This young lady appeared on my recommendations, what an absolute breath of fresh air. I wish you well on your journey to growing this channel. I love your style and personality. Mike
Your ability to storytell is exceptional. Your photography is exquisite. Everything from your B roll to your ear for music supports you being so captivating while inspiring me in my woodland photography. Thank you!
No way! I found your videos about rural Korea a couple of years ago when I was accepted through EPIK and about to move over from the UK. Since being here i've got into photography and your channel came up again on my recommendations, so good to see your channel blowing up!
Very nice video. Lovely humour and and a reminder of the realities of landscape photography. The most important thing is to get out with the camera. Greetings from Norway
What a perfect face, and this accent is a charm. Lomography was the "tech" that shows me the "spirit" that resides on non perfect pictures, like the ones our grands use to take. Those have a soul that the digital perfection lacks, today.
Interesting video and great job on producing it! Not sure about what music suits the cows, but I did notice all of the insects bothering them in those video clips. 😅 Funny how I still get recommended channels I've never seen before in the photography genre.
Thank you for your honesty about perfection with your photography. To many photographers seek absolute perfection with every photo that they shoot. My philosophy is not to seek perfection rather the enjoyment of creating, learning to create my creative work. Most of all learn from your mistakes and experiment with your creative side of your photography.
"There is no failing. Only winning or learning." That's a great outlook. My friends think I'm too hard on myself for my photography but I see self criticism as a path to improvement too. Great video and beautiful images. I liked the boat house and the last 2 images.
I swear RUclips is reading my mind. A lot of what you said in this video is exactly what I have been thinking about today as I try to get past some frustrations. This is exactly what I needed to see right now. Thank you!! I have never heard of your channel until now but I am now subscribed.
I discovered your videos a few weeks ago and have been watching several a day ever since. At least most mornings with coffee. I appreciate the humor and the story you tell. Not heavy with tech info. Well balanced. If you ever decide to do leisurely tours of the English countryside I’m in!!!
I started photography with SLRs over thirty years ago during the days of film. Now reviving those skills in the digital age, and the learning curve continues. Only this time at much less cost, instant results, and good advice and inspiration from videos such as this.
Agreed fully. As a hobbyist; I want to enjoy shooting my favorite subjects frequently whatever it might be. Feeling the obligation to be good at it like a pro is a huge barrier for enjoying this lovely hobby. Furthermore, if I can capture hundreds and hundreds of shots, one or two is sure to come out nice. That's good enough for me for showing to friends and family members. I don't need to present myself as a heavyweight to customers because, I don't have any customers. This is neither my job nor my business of livelihood. I have other profession to make a living. Thank you for the great video.
Courtney, small tip..always have a Bin bag in your Camera bag.. so you can take Camera body & change Lenses inside bag, to keep dust out of internals..it works!! If I come away with a single keeper per photography outting, I'm content. Biggest lesson, learn your craft & stick to techniques needed & know your Camera & Lenses.
Well said Courtney. As photographers we are all striving for that portfolio shot, the perfect shot. As you said most of the time we fail at producing that. In fact putting all that pressure on ourselves actually pushes us to probably produce sub par work. The less pressure we put on ourslves and just let it flow I think the better chance we give ourselves to create something we'll end up being happy with.
Many years ago I thought about doing photography professionally. But, the pressure of operating a business took all the fun out of it for me. So, I decided to just do photography as a hobby and I've enjoyed it ever since. I don't try to get the perfect shot. Just being outdoors and doing photography is enough for me. Feel better.
Same here I almost started a video recording business to record peoples memoirs but then the pandemic hit and I just started photography as a hobby and enjoy it very much!
@@giuliano8031 friend of mine does 10k for a single wedding documentary, surely you gotta invest aswell but he can chill half the year. it´s a lot of work tho in the other half ^^
Just saw one of your videos for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I am hooked. While I rarely do landscape photography, I can't help but being immersed in every second of your videos. The blend of photography and humor is a welcome formula that is missing from most of the real photographers (not youtubers). Wish you posted more frequently, but it's worth the wait for your next video. Even though I am at least 40 years older than you, I enjoy watching a really pretty girl who is also a photographer. Keep the videos coming.
Your channel has me hooked! I love your mix of creative photos, Intimate landscapes and, very entertaining and humorous video work. And all while feeling under the weather, wow! Thanks for the video.
I'm subscribed now. You're right. Photography, the true joy of it, is in the process. It's the journey, not the destination. Thank you. You've cleared up something I've been struggling with for decades.
Thank you for sharing your self doubts and tribulations and making clear again that we should enjoy the process of photography. Sometimes we need to be reminded of that. I enjoy your videos with all your thoughts, humor and beautiful images. Love the warm colors at the end.
