I've just purchased a Yi 4K+ action camera and your video is most helpful in seeing the difference in the Image Stabilization and quality of sound. Thanks and well done a big thumbs up.
- Yi has more detail in the shadows at 2:57 - bitrate is not high enough, when there is a lot of motion and many textures, the image on all cameras is pretty pixelated
Thank you so much. I've been waiting for someone to test the microphones and you have just answered all of my questions with a great review. Wunderbar & danke schön!
If there is no budget limit, it's YI 4K+ vs GoPro Hero5 black. Then it depends on the situations you plan to use it: Pro YI 4K+: Image stabilisation in 4K, Slow Motion in 4K (60fps). Pro GoPro Hero5 black: Waterproof without case, GPS Recording. These are the main differences. Here's a Spec comparison for the other details: elproducente.com/best-action-camera-2016-gopro-hero5-black-vs-yi-4k-vs-sj7/
GP5 seems to be sharper, looking at the trees on the side. I would not consider the waterproofing to be as effective as a separate case when snorkeling / diving some meters below the surface. One grain of sand would cause a salt water leak inside the camera. A small leak inside a waterproof housing may not end inside the camera, and anti fog inserts may absorb the water. But great to have waterproofing for rainy days, snow etc.
I would also use a waterproof case for snorkelling and diving. As you said it's very convenient in rainy days. Helped a lot on my Iceland trip: elproducente.com/videos-gopro-hero5-vs-yi-4k-action-camera-hands-on-experience/
Quick disclaimer, the Yi4k also has the "wind" mode, released in the last firmware versions. Doesn't do miracles but helps a bit! Too bad that Xiaomi didn't solve the issue of bad audio in their latest Yi4k+. That's not the way to go if you want to beat GoPro. I have my Yi4k and for the price (180€) it was great, besides audio not much to complain!
Recently had to return an SJ7 due to horrible sound (it was like only low pass!). Could not decide what to choose from GP5 & Yi 4K. Can u pl. help me with your experience with Yi 4k? Which mode gives more clarity : Stereo or Wind? And did not you find the level a bit low & like high pass & low cut?
That was a worthwhile comparison, thanks for doing it. I'm kind of sold on the YI 4K+ but I need an analog (PAL) video out. Is there such a cable, ideally a right angle cable so it doesn't stick out too much, that does this?
Hello, great video. Can you tell me which settings are you recommending on yi 4k+ for lowlight? My lowlight videos are grainy. What settings are you using and why (specially metering mode, shutter speed, wb, iso, color) Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback. Action Cams don't perform well in low light in general due to their small sensors. To get the best out of it keep the frame rate and shutter low. The higher you push ISO, the brighter the image, but also more grainy - depends on your current situation. You should be fine with auto WB, I guess there will be artificial light so set to fluorescent light. In terms of color you got two options: YI Color - choose this if you don't edit the footage. Choose Flat if you do color correction while editing the footage.
Have you had any electronic issues with any of your GoPro/Yi cameras so far? Would you recommend the GoPro Hero 5 Black/Yi-4k if I wouldn't be using the stabilization and just using it for the video quality in a very low light situation or is there something better? I've been using 1 canon g7x & 3 sjcam4000's for like 3 years now mounted on a Samson MK-10 boom mic using their frame mount + a 1/4 male to female thread - And most of them still work fine (though one of em may be a fake, idk lol) BUT, one of the SJ4000's gave out on me a week ago.. I think I've narrowed it down to these, but if you know something else that would fit my needs better Please let me know. Cuz if the one I get is way better than my Sjcam's then I might get 2 more in the future to have matching video quality all around. GoPro Hero 5 Black refurbished = $220 Yi Lite = $100 Yi-4K (not 4K+) = $150 from their website/amazon These will be for RUclips drum videos, SO... 1. I don't really need stabilization (unless it will help with #6) 2. I don't need great audio (I get that edited) 3. Great vid quality in 1080p 30fps, 60fps Max (if I feel like it would look cool to use 60fps) 4. Good in "low-light" situations (filming in a pitch black living room without room lights on, using 2 neewer 176 led lights pointed on me & drums) & I have black backdrops on my walls. 5. Adjustable ISO, Exposure, White Balance, etc 6. I've noticed my bass drum does cause the video to shake with my Canon G7X (1st one, not mark 2), but that could just be because it's heavy while attached to my boom stand. 7. Durable (I drop shit sometimes lol) 8. Decent battery life *I do like that the GoPro Hero 5 Black has Linear mode (cuz fish eye looks weird on drums), but didn't know till recently that Yi-4k has basically the same thing called Lens Distortion Correction! **I also use Screenflow 7 (if that makes a difference with those cameras above) Thoughts? 🤔🤔 I'd Love to hear your opinion on this! I'm not a tech gear kinda guy, I'm a drummer lol Thanks in advance! 😊
