If you have noticed the wind proofing in yi 4k plus sucks man if you can make a video with diy mic shields then retest the mic in wind conditions I'm pretty much sold
yi hands down, it's not difficult though as yi registers at much higher bitrate, gopro got such a fkn beating from YI and DJI this year, that I almost feel sorry for them (Karma got them:)
Compare 60fps and 30fps in lowlight? Come on... When you use 60fps mode than camera has has minimal exposure time at 1/60s, for 30fps at 1/30s. So camera needs to set higher ISO to get shorter exposure. And higher ISO means more noise. Moreover camera has to work almost with half of bitrate per one frame than it could be when shooting in 4K 30fps on Yi. So this is not fair comparison for Yi.
I don't know 4K 60 fps is necessary, and I have Sony X3000 already. Sony is very good for image quality and stabilization, but otherwise everything is bad. No type C port, I have to unmounted X3000 to access SD card port and copy the files using USB3.0 SD card reader. The X3000 video streaming using app is lag, but Yi 4K never has this problem.
sony have real seals everywhere, where yi have... nowhere :) little rain and yi will dead. Maybe we talk about quality of cover this cam :). Look on forum how often yi crack on thread without reasons, how many times yi was dead after filming in 4k. Think twice before you advertise, and comment sony. Streaming, no usb 3.0... buy card reader if you want real fast transfer ! Only a few people consider this option necessary, for the rest is just a extras from which they use once and that's it. Sony have cons , but not what you tell.
Cheng Zheng I loved my Sony as20 but problems are: 1. You need different underwater case if you want to film under water and 2. I can't see what I'm filming, no lcd
You should turn sharpness low or off if it''s possible. On YI 4K+ there is clearly much more sharpening in the video. It's just an effect, and hides the true performance of the camera.
I just picked one of these up yesterday from Amazon lightning deal with waterproof case for $184. Anyhow you can't enable EIS at 4K 30 or 60fps. You have to go down to 2k and lower. Not sure if that is something they changed in their firmware but its kind of a bummer. But pick up a gimbal and you're all set. All the videos I watched including this one indicated EIS can be enabled with 4k which is no longer true.
Just the fact that Gopro is waterproof without a case is the selling point for me. Still get sound with no case covering the microphones, and don't have to take it in and out of a case to change cards/batteries. That's what I hate so much about my Hero 3.
Why do every godamn youtubers compare the 4k/30 of the gopro with the 4k/60 of the Yi in low light tests ? What is it to hard to understand that the Yi will get half as much exposure time than the Gopro ?
I have hero 5 Black and I agree that the to seems better however it doesn't have the same support or refinement. Btw on the stabilization test the gopro had a wider FOV which limited it's stabilization.
I have the Yi Handheld Mini Gimbal only, I feel more comfortable with my GoPro hero 5 Black action cam, but would you be able to recommend any brackets that would fit my GoPro 5 Black into this Yi mini Gimbal?
While at 4K 30fps with Gyro on Hand Held, when I tested it running for a short distance the camera makes a clicking or like something is shaking inside. I noticed it when I replayed the video that I recorded.
Could you do an underwater comparison of both cameras? The Yi+ looks like the better camera but I do somewhat prefer the warmer footage of the GoPro. Of course that is something that can easily be changed in aftereffects.
Thank you, but what about professional usage? I need a flat mode, go pro can give a greate flat mode, while yi 4k was just crushing colors. It was useless. What about 4k+ ?
i never used go pro. but seeing this video, i finally found a camera that i want, thanks to you. i dont need to think, all comparison you made, its just totally clear. thank you so much!YI 4K+ no doubt i will buy this:D
I have the Yi 4k+ and i dont recomend it. With the time, the software start to bug sometimes with sudently resets and some sudently shots. And, theres the battery issue. Everytime i turn on the cam, it instantly consume something like 5% of battery, sometimes more and sometimes less. For those issues im selling mine and buying a GoPro 5. Can lose at some specs, but probably wins in quality and safety use.
If there is one glaring weakness about the Yi 4K+ is the tinny sound quality compared to the GoPro Hero 5. This seems to be a common characteristic of every single Chinese GoPro copycat out there (i.e. Gitup, Thieye, SJ Cam, Elephone, Eken). The thing that has never made sense about the GoPro is why they do not have the option of a date and time stamp that the Chinese copycats all offer. I have addressed this with GoPro's tech reps numerous times only to receive a response of, "We have no plans to include this feature."
SamiLuo Review I listened to your review test and noticed that the Yi 4K+ still lacked fullness, especially the lower bass. This is where the GoPro Hero 4 & 5 is noticeably superior to the competition. This becomes critical when recording live musical performances.
Very nice comparison video! Could you please explain to me in detail what exactly is bit rate and why it is better for an action cam to have a high bit rate?
If I was just judging them on specs and image quality for the price I'd go for the Yi 4k+. However, the Yi 4k+ does not have HDMI out like the GoPro Hero 5 Black, or the ability to charge whilst using Audio in via 3.5mm Mic/Line in adapter. To me, these are deal breakers. GoPro Hero 5 Black actually has a fuller feature set, which is often forgotten in a lot of these comparison videos. Obviously if you don't need these features the Yi is a better buy.
Hi good video!!, I vote for YI 4k + What is the name of the vehicle you use to move so fast over the road? Could you put some links on the description for that one too?
Wow: The Yi 4K Plus definitely has better image stabilization, but I think the GoPro Hero 5 has better sound recording. At one point when you were moving along quickly over the grass, for example, I think with the image stabilization turned on in 4K that the Yi looked a little bit muddy, like it was blurring the details together. I wonder for non-shaky situations if the Yi is sharper and less muddy with the image stabilization turned off than it is with it turned on. (This is comparing the Yi with itself that way.)
