Thank you for watching! To claify the wonky waterfall confusion, I did use the D850's virtual horizon but the odd angle of the fall was still throwing me off on screen 😂 the more I stared, the wonkier it seemed! 😄

    • @AndyBanner

I know what you mean... Many years ago, when I was in magazines, one of our production heads commented on an image and said "That's wonky, straighten it." He was told that it's perfectly level to which he replied "Well, wonky it up until it looks straight". It can be difficult sometimes with images that have no obvious "level levels" to know what's correct and what isn't and the simplest thing, I find, is to do what feels right through the viewfinder (not the LCD) as you are not impacted by peripheral vision.
      Very pleasant watch. thanks

I just saw a girl full of passion, creativity and great photographic sense. Thank you so much Courtney for showing me such beautiful passion and enthusiasm.
It doesn't matter if your images are loved by a lot of people, what matters is how you enjoy the entire journey and how you approach it to get what you want & make yourself happy. I love your images of course but love your brilliant photographic eye and a massive passion for photography far more.
Once again, thank you so much.

I am watching a lot of YT videos on photography, but got to admit your episodes are the most joyful experiences. Your open, candid and humble style is not only inspiring me to take my gear and get out into the woods, but also quite intimately sharing your mental and physical journey that is pretty rare here. Thank you.

I have been photographing as a hobby since 1968 and am now learning things I've not had or taken time to study regarding my pastime. Your teaching style is clear, understandale, and seasoned with your enthusiasm, humour, and sincerity. Long may you teach. At age 74, I am an avid student. I wish you well.

For getting level on my camera I have a little cheap spirit level that slides into the hot shoe. You can take it out and rest on top if shooting portrait or buy a dual version. I see below Nikon has the "virtual horizon" but it's worth having in the bottom of your bag for the odd situation.

Courtney, I enjoy your material and wanted to tell you. The correct words weren’t coming until I watched “The Photographic Eye” and Alex showcased your channel. He mentioned how you embrace the chaos! I am trying to emulate your “blankly staring” to improve my photographs. As for dancing, last week I nailed an Aurora shot and did do a little happy dance. Thankfully it was in the dark because I’m not ready to match our moves!

Again, a great video. Washing the feet was almost as entertaining the dancing!
As always, i love to see your mind working.....it always challenges what i see. The fallen tree was really great.....perhaps a high contrast black and white would suit it as well? I think its great that two people could visit the same place at the same time and produce such different concepts, both of which could be equally valid and impressive. It just shows its worth spending those extra minutes (hours?) contemplating.

Your point about 'wonky' horizons is interesting. So many landscape/scenic pictures on social media have dodgy horizons and it really infuriates me, particularly on seascapes. Our brain does have an inherent spirit level that detects whether it is right or not. However even without a genuine horizontal component we have a sense of whether something looks correct - or perhaps I should say pleasing. So I think this then becomes a compositional decision and your second picture illustrates this, I often find myself rotating a crop in post entirely on this decision, does it look good? Thanks for some lovely pictures and insight into your process.

Great location. Super images. Must admit you had me worried for a second when you took the vertical image of the waterfall and said you hoped you wouldn't have an accident, for a minute I thought you were going to lie on your tummy overhanging the fall and take the shot. That would have been dicey. The last image, I thought it looked like it was trying to run away. Really enjoy your video's. Love your sense of humour.
