dragon for the Close combat boosts. I use Tengen as my guardian for the 60% attack buff, along with the standard mix of attack and defensive onmyo buffs. I use the Shooting star mystic art, and use a variety of stances but high stance for the main damage dealing. I have videos on mystic arts, Tengen, and buffs in Nioh if you would like to check them out. May help you put something awesome together.
Really good tutorial! Just one question. I'm pretty happy with the swords i have in terms of passives and so, but im worried they get too underlevel while i progress, and the ones im finding are not even that better actually. The problem is that when i find good equipement to soulmatch them and get my katanas in a proper level, it cost a shit ton of money.... Any advice with that? TT
Thanks! I have been looking for good ways to farm gold, and I think I may have something to help you out. Depending on what region you are in, there is usually one sub mission that forces you to kill one dangerous foe or waves of enemies. These are really fast missions and generally a lot of people die. The best gold farming method I have found is the "Greater Demon Hunting" mission in the Kinki region. If you are a high enough level you can finish the fight in under two minutes (do not farm revenants) and after you sell off the gear to the blacksmith you should receive around 35k per turn. This can equate to around 500k-750k in the span of an hour (taking out the time between missions). If you are lower level I suggest something else. In the Chugoku region "The Guardian of the Underworld" is good, but my favorite is "The Battle of Ohashi Bridge" in the Kinki region. What you want to do is farm revenants and sell all the gear you find at the blacksmith. Purple and Blue gear have the best value to sell that is why you want to farm revenants because they are very likely to drop those rarities. Usually doing a run like this takes anywhere between 5-10 minutes and after selling off everything I usually get around 30-40k gold. if you spend an hour doing this you will have anywhere between 180k-440k more gold. You can also just farm the boss on that mission over and over again, but it seems to be more efficient to farm the revenants as well.

i soulmatched my favorite spear it cost a half million coin pieces or maybe 50K
Soulmatching cost goes high depending on that particular weapons base level. Base level means the level of that weapon when you found it. So if you find a level 40 spear and you soulmatched it and made it 45. Won't cost much. But when you level it up from 45-50. It'll cost way more because the game doesn't consider that weapon to be 45. To the game it's a level 40 weapon. And that's +10 levels. Soulmatching in NG is pointless since you'll find that same spear with a different level at some point.
Another part to soul match, every time you soul match an item, the next soul match cost will rise. this makes taking gear from the start to the end near impossible. For example, you have a level 40 sword that you soul matched 3 times already, and a level 40 sword you made/found. The soul matched sword will cost significantly more then unmatched sword you made/found.
I found this out the hard way when I looked at the cost of upgrading my bow (7m gold) compared to the one I just found 20100 gold.
Which actually makes this guide useful for... 10 lvl difference in gear unless you want to spend a ransom on it. I was hoping this would be something specific to remedy that like if Forged items cost less to Soul Match.

No, but why both soul matching early in the game? It is far cheaper to forge a new one or find a new one. Once you hit end game or NG+ all that gear will be pointless anyway.

Hi how do you add , element affects to weapons , i.e. Fire , water , wind , lightning
Use the reforge option, and re-roll one of the stats. Elemental damage has a higher rarity but it is easy enough to roll.

You will eventually find much better weapons. I only soul match before a big mission to see if I get any upgrades.

I just applied Diablo 3 rules. Just wait until end game to do all the reforging / soul matching. Because you can have a God roll level 40 weapon, but you're going to outgrow it if you don't constantly soul match it every 5 levels or so. I had a God rolled level 23 kusarigama, never thought to soul match it since it was perfect for the first area. Then when I got to level 35ish, it wanted damn near a million gold for 12 levels. So imo just hit level (100? 120? Whatever the pvp level is going to be that people will agree on like souls) and then do all your forging then since you're essentially at the "end game".

Nope, you should offer stuff at the shrine. Not only you will level up, and eventually level up your guardian spirits also faster, but you will earn a lot of soul stones and yellow arrows. Those soul stones can charge your amrita gauge instantly before the boss making the game much easier for certain builds if you are playing those. Also especially later in the game materials will mean nothing and gear offered at the shrine will give insane amrita. Keep lower level purple items for disassembly and offer all the others.
If you are only going to do a playthrough or 2 this might work, but eventually you are going to want load's of material's and gold. If you plan on making a decent dmg output set...it's very tough to just find exactly what you want. I found a mix of offering, selling and disassembling is always best.....just play through the game with Mizuchi for the extra amrita gain, that plus oracle blessing is almost +50% amrita gain.
