Courtney, Those beech trees in your video are fantastic. They look huge. I’d love to find that wood just to give one of those trees a hug, even though they look too big to really hug. Thank you for sharing them in this video. I am sure that woodland will give some incredible photographs over time with repeat visits in different conditions and at different times of the year. I look forward to seeing them in future videos. Enjoy!
I bet the tree next to the water would be best shot from in the water. New to your channel and really enjoying it, your photography is great and your personality and sense of humor are enjoyable to watch.
Branching out. Analogy. As a musician, learning another new instrument, you do not have to become super proficient, but it always brings something back you your main one. It is worth trying out new avenues, you may or may not like them, but you learn a new skill set to bring back to the woods.
You brought a great location and beautiful pictures with you. Great moderation and explanations☺. the music goes very well with it. Have a nice time and many greetings Albert
Now that's a way to start a video, the trees are lovely and knarly and the ferns with their pink tinge beautiful, great video, and a great job by your wingman/person.
Enjoyed the video as usual Courtney. Nice dancing as always. Definitely hard to get a composition of the tree with the branches over the water, but you managed it. Look forward to seeing your next video.
Those beech trees are magnificent, they are just up the road from me so I've photographed them many times. One of them is over 600 years old and is the 3rd largest beech tree in the UK. I hope you go back there to get the photo.
great video, and fyi you can call that "thai chi" a sensory strategy or some "release of bad energy", so GOOD on YOU for adding it to this video, and not leaving it on the cutting room floor!, we all need a reset every now and then.
VIDEO!!! Video is your answer! Video is photography at 24 frames or 60 frames or whatever per second. Look at your videos! You have some beautiful footage and it brings pictures to life.
Those trees are a great subject, worthy of your attention in different seasons and conditions, but perhaps not the bright light on this occasion. You gave a great lesson in not just taking photographs for the sake of it, but I look forward to seeing you return to do this subject justice when conditions are better. Thanks, Courtney.
Your moves are super convoluted and I love them! Dance on! Who needs a camera when you're a dancing queen! (Don't give up photography just yet though, lets see what your focus project shows us first!) 💜
Hi Henry i have been watching your video's for a while now and have just watched the last of your Advent series in Cornwall ( Landsend ) well done mate, excellent, wish you a happy Christmas and Happy new year, keep up the good work, I hope to be in the lake diistrict in June 2024
Thanks again Victoria for sharing your experience....I love taking pics of trees as they present great compositions from different angles etc...I enjoyed your video as you always give interesting points of view... love your work... cheers from Australia 🦘🦘😊
It has struck me that your photos are marked out by the attention you give to composition. It is fascinating watching you working to find the perfect composition and explain what you like, and don't like, about each one. I suspect you could apply your knowledge to almost any subject. Oh! your dancing is a wonderful interlude.
Great way to start the journey dancing.❤😂 So enjoyed the woodlands. We have beautiful Oaks here in South Carolina and I struggle to capture there majestic beauty i will keep continue to and tomorrow I will start with a dance may just help if not at least i will make some one laugh. Thank you Courtney for the inspiration .
Woodland portals, whatever next :) Exploring woodland is certainly inspiring as well as relaxing and good for the soul. Enjoyable and informative video, thank you.
Courtney, another option I just thought of was to use a Tilt shift lens and a focus stack, the tilt shift gives a selective focus, and the stack shifts this band around the image, so should deliver what you are aiming for.
I’m so glad you’re into woodland photography, it’s something I really struggle with and you’re insights help. But why is it someone else’s photo of a tree looks so much better than my photo of a tree. Watching and hopefully learning. Thanks
Great video, as always, Courtney! Love the way you talk about your approach to photography , what you’re thinking, what you’re trying to achieve and any new ideas you come up with. Right, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna nick off and learn sone stuff about Focus Direction 😊
No projects yet, but focused areas. I am always trying new things, new processes, and experimentation. Sometimes it a nice surprise, and other times... oh well. I am enjoying your videos and look forward to the next. Love your photography and it keeps me inspired as I often struggle with woodland photography.
Have you given any thought to infrared? Some folks don't like it, but in the conditions you encountered (particularly the first tree), infrared in either color or black and white might be spectacular.
