  • I recently replaced the 15+ year old gauge overlay I had on my 1996 Pontiac Trans AM with a custom one I ordered at blackcatcustom.com. It takes about 2 months to arrive, but they offer some cool custom options and optional LED bulbs to replace the incandescent bulbs in the gauge cluster. Hopefully my video will make your install go a bit quicker.

    Love your taste in gauges I literally just got the exact same face 2 days ago lol. Just put it in today, I love it! I'm gonna have to get that '97 bezel though, looks way better than my '94..

      Awesome. Did you end up adding the extra led strip for the top right of the speedo? I actually used mine to get more light on the fuel gauge or did you stick with ur stock bulbs?

      @@ringnjc I was gonna go with the LED kit but there was no way to get the colors to match up with the HVAC/Lights without soldering the LEDs in. I might do it one day but for now, stock bulbs it is!

    You mean your not gonna roll back the mileage while your in there ?? LMAO -c'mon now that was funny, right? on my '98 T/A the odometer is digital so no roll'n back, but seriously great job on the video making it detailed and thorough. My luck the gauges wouldn't be accurate LOL I would panic every time the needle on the temp gauge would climb.

      Thx man. I am just a weekend warrior so try to make it as detailed as I could for those of us that might be afraid to take stuff apart. Lol on the roll back, thought crossed my mind but I don’t ever plan to sell it and the miles are a badge of honor!!!

      @@ringnjc haha same. I get ppl all of the time here in Vegas wanting me to sell mine. lol mines in Sebring silver T-tops all stock. I only put a 1400 watt sound system. I bought it from a one owner lady back in '14

      @@ringnjc I used to build custom sound systems for people. The one I put in is a Kenwood cd player HD radio/ sirius/ it has the morphing colors, YOU can set it to one color or just let it change. It gradually shifts thru a rainbow of colors when it's on. I have Alpine door speakers/ 2 Planet Audio 12'' subs mounted on a slant in the back. I have a 1 inch soundboard covered in black leather with a 1200 watt Planet Audio amp with a Planet Audio bass processor. Both have a controller one on the left side under the dash and the other next to the ashtray. I mean it's really loud but crystal clear at all volume levels. Alot of systems are just loud but sound like crap. Mine always sound clear like a home stereo. I might make a YT video showing my T/A and this system. I have never made a video so it would probably suk LOL -I wish I was as good as you making videos haha

    I’ve had an issue with LED bulbs. They keep burning out after a couple of months.

    • @ringnjc
      @ringnjc  7 месяцев назад

      I haven’t had a problem with the bulbs from these guys yet, but I’ve probably only put 2k miles on the car since I did it and maybe 30% night driving. So small sample size. They also don’t dim very much. I would consider switching back to incandescent for better dimming.

      The LEDs need to be twisted in properly if I recall, also try putting your regular bulbs back in to make sure they light up still.

      LEDs have polarity, you might have somehow put every single one in backwards ...