Love this video. The idea that days we don't get that 'perfect' photograph, are learning days is a wonderful way of looking at it! I'm sorry you've been feeling down, but know that your video made me smile 🤗
The perfect shot is subjective 🙏 What I personally view as a perfect shot will be different to the next photographer and so on. Also comes down to your mindset and the outdoor elements of the shoot, plus a stroke of luck in some cases. Subscribed and Enjoy your work 🙏 Keep it up 👍

Hi Courtney! Useful perspectives you share with us! Everybody can identify themselves in your situation you are showing. That’s great because I recognize similar situations quite often. Sound tip (from a sound guy) - when it's really windy out put the microphone inside your coat. Yes, some frequency response is lost, but, the wind noise will be gone. I've done this a ton of times in Hollywood when I worked as a sound guy. :)
Thank you for this tip! I'll try and remember that. I admit sound is the part of creating video content that I lack knowledge in and do struggle with it sometimes. I appreciate you sharing your expertise!
@@CourtneyVictoria from a big picture point of view, your videos are great and your sound quality is really good. The high wind thing is something we all struggle with (as pro sound mixers) when doing outside video shoots sometimes. When really windy, leave the wind muff on, and put the lav in the shirt or coat and you are good to go most of time. I sent your latest video to my 13 yr old great niece who is learning photography. I think we have at one time, or another not taken the shot because of our need for "perfection". Letting go of that desire is very hard for me. Thank you, this video helps,💓
Just loved the stick breaking episode. You are completely on my wavelength ‘perfection’ is just chasing a dream. Enjoy the whole process I say, being outdoors, taking record shots for future visits, and yes occasionally that super shot that exceeds our expectations! Too often we measure our photography against the portfolio shots taken by professionals that have been expertly edited. We need to just enjoy ‘our’ photography.
This is the first video of yours I've ever seen Courtney and I've enjoyed it, well done and beautifully presented, thank you. Hope you're feeling much better.
Very cogent sentiments eloquently expressed; I never understand why so many photographers place such a burden on themselves and only diminish the experience 🙂👍
@@distomos8118 That's a fair appraisal. My photography started in 1979; in those days there were very limited opportunities to share work. So it remained a personal exploration. Depsite sharing widely these days, I'm fortunate to be able to retain a persepctive on how and why I make images. Implicit pressure to share and gain recognition in the digital age must cause so much frustration to creative people finding their way and developing under the glare of public spotlight. 😊👍
@@DGriffGallery I guess you’re taking this personal, but I wasn’t referring to you, in case you got the impression, it was meant to be a general statement.
I understand the struggle and frustration. We tend to always want that perfect shot, Patience plays a big part in that but I too have learned that we can not always have it our way, Mother Nature is in control here. The most disappointing part of it is when you are on holiday and have a Very limited time at a location and you don't get the conditions you counted on according to what everyone else puts up online. When it doesn't pan out I always cry "Why Me?" When in fact I need to let go and like you said take what comes. It's an opportunity to get a different composition and a unique image of what we typically envision. I'm a true believer of "things happen for a reason"... something I painfully have to remind myself especially when it comes to photography. Great video and message Courtney. btw, your cows over there are so cute.
Ooh yes there's that added bit of pressure there when you've made the effort to travel far for a photo opportunity. It's not easy to let that go but it's making sure it doesn't affect the enjoyment of exploring and creating. Amazing images can come from unexpected conditions and unique perspectives. This photography lark is quite a journey eh 😂
@@CourtneyVictoria It is, it Really is 😂 and yes, truly enjoying where you're at regardless of the conditions is very important, it tends to open up new possibilities.
Just found your channel, great photographs, really like the woodland ones, I always find them very difficult, I went to shoot a castle on sat, couldnt see it for mist, and If I was looking for mist there wouldnt be any, Its just trial and loads of error, subscribed.
Well, I wasn't expecting that! I hardly ever subscribe to channels. What a beautifully made video. Love the photos. You're really funny, engaging and therefore I had to subscribe just so I can watch more. I applaud you.
Got here from a recommendation on VERO, and I’m so glad I did! I look forward to learning more from you. This idea of letting go of perfection is what I’ve needed. Thank you!
Thank you Tim! From the comments and messages I've received so far it seems as though this is a common concept many of us struggle with. It's great to be able to discuss it with other photographers.
So refreshing to see your take on photography Courtney . The ups the downs , the wins the losses. I thing its all part of the game. its not a science and what is appealing to one is not to another . We are all different but that's what makes it interesting . PS Your funny too !! :-)
Ever since i started following you, I've noticed that you are too harsh on yourself, photography should be fun, even when failing just enjoy the moments and learn. I've recently tried to go on a "kingfishers hunt" and everything went wrong! I left work that day late, the bus to the place I wanted was late, and by the time I arrived there was less light. I did find few kingfishers, but not the one I wanted, the common kingfisher! While I was strolling around and decided to put the camera in my backpack since no light left, when I just was about to do that I saw a kingfisher sitting in front of me right there! Took a photo, dim one... When I edited it later, I realized it was pretty ok photo and it indeed was the common kingfisher!