It's always good to broaden your horizons in photography. In my four plus decades of photography I have always kept my options open but at the same time prioritizing my interest or genre in a given span of time to become the best I can in that interest. Fantastic video Courtney... oh and about stitching; have you heard about using Nodal Rails? I've wanting to try using one as it takes care of that parallax issue we get sometimes when shooting a near by subject in a panoramic stitch situation, you just need to find your nodal point of each lens (I call it the lens pivot point) but I'm not sure if distance to subject factors into that... as far as the wind and movement, well that is obviously out of our control.
It's always a treat to watch your videos. Photography is just a hobby for me, so I'm open to taking photos go just about anything that catches my eye. Still, a more focused approach would probably help me learn more about photography. Thanks for entertaining and enlightening us.
courtney, with the ancient tree, you could go for a "focus stack", but with the widest apature, so you blur the trunk, and focus on the branches; the D850 and D750 are both capable of an "auto" mode for this so a shot sequence should be easy, and as you have a tripod, a slow shutter speed can be used, so this will cease any motion, it just dissolves away, leaving a steady shot.
I was watching this video in Costa, some woman was looking over my shoulder watching you dancing.. she looked confused 😂😂 another great video, and keep up the dancing. Kate Bush style springs to mind 😂
Another fantastic video! I wonder how old those trees are. I think this video has given me an idea of what to do to reinvigorate my photography because I feel as if I'm in a bit of a rut this summer.
There's an old gnarly oak tree in the park near me that I photograph regularly. I've struggled with that tree for years. Finally this past winter I was able to make a few good images, while it was snow covered. Now that the old oak tree has leafed out again, I'm struggling.
When I make a pano, I hold down the shutter button for high speed continuous as I pan. This gives the software many frames to choose from, and I can manually remove some that have problems. The downside is that it can take a half hour to stitch the pano with an AMD threadripper CPU, 128Gb RAM, and two high end GPU cards. Seems like that creative dance class is paying off. We're going to need a dance off with Kasey of Camera Conspiracies to settle the world championship of content creators creative dance.
Another entertaining video. Nice job. One suggestion and yes I know you didn't ask for one but the closeups you took in the video look like great subjects to shoot. With the lighting and the backgrounds some closeups would look great, in my opinion. Btw, the trees are great subjects I hope you find the right lighting to capture them to your liking. You have great eye for subjects.
The dance section was great! I'm not sure about the first tree shot, the sky is very brightly bleeding into the leaves... maybe a shot for dawn or dusk? (just my opinion) ;)
I love the perspective you're bringing, although my spoony body/brain is tired at the thought of the level of preparation and attention to detail you put into each photo... Also the random neurodivergent happy dancing makes me happy as well :)
The whole idea behind photography is to make a photo of what you see exactly the same on the finished print. This means not adding or deleting anything from the photo at all. The finished print should look exactly the same as what you saw with your eyes.
I'm just here for the dancing. 😉 Do both. Branch out. Try new things. Shoot subjects that you don't usually shoot. Or shoot them in a way that you wouldn't ordinarily shoot them. Try using a different focal length lens than you normally would use. AND. Try shooting the same subject. It could be the exact same subject. Try shooting it in different light or at different times of year. Shoot it year after year. There are no limitations to photography. Only limitations we put on ourselves.
I’ve been a professional photographer for over 30 years. I started out doing people for money and shot nature for fun. My “nitching down” was deciding only to do nature. I have had others tell me I need to nitch down further and pick something like only trees. My response is nope! Take a look at very successful photographers like Peter Lik aside from shooting very few animals he shoots everything under the sun and stars. I film everything nature and even architecture when I have the desire and though not as successful as Lik I sell a lot of my images in large prints.
If you ever decide to give up photography, hopefully, you won’t, you can take up some type of dancing as that’s always an enjoyable part of your videos.
Not totally empty handed. You came away with a beautiful story and a great video. And the dancing montage was a pleasant addition. 😂.
And the 2023 Wood Nymph Dance Award goes to........Courtney Victoria.👍👍
Courtney, Those beech trees in your video are fantastic. They look huge. I’d love to find that wood just to give one of those trees a hug, even though they look too big to really hug. Your channel has quickly become one of my favorites. Keep up the great work.

