- Did you know that Shropshire was a great industrial heartland in England? I didn't. But it was, and Phil and myself are in the county to take a look at some of the remains.
In this video, we're starting off just outside Telford on a plate way that used to run between Meadowhill Colliery and Blists Hill Ironworks.
We take a look at Lee Dingle Bridge, that used to carry the tramway across the London and Northwestern Railway, whose 'Coalport Branch' ran deep in the natural gorge.
Then we follow the trackbed of the L&NWR down the valley, through Blists Hill tunnel, and under the 'Great Hay Incline'.
The latter carried iron and coal from the Shropshire canal, down to the river Severn, and still has all the tracks in place, as they plunge directly into the canal basin.
Beyond there, we follow the line down to the riverside, and the site of Coalport East station.

Great video, absolutely beautiful scenery. Appreciate you Gareth & Phil so very much.🙏❤
Always fascinating to see the areas now and what they looked like in old photos. Amazing what engineering feats the Victorians accomplished.
They were a cut above for sure
Great video tour
Thanks!
Nice one lads! I was 20 the last time I went to that incline, nice to see it again. Beautiful round there.
Its lovely mate. Ironbridge is great. Used to gig there a lot when I was younger so always loved a good hangover stomp.
Hope Phil got his tire fixed. Nice trip and scenery - industry and nature :). Interesting to see the old photographs compared with what the places look like now. Life is always changing. -Steve, Dallas, TX
Yes i did ! It was a bit damp and the glue would not set so i gave up and swiftly put a spare inner tube in that i had with me.
Without the photos, it's a car park! Ha. But yes, they bring it all to life.
The first incline you saw is called The Wind, also the Lee Dingle Bridge, I walked across that in 1962.
Oh that's awesome. Beautiful part of the country!
Another great trek. Those inclines looked too steep for steam engines pulling cars full of coal. or whatever, Rge River Seven looks like a great raft trip!
Yeah, would be on a chain rope I reckon. The river wasn't playing games that day.
Beautiful scenery, that incline into the water was something else, wasn't it!
It's lovely. We did some more in the area that I need to edit!
@@IckeWalks look forward to them, went to watch the next one and can't tomorrow I think...disappointed...slow horses it is
Another cracking video, I only lived 10 mins from here, well worth a visit to Blist hill Museum and the other Ironbridge Gorge Industrial and Historical Museums which you can purchase a single ticket to visit them all, Coalport East as you know was the terminus for the LNWR line, tje other side ofthe river is Coalport Wesr on the GWR from Kidderminster, Bridgnorth which connected Shrewsbury the Severn Valley Line. You can walk the line from the Buidwas ex Power station fence back to Bridgnorth with a few stations to be seen and a quite abit off infrastructure still extant, keep up the work,
Yes thats correct my friend. Of course whilst we there we couldnt let that other line you mention go undocumented........!
Awesome stomp hope you Phil n gang well Gareth interesting you mention. Shrewsbury home to Severn bridge junction home of worlds largest mechanical signal box following closure of Spencer street no2 in Australia
Ah great knowledge. Need to get around that way too
@@IckeWalks yep and rare thing is because of
Junctions it controls from Birmingham etc network rail said uneconomical to recontrol with colour lights so will remain lever frame with 2 or 3 signallers for foreseeable future
Another brilliant video and really do appreciate the work you guys out into research and sharing your finds. I hope ive not missed it but have you done walks round Shipley Park in Heanor and all the history there with collieries and the American Adventure that was there? Just thought id mention. Keep up the amazing works!

@@Dillis-ud6lr No problem at all! I appreciate it.
Just thought about another stomp and explore you could do is the long drax swing bridge that was on the Hull to Barnsley railway line,, also any trails nearby that run on the old line through places near Howden