If it's just for video quality you can go with YI 4K, which is way superior compared to Yi Lite. I also didn't find much difference in video quality compared to GoPro. Hero5 has more features (waterproof without case, GPS, better audio,...) but if you don't need that you can save some money. Wait until there is a special deal on amazon, they are quite frequent. In terms of low light they are all not that good because of their small sensors. Never had electronic issues with neither Hero5 or YI 4K.
hi, can you upload the raw video file of the gopro to some platform? Like mega.co? I want to see if it lags in my video edito like my yi 4k plus videos do. Some 4k 60 fps on highest bitrate would be great. My yi 4k plus videos are totaly useless. I cant edit them because they lag so much in my video editors. Sony vegas, Adobe premiere pro.......Only the freeware editing software called "shotcut" can playback it smoothly. I have an i7 4790, 3,6 ghz, 16gb ram, gtx 980 nvidia graphics card. would be great if you could give me some gopro footge. Im seconds away from selling my yi actioncam because i cant edit the videos
Sounds like your computer is too slow for editing. If you can't edit the video it's most likely not related to the camera and you will suffer this problem with all action cameras. (btw. YI has a higher bitrate compared to GoPro)
You have to put the hero 5 in some sort of case as I doesn't have a threaded tripod mount. The audio on your Hero 5 is miles better than mine, have you drilled holes in it?
Hola, sabes como se hace para ver video en vivo con la YI 4K en mi PC? Quiero ajustar el lente de la camara pero viendolo desde el monitor de la pc. Gracias
Go pro has the best sound stabilization, the image quality was subtle amongst all of them, but by far the go pro was best overall . Thank you. Now I know which to purchase
NEKTARIOS ZOGKOS I did another video where I used 4K 60fps. When editing a video you have to apply one resolution and frame rate for all videos, in this case 4K 30fps, but it showed another weapon: YI 4K+ is the only cam to offer image stabilization in 4K 30fps
Hero 5 has better image quality, stability, and less voice noise . Yi 4k+ unnatural redish color , better image details , better battery life , bad sound . If your buying used camera go with hero 5 , surprisingly cheaper price on ebay then yi. I got one hero 5 for $100, i saw the yi 4k+ they go for $170
Great video!! Can you help me and tell me which camera should i buy?! i cant decide between the yi 4k+ or the gopro hero 5 black and i saw lot of VS movies thanks
Rafi S I'd say it depends on which features you prefer: YI4K+: 4K 60fps & 4K 30fps stabilized, better battery life. Hero5: waterproof without case, GPS, better audio. I think these are the key differences, not sure which suite your activities better.
I thought i will buy the yi 4k+ next, but after seeing this video i'll go for the hero 5... Way better audio, better image and i only record in 1080p which is even stabilised like on the yi 4k+ in this video.
The GoPro videos look more vivid as the saturation is higher. I prefer the more natural color of Yi. For editing I use either GoPro Protune or YI Flat Color
Not optimized but if you take them apart it's how it's encased, quality of mic, n is there more of a wind proof barrier then mic set also when sound testing it's best to have one alone n not two others on the side as a small barrier...you can always try out a diy microphone shield could help as they probably didn't think of an added wind barrier
Hi, thanks for your feedback. During the audio test at the beginning they were placed about 10-15cm apart. So not really a barrier. They were mounted closer for the ride (like shown at the very end)
have you tried fur covering the mic for wind barrier because I noticed the go pro has this sound defining to it and yi doesn't have it at all. in all most cases likely the wind slash outside noise barrier integrated in gopro I don't really care as they all have some points we don't like and im pointed towards yi 4k+ but just want to know if a fur over mic shield helps...if you've tried
I think first it depends on your budget as these cams range from 180 to 399 USD. Secondly on the features you need the most: Image stabilization in 4K, Slow Motion in 4K? -> YI 4K+ Waterproof without case, GPS? -> GoPro. Non of them? YI 4K is fine.
I just have taken a look at the record I did today on motorbike with hero6. Yes indeed the audio is much better on hero, till lets say 70km/h you don't even need an external mic! However the image stabilization on hero6 is to extreme. That just doesn't look natural and when i turn head some lag + egagerated movement is recorded. Moreover the Quik software is bugy like hell.