This is a very interesting video. One thing you did was compare Yi 4K 60 with GoPro 4K 30 in a low-light situation. I think the Yi at 60 frames per second would have to have twice the shutter speed. This would make the shutter be open half as long, letting in less light per frame. Maybe this is why the GoPro at 4K 30 did better in low light than the Yi did at 4K 60. Therefore, maybe you should compare the Yi 4K 30 with the GoPro 4K 30 when making a low-light comparison. What do you think? I also think that when you have a faster shutter speed, a few things might happen automatically with a camera. One is that the aperture widens, and this would theoretically decrease your depth of field, although these action cameras are focused on just about everything beyond a given distance anyway. Another thing having a faster shutter speed does might be to increase the ISO, which could cause more blurriness due to noise artifacts. However, I would have to know how each of these specific cameras adjusts with aperture and ISO compensation for different shutter speeds in order to try to figure out an explanation. Getting back to my original idea, I wonder if the Yi at 4K 30 did better in low light than it did at 4K 60. If so, maybe its 4K 30 video in low light was as good as the GoPro's.
WOW. I am speechless and kinda definitely regretting just buying a new gopro hero 5 right now. This is awkward... Anyone know if it's easy to return and get a YI instead? I bought through GoPro's website, not Amazon
I got the yi 4k+ for $271 on prime day, cant wait to test it out!! I feel sorry for Us companies since they have to carry more R&D costs and more expensive labors.
Yi 4k+ it's better overall without a doubt. GoPro 5 though is much better at extreme audio conditions (shame one Yi for not solving that issue from the previous version) and is waterproof without a case which can come in handy. But stabilization on Yi is so much better and dynamic range also. There's also one thing that i like in the Yi 4k+ which is costumer support. I have a Yi 4k (normal version) and because of firmware upgrades they improved the camera video and photo and they are still releasing some useful upgrades. I doubt that GoPro does that. Great review man, you deserve a lot more credit for the reviews that you make, so many shitty "content creators" out there making money with crap videos while guys like you should have much more viewers and subscribers. Keep up the good work! Greetings from Portugal!
Ben can you make a video about yi 4k vs yi 4k+? I really want to buy one of them but I'm still deciding which one is the best for me, Love all of your video btw its really informative :3 subscribed from Indonesia
First off, Great video. This is very interesting.... just bought a hero 5 the other day. Why does it only do 4K 30? Why doesn't it have stabilization at 4K? It just seems like the lesser camera in many regards here.. the stabilization, almost everything. Kinda odd to me. Hoping the hero 6 gets 4K60 at least... can't imagine that gopro hasn't been seeing this type of competition, so I wonder what they're thinking I DO like the waterproof with no case option with the hero 5, one of the main reasons I got it.
why does EVERYONE miss the fact the yi is more of a dslr BECAUSE of the 155 degree lens! turn on the non distortion and its so close the a dslr its AMAZING.
I kind of agree with most of your comments however it was clear to me that the gopro colors were much better. The green looks greener, etc. What do you think?
tamimeltamimi that's actually not preferred if you have plans to edit videos later on..less colorful better for viding..colorw can be brought back in video editing
I really enjoyed your video. You blasted GoPro a little. Almost makes you seem biased. I saw areas where the GoPro was better and vice versa. Great reviews minus your slight bias.
Hoping to be happier with the Yi, I have a Hero5 Black and Hero5 Silver, both of which don't work consistently. I only had them a little longer than a year before they gave me significant issues. GoPro didn't help at all and offered me 20% off new cameras... they are now paperweights.
So, how does Yi take a beating?? An example with GP was this dude that sent up lot of action cams with a weather balloon.. Frifalling back... GP was the only one working
Thank you Ben Schmanke for this video. Great job. I'm shocked how crap the GoPro is compared to the YI 4K+. It humiliates the GoPro 5. I know which one I'm getting.... YI 4K+
Gopro need someone who will push the team to actually make this camera much way better also the karma gimbal and drone! (live streaming, ability to attach wireless professional mic, ability to grip karma anywhere like revio s1, smaller drone with longer battery) that's what people want! what people need! what other companies have it!
it seems that Yi 4k+ won in every single comparsion xD nice. You messed in my head right now because I always thought that the gopro's are the best. You just proved that I was wrong =)
The price on the Yi 4k+ is still around 350 while the GoPro is now at 250$. I think you should get a GoPro in my opinion. Im going to get one for vlogging so wish me luck
first DJI destroyed them with mavic pro (poor karma), and now YI, for less money, I think they are doing the same. Gopro spends a lot on advertising but seems to have forgotten to invest in research to improve. users want the best and not just a nice name.
It's starting to show that GoPro needs to start pricing their products to a more realistic and competitive price. Good job Yi. GoPro, well done too, but that price...
Youre all speaking about sharpness..shades..etc. But you forgot to mention colours. The GoPro colours look SO MUCH better then Yi. Thats why people buy goPro.
I just sub, Thanks and good job on the review, i bought the Yi 4k+ and it does great video with WB Daylight at daytime. test it out see what you think.
Bummer that you didn't compare the apps. The go pro app is pretty sweet, so I'd like to see how the Yi app compares, since the camera blows the go pro away.
I don't know how did the GoPro app has evolved since the 4 black came, but Yi app is great, better than the one i've tried two years ago (+-) when GoPro had launched 4 Black version...
See videos with the go pro and yi4k+ on motorbike and you ll see the real truth. The go pro was and is unbeatable in stab.Plus you ll find out that if you put the yi4k+on a helmet the voice is terrible while on gopro is very good. The video quality is important but since its very good also in go pro and we talk about action cams the stab and sound is most important.I d like to add also that in other videos on youtube i did not see this shaking in any gopro,STrange is it not?
I'm more referring to the first few comparisons where you have Yi 4K+ 60 FPS footage running along side GoPro Hero 5 30 FPS footage. It does look a lot clearer though! Just a shame the smoothness wasn't showcased too is all.
Go pro вообще мне не нравится, звук отстой, ветрозащита не помогает,глючит часто, батарейки на мало хватает, часто запись прерывает, ночью вообще ничего не видно...За Китай хоть денег отдать не жалко...
Great video and excellent way of comparison. I'm about to make a big mistake and trying to prevent it by watching a zillion of videos to understand what is the best (+/- £700) 4k camera around these days. My phone contract is due to renewal too, so I thought whether it would be so good idea to get Sony xz premium or Samsung S8, as it's could be very multifunctional device, not only a camera, but still so hard to make my mind. Please HEEEELP! Thumbs up to loads of your vids and +1 Sub from me :) Keep up the great work!
*Which one do you like better?!?*

