- In our latest industrial explore Phil and I are in Shropshire.
I refer a couple of times to "The last video we did", but I have edited and released in a slightly different order.
This is the video I am referring to - • The Walk - EP 106 - A ...
In this explore, we are cycling along the former Severn Valley Railway between Coalport West station and the former Ironbridge power station, in Shropshire.
Ironbridge is famous, believe it or not, for having an Ironbridge. It was the first major Ironbridge ever constructed in the world in 1779, and still stands firm today.
We find remains of stations, bridges, viaducts, lime kilns, embedded track, mineral railway inclines while cycling alongside the River Seven in the stunning Ironbridge gorge.

Thanks Gareth and Phil That was both interesting and very beautiful 👍
Thank you.
My absolute favourite one so far as i make my way through "The Walk" playlist & watch the most recent ones. So much to see & easy to imagine the amount of grit & hard work went into building these structures back in ye' older times. Appreciate Gareth & Phil so much for showing us these wonderful & sometimes forgotten beauty's of the past. 🙏❤
Cheers mate
All those trees, beautiful, thanks to both of you...
Yeah its lovely round there,
Nice one Gaz! Nice afternoon viewing. Love that kiln, beautifully built with solid buttresses
Cheers pal
Visited Ironbridge many years ago. Really interesting place. And a nice walk, cycle mr icke.
Cheers mate.
Kayaked under it in the early 90s when I was an undergrad at Wolvo. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. I can certainly relate to the pub brawl incident, I have seen things you people wouldn't believe!
That sounds awesome. The Kayak. Not the scrapping!
Awesome video hope you Phil n gang well Gareth x
Thank you
@@IckeWalks your welcome 🤗
Just down the road from me, love Ironbridge ❤
Did you get a pork pie from Eley’s?
A few places can claim to be the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution but I think that place has the real feel of it. You need to do the North East the birthplace of the railways.
I really do. You're right
Ironbridge may have originally been Coalbrookdale. Loved the pub fight description!
Good shout
Wiki seems to like Madeley wood.
@@andrewcrisp9391 @IckeWalks Hard to tell from my quick sources and a look at Google Maps. Maybe Coalbrookdale is the name of the gorge or Valley. Being from the US I understand that I could be way off on UK naming conventions. But Coalbrookdale makes a lot of sense for a name of the area,
@@bwaynesilva Coalbrookdale,Dawley,Ironbridge and the general Industry reflecting this explore is all mentioned in the musical poem 'The Shropshire Lad' read by the English Eccentric Poet , Sir John Betjeman. The Shropshire Lad being Captain Matthew Webb who was from this area (In Shropshire) and was a famous Stuntman & Swimmer. ruclips.net/video/-jnT4tOl_qQ/видео.html Sir John Betjeman interestingly had a railway locomotive named after him. No doubt inspired by his love of architecture and railways.
@@gilesestram Thanks!
Before Ironbridge it was called Coalbrookdale.
Ah, thank you for that. I did wonder!
Don't get videoing people on your bike like vine Gaz.
Hahahaha.

Coalbrookdale the Master Forges an casters, they ended up making exstremely fine cast iron and forged two an three seater outdoor benches, they had lattice type yet beautifully curved interwoven well forged together seat an backrests rather like basket weaving highly sort after worth thousands even the old trade catalogue of their designs fetch a few grand, I'm not sure anyone's been able to replicate the process.