well, I haven't tested, but I would be surprised if Hero6 stabilisation is not good (or at least as good es other cams). Don't expect it to be a feature that magically smoothes all you videos, EIS is limited to a certain amount of movement (the zoomed in area). Otherwise try using a gimbal, that's the best way for smooth videos.
I have it. I used VLC player , it’s no good idea . For 4k video playing on pc is better windowsmediaplayer. I bougt for my gopro6 micro Sd card with write speed 90 MB/s. It’s good. I need any videoeditor for win, what about adobe elements 15 ?
I love the Sony, however, I hate the facts that t doesn't have rear LCD screen so i don't know what the hell I'm recording, and also, if you want underwater recording, you have to buy separate case for it, because of its dome camera design.
Eines der Top Reviews die ich bisher gesehen habe. Wirklich gut gemacht und man konnte die Unterschiede raussehen und raushören :)
Vielen Dank für das Feedback!
I've just purchased a Yi 4K+ action camera and your video is most helpful in seeing the difference in the Image Stabilization and quality of sound. Thanks and well done a big thumbs up.
Kym Moulds thank you very much for your feedback!
EIS really worked on the yi 4K plus! good review, this helped me a lot, I returned my hero 5 because of freezing and overheat issue.
Thanks for your feedback, glad I could help
- Yi has more detail in the shadows at 2:57
- bitrate is not high enough, when there is a lot of motion and many textures, the image on all cameras is pretty pixelated
These pixelated parts are due to RUclips compression - Unfortunately.
Lossless compression would be nice for youtube :)
The EIS on the Yi 4K+ looks really great!
Yeah, I was really impressed when I put it next to the non stabilised footage
Thank you so much. I've been waiting for someone to test the microphones and you have just answered all of my questions with a great review. Wunderbar & danke schön!
Danielle Lonnon Vielen Dank für das Feedback!
This actually review im looking for
Sjcam sj8 pro VS yi 4k+ VS yi 4k
Which is the best for video+audio quality?
*Sorry for bad grammar🙏
Sj8 Pro has the best image stabilization if that is important to you
really great review of the 3 cameras! awesome!