So which on should I buy ?
If you have noticed the wind proofing in yi 4k plus sucks man if you can make a video with diy mic shields then retest the mic in wind conditions I'm pretty much sold
Great comparison. In my opinion Xiaomi Yi 4k + is better than GoPro. I'm using previous model and it's great. 4K plus looks amazing!
Omg just the stabilization alone is enough to pick the YI 4K+ over the GoPro.
I agree. So much better!
Kuen Lee my new camera :D . Just the design I preffer GoPro, is more cute xD
Probably the build too. Else the Yi 4K+ is pretty much better for most people.
I thought the same thing until I realized the YI still needs a housing to go under water.
yi hands down, it's not difficult though as yi registers at much higher bitrate,
gopro got such a fkn beating from YI and DJI this year, that I almost feel sorry for them (Karma got them:)
Lol... Karma really nipped 'em in the bud :)
Don't forget, Sony's FDRx3000 has been kicking gopro's ass for a while now too :) --Now if the latest gopro 6 has OIS +60fps?? Watch out!! :)
halo halos GoPro is having a difficult year hahaha!
Compare 60fps and 30fps in lowlight? Come on... When you use 60fps mode than camera has has minimal exposure time at 1/60s, for 30fps at 1/30s. I've been using YI 4K camera since the official launch (earlier actually). Still works as new, amazing quality!

