I did not see any point on changing gear either. Until I started to concentrate more in wildlife/bird photography. Suddenly my DSLR lacked the ISO flexibility and the focus capability. But you are right! For landscape photography almost any DSLR paired with a good lens, is more than sufficient and, no-one can see the difference unless "pixel peeping".
    Love your channel!!!

    • @Strange-Viking
      @Strange-Viking Месяц назад

Pixel peeping.. yeah so even if your photo is shot, when its shot on a low mp cam in quite bad conditions making it a below average foto well terms like average/good ets in the end depends on they eye of the beholder. If it needs to be a clean looking foto pixel peeping isnt needed. Only if you want to print out a high quality photo, a big one at it only then it starts to become important. In the end it really depends on so many things. Where will a photo be palced, internet for ph users or for web users, a online gallery or for sales. A competition or display in a museum? A Museum being a good example, highest quality ww2 photos are waaaay below todays potato phones.
      Everything matters, yet nothing matters.
A perfect example: last month my mom did her 1st display. (came as a surprise to me) She even hit the local and regional newspapers. Her photos looked amazing but not in the way most people think.
The thing is she knows what, and where to take fotos of. A keen eye on lighting. All shot from a smartphone with a little lens attached to it. Looking up close to the photos placed in the gallery the pixels looked in some cases 3-5mm squares. And in most cases the noise was so bad it was eye hurting. (she didnt do any after processing neither)
But standing a meter away in most cases that was hardly noticeable. (and about everyone there did exactly just that).
Simply the fact of doing it made her hit various newspapers, her motto during the display was "everything depends on how you look at things, just do it".

Timing, lighting - Yes and also Composition. TLC - which I learnt on a Joe Cornish workshop. A lovely set of images in that set, particularly like the fungus close ups. Like you I love my D750 & 24-120, I occasionally use my camera set up side down on the column and being old I then find it really difficult to work with the settings, I admire your dexterity. Thanks for the video.

So glad I found your channel! This is the type of photography I like to do as well. I also like finding lakes and mountains with great views where I can. Now I’m trying to figure out what I will shoot in the winter. We don’t get much snow here so I know I will find it hard to be inspired in the cold months. Your videos remind me a lot of Simon Booth and his videos. Thanks for the videos! You do a great job!

Quite elegant. You have sharp eyes and beautiful thoughts which, so often, translate into beautiful art.
Another valuable lesson that you have demonstrated is this:
An Artist (such as you truly are) can amplify Life for the rest of us with whatever tools present/available in your consciousness and at hand. Therefore it is a tremendous strength that you use the instruments available and familiar to you.
Said from a similar perspective, what you accomplish with the D750 and your lenses is a valuable and needed lesson for us all.
    Auf Wiedersehen, Fräulein!
    Salomè.
Mögest Du in das Licht, der Wahrheit, und dem SEIN der Schöpfung leben.

I agree with your choice of gear. Up until about five years ago I was obsessed with updating my gear for what ever projects were to come my way but have since did a reality check and decided to go back to DSLR and all the old F mount lenses I've acquired since the late 70s. Not only is it more cost effective but also Still viable in any situation and perceived quality. Once I concluded that my photography is for "me" and not trying to impress anyone else, my outlook on gear shifted to what works for me, what feels right and for my photography. My images are the same with old gear as with new modern tech.
Right now I am shooting with a D850, a 5D mark II (yes I know but it's for variety), and a Z5. That Z5 will be replaced with a D750 soon as an EDC to be honest because I just don't Gell with the Z5 like I do with the DSLRs... oh and that 24-120 lens is one of my go-to lenses for so many things, my nature kit also includes the 20mm f1.8G (such a great lens) and the 60mm f2.8D micro.... who needs the latest and greatest, right?!
Looking at your mushroom work makes me wish we had a climate to produce them regularly on an annual basis. I like the idea of including a mini LED light in your bag, something I should get for mine.

In the video 6.37 you passed a big tree.
If you have a look hopefully you will see what i saw, which was too the right of the tree it looked like a snake head with two arms reaching out and at the bottom some sort of animal with two horns looking up.
Let me know if you saw it.
    Possibly a image for you.

