- I knocked off work early and drove south checking out the clouds along the way. The clouds were thin and high, which can often mean good light and colour for some sunset landscape photography.

I usually head to Sugarloaf Rock this time of the year, but this time I thought I’d leave it for the crowds and explore the beach just north of the popular tourist sight.
On previous occasions, the wind has been howling at this location, but the conditions weren’t bad. With the promise of some awesome colour, I was keen to get down to the beach to find some interest for my foreground.
The first thing I noticed was the water was breaking a fair distance off the shore and there were plenty of rocks in between. The challenge was to find a simple rock or pool scene amongst the rocks that would catch your interest.

If anyone has an issue about imperfections in your video, they need to take a look at themselves. What you provide in terms of great images and educational content as well as narratives on your trips is the main thing to take away from your videos Andrew. Today was no different, loved the images and always enjoy seeing them in their raw state and then the final image as its testament to your skill as a photographer to see them in their final state
Same same 👏
Thanks for that Jimmy! I'm very grateful for your kind words. I know you are a great supporter not just for what I do, but I see you comments on many other photographers' channels and it means a lot to me as I'm sure it does for them. Thank you so much 🙏
Thanks also to Lykz! 😀
What a brilliant video mate. This is a great example of a good old fashioned Andrew Marr video . .out on location, wind blowing, waves crashing. The images are simply gorgeous as well. Loved every minute of it Andrew. Take care mate.
Cheers Richard, haha old-schoool photography adventures. I think I do pick up on the energy of these scene, they can be vey dynamic. Thanks for your support mate! 👍
Stunning pano Andrew. Good to see the Z7 in use again, a great camera. Love your work, always feel we’re there with you 👏
Lovely pictures indeed.
Gorgeous images! Yes, you made the most of the beautiful light for sure!
What a great way to end the day. Love the images especially in your last spot. I always hang around well into blue hour too often shooting to the east to get the earth shadow.
Video quality is just fine Andrew, it’s the photography I am really here for.
And yes, some of the best light comes long after the sun is over the horizon.
It all depends on those clouds. Thanks for sharing again Andrew.
Stay safe 🇦🇺
Cheers John for you support mate. I think your right it's all about make the most of the light and sometimes that means you jsut have to stay a little longer. 👍
Beautiful colors and composition!!
Great vlog mate, love the shots into blue hour, I too enjoy that but it can be difficult to vlog, your video looked great though! 👍 The composition at the first spot was masterfully done, the final image was so nicely composed, all wonderful shots.
Andrew - both compositions were gorgeous. The pano from the first composition was especially beautiful. Makes me wanna drive across the Nullarbor for a look-see! Take care, mate. 👍
Cheers Peter, you're a bit like me, a sucker for a pano, haha! When the borders lift you should come over, we can go out for a shoot. 👍
@@Andrew_marr That’d be lovely. 👍
Great video Andrew, always enjoy your content but the images in this one pushed it up a notch, great stuff. Never had an issue with your filming quality, can't imagine anyone else having one either. Cheers
Much appreciated Andrew,
Thank you, been looking at 4 walls for the last 18 mths, haven't been out except for medical appointments, gradually walking a little once a week
Chasing birds for miles isn't an option any more, but coastal landscape should be an option, your excellent tuition has given this old timer (77), a second option, which should be doable, albeit slowly, In the meantime I have got myself an S6 holder for the 14-24 and a Nisi 6 and a 10 stop, that is about all for the budget right now, bracketing may be my option
Regards,
............... Gary

