Then we got our defensive picks in the middle rounds. We are set for the immediate future with Cousins, and we should also have our future set for the next decade. Penix will sit behind cousins for a couple years. Also, with our team as a whole and especially with Cousins as our QB, we shouldn't be anywhere near a top 10 pick in the next couple years. ATL's GM said they took Penix at because they believe they won't be picking that high again due to signing Kirk. What he didn't say is, "we also don't believe one more weapon is going to turn Kirk into a Superbowl winning QB." They expect to be better, but understand they have a ceiling with Kirk. Which is why they're already looking towards the future after Kirk. They just need him to help the team win enough games to where they don't get fired before Penix can take over two years from now. Could they have done that with a cheaper QB? Sure, but if they don't get the guy they want in the draft, then they're in for another year of picking high in the draft with probably a worse QB class next year.

    I like Penix a lot, I was a huge Washington fan last season but his injuries are a red flag. If he takes one more bad hit to his legs he’s done. I’m not sure what ATLS major gaps on roster are but I feel like it definitely wasn’t the QB position

    Penix was QB3 if Washington didn’t draft Jayden Daniels. Penix situation is the best. He’s a good dude and will get a couple of years learning from a seasoned QB. His 3rd year he can hit the ground running as a starter towards the 2nd contract jackpot. The other QBs are being forced to start and carry junk organizations.

    I'm so glad pennix went before he went to the raiders. I love Minshew and every time he gets to be on a team, there is always some super high draft pick on the team ahead of him. He's on jaxsonville but they draft trevor larwence, he gets hurt and minshew plays great, then he gets traded to Philly and they already have Jalen hurts so he gets no chance to play, then he goes to Indy and they draft anthony richardson so he would never have played but richardson got hurt last year and in comes minshew and he plays fantastic and came within a few downs of making the playoffs. Then he goes to the Raiders and finally his team does not have some super high drafted qb so he will finally get a chance to start from day one. ( I have to confess, I'm a cougar fan) and I wish him the best. Watching him play most of his completions are short passes and he does throw too many picks but he's a real leader out there but I think people have always underestimated him.

    My only real question if they wanted to have a QB on the bench and eventually take over for Kirk, why did they not take the 21 year old JJ McCarthy?

    • @briannettles669
      @briannettles669 23 дня назад

      Yes, that makes sense. Quarterbacks tend to peak ability-wise between ages 25-29. Granted, there can be some exceptions and quarterback's numbers can fluctuate based on the health of the quarterback and the quality of teammates around him. Still, typically, those years are the peak of the quarterback's ability. Sitting Penix for several years completely wastes two to three prime years of Penix's career. Just imagine the Chiefs sitting Patrick Mahomes on the bench until he turned 27. Everything he has accomplished in the NFL never would have happened because he was on the bench, not playing. If you draft McCarty at age 21 and sit him for three seasons, he is 24 when he is a starter and he just entering the prime of his career. You do not waste any peak JJ McCarthy seasons on the bench.

    It was reported that the Raiders, Saints, and one other team tried to trade up into the top 10, which would have actually been the top 7, to take Penix, so he might not have been there if they traded back to 10. The Jets would also have to be willing to move up to 8 for a trade to happen.

    To counter that the Falcons should have traded back to 10, the Falcons KNEW several (4) teams were after Penix. There would be the chance of Chicago trading back 2 spots and leaving the door open for Penix to go to another team if they could pull off a trade with CHI.

    The Giants messed up. They could have gotten Justin Fields for a just a 6th round pick. If Daniel Jones stinks it up this year or gets injured (he is injury prone), you have probably the best backup QB in the league in Fields ready to go. And if Fields balls out, you might actually find out you have have someone who's better than Jones and could end up being your QB of the future. But instead they get a washed up Drew Locke? Come on, man. 🤔 smh

He’s drafted as Cousins’ permanent backup until Cousins leaves/retires…just sucks for him

As if f***ing up their own draft isn't bad enough, they had to screw the Raiders as well, not to mention the career of a 24 year old who won't likely see the field until he's 27. It was such a stupid pick, the Raiders didn't even trade up because they couldn't believe Atlanta could be that stupid.

    Cost cap isn't much of a worry anymore. Everyone's complaining about the $100 million for Kirk, but the cost cap is becoming less and less of a concern. It literally increased another $30 million this year and it will continue to do so. They have the quarterback position on lock for the next 10+ years if penix is who they thought they were. And the first two years go to cousins. I think its a great pick.
    And to people saying they should have got an Edge, first of all there's no guarantee that he is a hit. Second of all, an edge is not gonna take a team to the next level, it just won't. Thirdly, they drafted another five defensive players throughout the rest of the draft.