There is the feature to do so but all and all its all default testing

Go pro: we have a cool gimbal for our camera
Yi4k: we have a gimbal INSIDE our camera lol
orenji12341 this was the hero 6 of the yi that’s why
Gopro hero 7 lol get rekt
Ben it's a great review and comparison, thanks!
Great video! Super informative! I'm leaning more towards the YI 4k+.
COMPARE DE YI4K+ WITH SONY ACTION CAM PLEASE!
Check my channel if you want to see this comparison :)

Funny to see some GoPro fan boys:)
Someone even claimed Karma that piece of junk is better than Mavic.
+Wang Max - Lol, one thing I've learned, people are faithful to a brand, like it's a family member. I don't understand it...
cause I spent $70 more on a gropro. I have to justify my cost. lol
Hi Ben, great review! Does the Yi have the option to set the pov to linear/narrow like the one in GoPro?
Hi Ben, thanks for the comparison video. Really helped with my decision on which one to buy
Why do every godamn youtubers compare the 4k/30 of the gopro with the 4k/60 of the Yi in low light tests ? What is it to hard to understand that the Yi will get half as much exposure time than the Gopro ?
Learn the difference between frame rate and shutter speed.
i agree
I have hero 5 Black and I agree that the to seems better however it doesn't have the same support or refinement. Btw on the stabilization test the gopro had a wider FOV which limited it's stabilization.
Gongratz on 100k!!
Thankz!
I have the Yi Handheld Mini Gimbal only, I feel more comfortable with my GoPro hero 5 Black action cam, but would you be able to recommend any brackets that would fit my GoPro 5 Black into this Yi mini Gimbal?
Great video! Stabilization is impressive on the Yi. Stabilizer work for 1080p on the Yi too?
rafaelunplugged yes
Amazing review, as usual!
What camera are you using for filming?
Just bought one with Yi 3d gimbal combo from Ali Yi store for $350. Sorry GoPro, you can not beat that.
While at 4K 30fps with Gyro on Hand Held, when I tested it running for a short distance the camera makes a clicking or like something is shaking inside. I noticed it when I replayed the video that I recorded.
Please make a comparison video between yi 4k plus vs gopro hero 6
With the YI 4K, your previous comparison video said the waterproof case muffled all audio. Did you get a chance to test that with this new 4K+?
Could you do an underwater comparison of both cameras? The Yi+ looks like the better camera but I do somewhat prefer the warmer footage of the GoPro. Of course that is something that can easily be changed in aftereffects.
Can you comparison Yi 4k+ and Firefly 8s?
Thank you, but what about professional usage?
I need a flat mode, go pro can give a greate flat mode, while yi 4k was just crushing colors. It was useless. What about 4k+ ?
Great video. Yi is doing a great job. I use my Yi4k more than my Hero 5. The Yi4k+ is great with the USB-C for an external mic.
Me too! (I prefer it over my laggy gopro)
AuthenTech - Ben Schmanke The Yi's AI and touchscreen is also way better. Very responsive.
Wow, cant wait for my Yi 4k plus to arrive! Was this all just done on a selfie stick?
i never used go pro. but seeing this video, i finally found a camera that i want, thanks to you. i dont need to think, all comparison you made, its just totally clear. thank you so much!YI 4K+ no doubt i will buy this:D
Any outputs??? Would crush even more with output to add external monitor
I have the Yi 4k+ and i dont recomend it. With the time, the software start to bug sometimes with sudently resets and some sudently shots. And, theres the battery issue. No it doesnt. Sounds worse than a cheap phone, with all low end frequencies being very muted.
Can you please make a review of the fighter rc car ?!
Just got the Hero5 Session. The best tiny camera. Good review and I like the Hero5 best. I'll wait for a good deal though. Thanks!
Very nice comparison video! Could you please explain to me in detail what exactly is bit rate and why it is better for an action cam to have a high bit rate?

