Perfect Conditions for Landscape Photography with the Nikon D850

- In Winter I like to head towards Bridgetown in Western Australia where the temperatures really drop. If there's no wind the fog and clouds collect in the valleys and make for some interesting landscape photography.

I found a quiet spot in amongst the trees to setup up camp for the night. My camp was very close to where I was planning to shoot the next morning, it is one of the advantages of having the truck set up for camping.
I woke just before first light and could feel the cold crisp air. I was excited, this was the perfect conditions for a cloud inversion and a valley full of mist and fog. As the sky filled with light I could see that's exactly what I had. Now all I had to do was find a composition.
Throughout the morning I watched the cloud swirl around the valley and I was ready with my camera to pick off compositions as the moving fog revealed parts of the landscape.

As a landscape photographer I have never shot above the clouds. After watching your video I definitely will this winter season
Wow - what a treat that inversion was! Not something of a frequent thing for WA . . . . although, in winter perhaps in those valleys down south like that. We often have that kind of dynamic from our deck in Hobart during June. I hate those dull days, but my goodness they are wonderful for some images.

Beautiful scenes in this video Andrew. For a minute there I thought you'd landed back in Tasmania ..!!! Obviously not shot at this time of year in WA.
Almost felt like home with the pine plantation. What an excellent location to shoot from.
So lucky to have that cloud inversion to play with.
Long lens is definitely a bonus too pick out those islands in the mist.

I also loved seeing the drone footage with the streaky shadows in the fog cast by the tree tops.
PS nice seeing you utilise older equipment. Goes to show that you don't need the latest and greatest gear (though nice to have) to produce great photography.
I love these inversions, its nothing that I ever see here in flat Minnesota. The last time I saw cloud formations like this was on an overseas trip.
Beautiful shots! Thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I’ve want to shoot cloud inversions here in Japan close to Tokyo, but the nearest peaks are always covered in thick fog as well. Will have to drive a few more hours to higher elevations maybe. Thank you!