Thanks for sharing Victoria as I just love your work...As a hobbyist I just like taking pics of whatever interests me when I am out & about...yes we can all strive for perfection but what is perfect for some may not be perfect for others...your pics of the cattle are really great & capture their mood...I think they are saying 'what a wonderful world "... cheers from Australia 😀❤️❤️
Me too, I always try to capture that Ideal Photo in my mind in the Location that I've been to, always aiming to get the perfect shot but get frustrated sometimes when I didn't. Then one day, I just accepted that I'm missing out on what was already in front of me and that's when I stopped taking perfect shots. Thank you for this Courtney😊♥ and also thank you RUclips for recommending this♥♥
Courtney, unlike many, you have a great “photographic eye”. You seem to have a natural intelligence for framing a great shot. Your photos displayed on your You Tube videos are really really good. Surfers try to find the perfect wave, photographers try to take the perfect shot; it is all part of the “deal”. We do these things not because they are easy but because they are hard and set us above the average flow of humanity. These kind of things make us, us. You are doing a great job!! Keep up the good work. Cheers
Right so. (when I am out on photography, my main concern is to create a bit while relaxing) - but a little bit of "gardening" - throw away branches - is never wrong...
Perfectionism can ruin not only your photography, but also your life. Real life is never perfect. I used to worry about getting the "right shot" back in the pre-digital days because of the cost of prints. Now I just keep taking shots and toss all but one of them. Keep at it. You are really good and you have a great area for photos. By the way, after seeing this, I subscribed to your channel.
The wonderful thing about digital photography is that a mistake won't really cost you anything. It's easy to delete and try again. I used to really enjoy shooting film though. Makes you think a little more about what you're capturing so you don't waste shots. Thank you for watching Karl!
This video came up in my suggestions and it's exactly the message I needed. I did a climbing trip a couple weeks ago and sure enough I managed to forget to put the damn battery in my Fuji. It was a beautiful camp and climb with dramatic skies and I was so choked knowing I was stuck with my phone for pictures. Barely gave the pics a second look, but I just took my perfectionist goggles off for a minute and looked back on the shots. Sure enough there's some ones in there I'm pretty happy with, and more than enough to feel like I'm there again despite being on a potato phone. Keep up the good work and look forward to more!
Sometimes it's best to stop trying and just live life. People always seem to never be sure who they are , yet certain of who they are not !!!. My point is simple we are living in a state of flux ,change is inevitable. Someone told me that our character is best defined by" who we are when no one is looking." Definitely the way to understand yourself is to be yourself. To become a butterfly I found I had to stop being a grub. Life is for the living. I love art in all its forms. I was told art art school that photography was not an art form. Now they teach it at university as one of the Arts. To be honest the best thing I could say , is just think about what you are doing (a little meditation after on what happened in your day) . This works for me , to try to see myself as others see me only makes me wonder what was going on in their head. So don't confuse your life with someone else's. Most book writing requires editing . So live your own fairy tale because no one else can . They just like to think they can 😊
First time watcher and I just love the humour. I really felt for you when you found the felled tree - I went back to my favourite covered bridge in spring only to see it being repaired. All the nice old wood was being replaced by shiny new panels. Eugh.
Great message about winning and learning Courtney, for a long time it held me back thinking I was not good enough, 4:49 I am sure this cow looked at the camera and nodded in agreement 😂

Very cogent sentiments eloquently expressed; I never understand why so many photographers place such a burden on themselves and only diminish the experience 🙂👍
I presume it’s because many fear the critics as they photograph for an audience and not for pleasure.
Thank you so much for this! This is exactly what I needed to hear!!! 🙂
Congratulations on the tremendous growth of your channel Courtney! Very well deserved! Loved the Highland Cow shots, such beautiful beasts!
Loving your style on Vlogging, very refreshing Courtney!
omg! I so needed to here this 😁
A wonderful video and beautiful outlook. I even enjoyed the dancing. Thank you.
Cute little entertaining video and funny too! Hope you feel better soon!
I am so happy youtube recommend your channel. This is the first video I have watched and I loved it. Subscribed.
Cheers
Thank you Brian. I agree it's not always easy but there is so much to gain by doing things that inspire us.
Well done! Love the humor 🍻
They just like to think they can 😊
COW! 🐮!! 😅
Love your humour! Simple but classic , lovely images too👌
Great photos Courtney, that little boat shed at the beginning was awesome. :)
First time watcher and I just love the humour. I really felt for you when you found the felled tree - I went back to my favourite covered bridge in spring only to see it being repaired. All the nice old wood was being replaced by shiny new panels. Eugh.
I enjoyed your approach and insight, and also the playful interludes. Great video.
I love the little titles you add to your photos
Great message about winning and learning Courtney, for a long time it held me back thinking I was not good enough, 4:49 I am sure this cow looked at the camera and nodded in agreement 😂
the important is to try.. your stories are lovely!!
"The joy of photography for me comes from the process of creating and the exploration of location ".... spoken like a true artist. I have been photographing for decades and your words have reminded me of what this is really all about again., and as a bonus your wit and jigging abilities make me laugh , thank you .