You are definitely in my top 3 of videos that I look forward to the most. Thank you.
Now that's a way to start a video, the trees are lovely and knarly and the ferns with their pink tinge beautiful, great video, and a great job by your wingman/person.
Came for the photography, stayed for the dancing (and the photography). Fun one. 😊
Enjoyed the video as usual Courtney.
Nice dancing as always.
Definitely hard to get a composition of the tree with the branches over the water, but you managed it.
Look forward to seeing your next video.
Always nice to have a nice crazy few minutes dancing before any photography begins x
I love your quirky b-roll, like the dancing and the portals 😄
It’s fun and refreshing 👍🏻
Those trees are extraordinary, portal and all!
I like the wide shot of the tree
Well produced video with some great thoughts shared! Thanks for taking me along!

oleeee, dancing again!
These latest dance moves are amazing, keep them coming, they’re great fun 🤩

hope there will be a print book of your "Woodland & Water" ( Bark & Splashes? ) project's image collection some time in the future ;-)
Ottima danzatrice oltre che ottima fotografa !!! Complimenti !!!
Sometimes the forest giveth, sometimes it taketh, as you experienced through that portal. Hopeth the light be on your side in your next adventure
That was a fascinating diversion! We love that you had little duck visitors & that tree capture is wonderful!
Miyajima is stunning. And that guest house! 😍😭
.... excellent work young lady ....
Well done, Courtney. You think your shot before you take your shot. I like your pre-visualizing.
Can't stop watching every new video on your channel! So inspiring!
enjoyed that tnx for sharing
You always put me in mind of Stevie Nicks when you dance around
Yes,the direction.
One day I should visit that place to see with my eyes the Woodland Portal! 😮
Photography is a journey, as is life. You may not find what you expected but wherever you go, there you are...
Your moves are super convoluted and I love them! Dance on! Who needs a camera when you're a dancing queen! (Don't give up photography just yet though, lets see what your focus project shows us first!) 💜
Another great video, Courtney!
Quite like the wide shot of that tree, anchored well. Road closures & roadworks everywhere here in Melbourne makes it a challenge. Love your videos 👏

I love the woodland portal! 🙂 Wish we had some of them here! 😀
I really need to learn and practice those dance moves !! Awesome video as usual Courtney :)
That was an excellent plan B 💃🏻💃🏻
You can't beat woodland & water ..... put them together and booom 🥰📷😀
Informative video. It reminds me I should look at the trees in my yard (and small town) differently.
Another great video. I love the ancient trees!

love your video and yes I like the way you are thinking as I am in the same way good like
Another great vid!
A really, really great locatioin you MUST try - is Wistman's Wood in Dartmoor. try early mornings in the mist. Magic place!
Great video, as always, Courtney! Love the way you talk about your approach to photography , what you’re thinking, what you’re trying to achieve and any new ideas you come up with. Right, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna nick off and learn sone stuff about Focus Direction 😊

Nice to see a focus in the woodlands. Perhaps you'll run across one or more of Thomas Danbo's woodland Trolls!
Great video!
Well that was unexpected. Jazz dance before the shoot.

Love your videos! I find that fisheye lenses capture that sort of tree shot (near the beginning of the video) well.

great video and inspiration, thank you Courtney! How do you like your upgrade from the D750 to the D850? ....a super happy 750 user here :)
I was watching this video in Costa, some woman was looking over my shoulder watching you dancing.. she looked confused 😂😂 another great video, and keep up the dancing. Kate Bush style springs to mind 😂
If I walk across you during the ritual dance, I'd be dancing too so I can blend in. 😅
Great vid as always and I did love the trees!!
Another fantastic video! I wonder how old those trees are. I think this video has given me an idea of what to do to reinvigorate my photography because I feel as if I'm in a bit of a rut this summer.
Great videos. Crazy girl! 😜
Lovely stuff Courtney. Can I ask what’s the weight of your back pack when you’re out there? Thanks✌️🌻
Amazing as always :) for projects, working on putting ideas on paper for two of them at the moment :) Seasons and StarTrails related :)
Really enjoy your videos. Can I ask what size Three Legged Thing you used on the Hasselblad X2D?

I never liked the early summer green in the northern hemisphere but its growing on me, not that much, but a little bit.
Great moves😅. Great video as well
You're funny! Love your video's.

I love your landscape photography work and also think you could grow a second channel focused on interpretive dance.
❤your video +lot to learn from you and I love to know on 850 do u use xqd card? Or sd card plz
👍👍👌👌😊😊❤❤
💃💃💃💃👏👏👏
Is the D750 your secondary camera now or did you replace it?

Fantastic dance :)
Road closures are a normal for living near the M25, also the woodland dancing did it have Kate Bush influences ! ?
7:31 let that engine roar :D
It's official, Courtney has brought sexy back 😁