Looks like Mushroom Land. I've never seen so many in one place. You are right not to feel pressured to buy the latest and greatest. Gear just has to be good enough to get the results that you want. Lately I've been trying to downsize my gear. Not the amount of gear, but the size and weight. I'm anxiously awaiting a deliver from MPB tomorrow. Nice shot of the gnarly tree.

HI! Great Video. Thanks! I never regreted not upgrading from the d850.... only video, which I dont really need as an photographer, is not up to par with the more modern cameras, but all the colors, the lowlight, the mp count ...evreything up there with the bunch of them.... so an upgrade is not important for me... Got the 20, 35, 50, 85 f1.8 nikons, the tokina 100mm 2.8 makro, nikons 135 f2 DC, and the 180mm f2.8, for zoom the 14-24,24-70,70-200 all f2.8 and the 200-500 f5.6... I love everything about this system... Concerts, product, portrait, sports (with additional support of the D500) landscape architecture street... there's nothing I feel not prepared for or coudnt handle.... Used Fuji XT, loved it too, tried Olypus OM1 M1, had a go with PhaseOneXF+IQ4 for a portrait studio shoot (great !) use alpha 7s3 for video if needed... I'm a fanboy of ALL cameras!! But like Nikon for the ease of use, menu, button layout, colors lowlight, AF..... And the possibillity of getting really good lenses on the used market

I've got to hand it to you, Courtney - a few days after your last video, I found myself scouting out a rather un-photogenic rainforest trail and, not finding anything with much promise, decided to follow your example and start trying to notice fungi along the path. To my surprise, I started seeing them all over; mainly the tiny isolated ones similar to those you've featured in your last couple of videos. It was enough to bring me back the next day with my full gear, and I was able to get a few "keeper" images. Without your example, I never would have thought of looking for them.

Hello Courtney. I wanted to reach out with a comment and a couple of questions. Firstly, you are quite the pretty lass. You have a fantastic and fun screen presence. This is stated without being creepy (I hope). The first question is what is the LED light you are using? The other question is regarding "stacking". Years ago, I purchased a program that would stack photos that were shot in a group. This required multiple focusing of the object to be stacked. Is this what you are doing? Keep up the great videos and making the awesome photos. Cheers from the Great State of Texas, USA.

The first few images I took with my D850 were terrible and it forced me to iron out a few lazy habits I had developed when shooting.

I'm slowly getting used to the extra settings the 750 has compared to the 3500, and the way some of the settings on the 750 are accessed in different places to what I'm used to. The thing that's taking the longest to get comfortable with is the weight difference between my old crop sensor gear and the new full frame gear.@@CourtneyVictoria

Courtney I absolutely love your videos! You're witty and humorous remarks always bring a smile on my face! I'm currently shooting with Sony. I upgraded at the end of last year from my A7R3 to an A7R5! I shoot about 75% landscape and 25% wildlife and birds! So I have a Sony A9 When I need extreme speed! Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see your next video!

Great video, only down side is MPB the sponsor. I have used them twice and each time not a very good experience at all.
The last occasion I part ex a lens for use one on the mpb web site only to find it had an error code when I tested it. After some reading of reviews I read this was a common issue with mpb not fully testing the gear, if at all, or the description was incorrect from the actual conditions.
Also my part ex lens was knocked down on its value once they received claiming it had a scratch on the rear element.
When The deal fell through and I asked for my lens back I had to pay FULL retail price for it from mpb, and when I did get it back I could not find any scratch.
I used a macro lens and 45mp camera to hunt for said scratch, and strangly enough I did not find any scratch ! !
Problem when a deal with mpb goes south for the consumer it cost the customer in the pocket !
All mpb offered me was a £10 discount voucher off a £100 spend as their idea of compensation ! !

Im in. My D750 is staying with me for a long while. I thought the LED light was a little cooler than the natural light. I think I preferred the warmer image. Loved the limbo dance unded the tree trunk.

Another great video from you. Love mushroom photography! The first, with and without LED light, I think the one with is my favourite one. As when it comes to the one in the tree trunk... I always bring a reflector and a diffusor with me

That mushroom poking out of the hole in that tree was wonderful! Well spotted! I do agree with you about having, or not, as the case may be, the latest and greatest gear. I personally use a 13 year old camera that I picked up for £150! Granted when it was new, it was a £1250 camera, but it suits my needs and I can operate it with my eyes shut!