I'm inclined on the Yi4k+. As long as I can have a solid way to suction cup mount it in an airplane, I'm happy.
GoPro does not respond to emails. I know, they never responded to mine either. Sold my Hero 5 for the 6. Returned after one week and got the Yi.
Hi good video!!, I vote for YI 4k +

ben which one should i buy ?
Hey Ben, what's the tripod shown holding the 2 cameras at the start of the video?
That's my "secret" Dual Mount Holder! ;) ➜ amzn.to/2tmdvRw
Sorry, don't want to sound rude. I was asking about the silver tripod that the holder was sat on, not the actual holder 😂😂
WOW. I am speechless and kinda definitely regretting just buying a new gopro hero 5 right now. This is awkward... Anyone know if it's easy to return and get a YI instead? I bought through GoPro's website, not Amazon

I DO like the waterproof with no case option with the hero 5, one of the main reasons I got it.
I like everything about the yi 4k+ over gopro except one, the color. Its like there is a red tint on the video.
The yi cam is clear winner here.
why does EVERYONE miss the fact the yi is more of a dslr BECAUSE of the 155 degree lens! turn on the non distortion and its so close the a dslr its AMAZING.
Is it me or does the GoPro look better in all the shots?
(I hope it's me, I'm really not happy with my Hero 5's quality)
They improved every thing in yi 4k plus also mics or is just me?

If Yi was water proof without the casing at the same price it would completely destroy go pro off the market.
Yi4k+ skin tone red?
Colorscience of the GoPro is way better and it seems like the GoPro 6 with the same hardware is on its way (need 24p anyway...)
The Yi now has 24p (firmware update). And a firmware update corrected the red problem. They are very responsive!
markr041 excellent
it seems that Yi 4k+ won in every single comparsion xD nice.

I can’t afford any of these, it’s just entertaining. ;(
Thanks for the heart! I love your videos!
Waiting for Yi 360 vs Gopro Fusion
Well done Ben
why do the yis sound so bad?
I just sub, Thanks and good job on the review, i bought the Yi 4k+ and it does great video with WB Daylight at daytime. test it out see what you think.
Suck a great review! Still thinking about it though🤔
Bummer that you didn't compare the apps. The go pro app is pretty sweet, so I'd like to see how the Yi app compares, since the camera blows the go pro away.
+Matt Phelps - the YI app is actually quite good. I've covered it in previous vids so this time I left it out. Thanks for letting me know though
I don't know how did the GoPro app has evolved since the 4 black came, but Yi app is great, better than the one i've tried two years ago (+-) when GoPro had launched 4 Black version...
only down side is the yi has some distortion look at the water
Got the YI 4K+ on Prime Day for 20% off.
Great comparison Ben!
I really like the Yi cam, better performance and a little nicer to your wallet! :)
+Tommie Gustafsson - Thanks for watching and commenting!
Love your vids still! But the subscribe beg button in the middle is a little off putting... And I still like "Let's live the Authentec life" better ;)
Nine video ben. Keep up the great work. I still like the gopro more;)
I feel like the 60 FPS / 30 FPS comparison falls flat when you don't upload a 60 FPS video
How do I showcase a 60FPS clip slowed-down 50% on a 60 FPS timeline?
I'm more referring to the first few comparisons where you have Yi 4K+ 60 FPS footage running along side GoPro Hero 5 30 FPS footage. It does look a lot clearer though! Just a shame the smoothness wasn't showcased too is all.
You deserve way more subs
Go pro вообще мне не нравится, звук отстой, ветрозащита не помогает,глючит часто, батарейки на мало хватает, часто запись прерывает, ночью вообще ничего не видно...За Китай хоть денег отдать не жалко...
WTF yi 4k+is overprice in amazon japan almost triple the price of gopro hero 5
Where is nick?
Great video and excellent way of comparison. I'm about to make a big mistake and trying to prevent it by watching a zillion of videos to understand what is the best (+/- £700) 4k camera around these days. My phone contract is due to renewal too, so I thought whether it would be so good idea to get Sony xz premium or Samsung S8, as it's could be very multifunctional device, not only a camera, but still so hard to make my mind. Please HEEEELP!
Thumbs up to loads of your vids and +1 Sub from me :) Keep up the great work!
If you hadn't told me how many views those videos received I wouldn't have continued to watch this one. #what
happy with my 4k+
Im getting the yi+
I like this video !