Good testing and demo of each =)

Great review as usual! I can make my decisions based on your review now :) Cheers!

Hi Marc & thanks for your feedback. There is a YI cable, not sure if others work regarding the USB-C wiring:

i like mic Gopro5
Audio on GoPro is superior to all action cams

is the audio quality with an underwater chase still good for yi 4k+?
Noah :3 it's ok. When talking not that clear, but with windnoise its fine
el Producente thank you btw do you know if you need the waterchase for doing videos with the chestmount or can i plug it in without the chase?

4K 60fps is a lot more to process. My Mac also slows down when I go with 4K 60fps.
yes slows down but dosnt make a dia show with 2 frames a sec or?
You have to put the hero 5 in some sort of case as I doesn't have a threaded tripod mount. The audio on your Hero 5 is miles better than mine, have you drilled holes in it?
No I just used the included frame (and tripod adapter)
is THE EIS of the i 4K+ better than the Yi 4K EIS?
Yi 4K doesn’t have EIS
@@elProducente I have a 4k and it hast EIS Up to 2.7k Resolution. That is why I asked
Sorry forgot the “in 4K”.
So if you are recording in 4K, 4K+ is better.
When comparing in 2.7k or 1080p there is no difference
Hola, sabes como se hace para ver video en vivo con la YI 4K en mi PC? Quiero ajustar el lente de la camara pero viendolo desde el monitor de la pc. Gracias
Let me check. As far as I know it doesn't work wirelessly as there is no software. Not sure about USB
Yi 4K+ Does offer an external Microphone via USB
yes, there's a USB-C to 3,5mm adapter priced 7,99 USD: amzn.to/2xa2SPy
Go pro has the best sound stabilization, the image quality was subtle amongst all of them, but by far the go pro was best overall . Thank you. Now I know which to purchase

Depends, 4K60fps is great for slow motion in 4K

You're welcome ;)
Nicely done
Ian Hirst thanks Ian, kept me again from finishing my Iceland video :)
Why I just ear the audio from My yi 4k in the left side, is this normal?
On which device?
Hero 5 has better image quality, stability, and less voice noise . Yi 4k+ unnatural redish color , better image details , better battery life , bad sound . If your buying used camera go with hero 5 , surprisingly cheaper price on ebay then yi. I got one hero 5 for $100, i saw the yi 4k+ they go for $170
y4K+ has wind noise did you use it?
yes, improves the quality a bit. I had the impression it decreases the low tones
did a bike ride and it amazed me how it failed to work.
Wind Setting without Case?
Did you also set Mic to low?
I kept my mic on high which is default. no case
Try low, I think this setting was made for high speeds. Should be a bit better.
GoPro is exceptional in terms of audio on action cams.
4k+ stablisation is really good.
it's really good also available in 4K!
Great video!!

funny thing is yi's action cams are having better sounds in the waterproof case. without it, sound is very uncomfortable to listen.
배정현 maybe they are optimized to be used in case
Not optimized but if you take them apart it's how it's encased, quality of mic, n is there more of a wind proof barrier then mic set also when sound testing it's best to have one alone n not two others on the side as a small barrier...you can always try out a diy microphone shield could help as they probably didn't think of an added wind barrier

Where was this filmed?
St. Corona, Austria
the Yi 4K+ audio quality is disappointing..
I'd say GoPro audio is astonishing for a small action camera. All others have average result.
I like it..god bless u
which one should i buy ?
I think first it depends on your budget as these cams range from 180 to 399 USD.
Secondly on the features you need the most:
Image stabilization in 4K, Slow Motion in 4K? -> YI 4K+
Waterproof without case, GPS? -> GoPro.
Non of them? YI 4K is fine.
el Producente how about that sound which 4k vs 4k+ ?
Gutted as i just ordered a 4k+ but the Gopro looks, well, just better and sounds better - that wind elimination does sweet FA.
well on the other hand GoPro is also a 150 USD extra
Hint: stick a piece of tape over the microphone in windy conditions, it will eliminate the noise. Talk louder though. Lol
The paper would make it very dull.
It shows how much better GoPro performs
(Usually I don't use the sound of action cams anyway)
And i will get the Hero6 instead of the Yi4k+ ... the YI audio is just a lot worse
Audio on GoPro (even the cheaper ones) is superb!

i sold my gopro sesion 5 and i think about YI
I really like my YI 4K. It has a little less features than GoPro, but a way lower price.
I have new Gopro6 just, and I am not satisfied with stabilization, I'll probably get it back.

You are right, Sony X3000R are more better than these action cams. Look on other reviews guys and I have it so I know the difference
