Rodgers statistically at the end of his time with McCarthy to his first year with Lafleur had declined even though they went 13-3 and got blown out by the 49ers in the NFC Championship in Lafleurs first year so the writing was on the wall maybe they should look at a future secession plan. The Packers never thought he was gonna win another 2 MVPs after they drafted Jordan. After the 2 MVPs though he had arguably his worst year since he was a first year starter so it made it easy to justify trading him.

They didn't know Pennix would be on the board. You could've not signed Kirk, waited til the draft and ended up with nothing.

@carbon.the.christ5626 If you wanted Penix, then you trade up to get him. Sitting around and pray that a team doesn't get your player is how you lose in the draft. Chiefs did it with Mahomes, Bears did it with Tribusky. We understand Tribusky didn't work out, but Mahomes did.

Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love each sat for three years. Mahomes sat for one year. Cousins can start for three years while Penix learns. They can trade Cousins heading into year four and start Penix, depending on how far they go into Super Bowl contention. If Penix shows promise, the Falcons can pick up Penix's fifth-year option and work on his massive second contract.

To Achos blackjack analogy, the Falcons had 17 and still hit when the dealer was showing a 3. You either have the 17 with Kirk after paying him 100 mill guaranteed and still choose to hit when the dealer is showing 3 (Penix).