Hey Andrew,
nice shots! Cheers from the South Coast 🐧
Cheers Rod, thanks for leaving a comment mate!
Andrew, your videos are so informative and motivational. The images are brilliant. I have never noticed the minor issues with the video you mentioned. I really enjoy and appreciate your style and approach. Thank you.
Thanks David, that's the aim a mixture of information and motivation. They're the videos I like watching as well as making. I appreciate your support mate, thank you! 👍
I am here again 🤗 it just a comment before watching i will back after enjoy this video ☺️
Thanks for the support Man, I appreciate you watching!
great shots mate, its a wonder i didnt see you down there , 10 mins from my house , love that area
Thanks for that Craig! You live only 10 minutes from that location? It's a gorgeous area, so much to shoot, I'd be down there all the time.
It would be cool to see some photos of the blue hr he takes
Hello my friend again i watched entire video and Focus on every second i think you are one of the best photographers i ever witness with selection of location and conditions and post processing it is another piece of gold added to your group i am glad to know you and wish i can learn from you much more
Hey Maen, thanks so much for checking out the video. I'm glad to hear it was helpful. It's always great getting your comments, thank you!
Nice shots mate. Heading out to the pinnacles next weekend to shoot the arising milky way!!
Cheers mate, love the Pinnacles especially with the Milkyway as a background. Hope you have a great trip!
I have no problem with the blurry to-camera bits! I really liked the wider first location shot. Hope the trip goes well.
Haha, cheers Brian, I don't think most people do, luckily! Honestly, it's enough juggling all the other bits, so I'm greatful for your comment mate! 👍
Lovely work. I do lament not living close to any coast like this. The nearest one is a three hour drive away (the coast of Lake Superior) .
Thanks Paul, I wish I lived closer to mountains and forests. I'm lucky to be only 15 minutes away from my local beach which has a few rocks, but it's becoming very popular and is often crowded, so I don't go down there much anymore. In this video, I drove 3 hours south to get to a beach that was quiet and had interesting features. When I was recording the drone footage, I notice some other spots in that same area so it's worth staying for a couple of days to get the most out of the trip. I've just checked out some images from Lake Superior, it looks like a spectacular location.
Whoever is complaining about out of focus and high ISO noisey video would HATE watching my videos, as I vlog in complete darkness mostly as an Astro Photographer. Hahaha.
Lovely spot & lovely comp, but not sure the grad filter works here. The top of the rocks are very dark.
Cheers Andy, good pick up mate. I tried a soft GND and it was working. The issue was inbetween the two rocks was the brightest part of the scene and I was addressing that. If I'm honest, I probably was a little lazy and if I was to shoot it again, I'd shoot a second shot with the filter removed and blend the two to add detail back into those rocks.
Gorgeous images, Andrew .Your videos are really informative.
Was just wondering whether you Expose to the Right on the field ..the histogram of the first shot suggested otherwise …
Cheers Asimesh! Yeah, I do exposure to the right as a general rule, but stop down sometimes for a few different reasons. I do tend to unexposed my shots, to add a little mood. Also, I was keeping an eye on the sun as it was in and out of the cloud and I wanted to ensure I had detail in the brightest parts of the clouds. I was also compensating for the brightness of the waves when they come crashing through the scene.
It was definitely moody ! Thank you for your perspective on the field .
Love your content as always ,, keep it coming !
No need to apologize Andrew for anything, just really enjoy your videos. Those 2 images you captured were amazing, one thing I noticed was the histogram was more to the underexposed side, was this the case or not.? Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for that Ross, it's great to have your ongoing support mate, cheers. Yeah, I do tend to unexposed my shots, to add a little mood. Also, I was keeping an eye on the sun as it was in and out of the cloud and I also compensating for the brightness of the waves when they come crashing through the scene. I might cover this in more detail in another video. 😀
@@Andrew_marr thanks for that info Andrew, that really helps as I do a lot of seascapes myself 👏👏
I much enjoy BTS night video. Do the best you can but don't obsess. It's the content that's important. Thanks.
Cheers for that Mike. As you can imagine, there's so much going on as the sun is setting. I don't really want to worry too much about the video camera. I try to set it up so I can hit record and forget about it and focus more on the photography, sharing the story, and providing informative content. So it's good to get comments like yours that are very supportive, thanks!
