If you use your vacuum sealer attachment to vacuum out the air, it will last longer. Just a suggestion. Great way to make a lot of desserts!

Actually they're awesome if you consider a few things: I add an oxygen absorber packet AND a coffee filter on top of any fluffy powder mixes so that fine powder doesn't get sucked up in the seal AND I purchased a manual suction pump (kind of like a bike-tire pumping action but it sucks instaed of blows). I freeze my grains & rice 3+ days to kill bug eggs then dehydrate in low heat oven in case the freezer added moisture. Once dry, tranfer to clean jars & pump away! The manual pump is narrow enough to tuck in a drawer AND berries & lettuce last super long if a mason jar is lined with a paper towel & all the air is sucked out!

@@donnas2375 also, using a Ziploc vacuum (loaned my pump n seal out and alas it didn't come back), every couple of weeks or so if you're concerned, go back thru your stockpile and re-vacuum. Since my pump n seal didn't come home, and if you can find them they're Expensive, I lost all my yellow tabs so I'm using high quality electrical tape, I actually tape, vacuum and tape again. But if shtf, I'll re-vacuum every month or so.

I think you need to add the water, then let the mixture sit a little while to absorb it. You have freeze-dried fruit, dehydrated milk, dehydrated butter, and dehydrated milk, so all that will take a little time to rehydrate. It might look like there is too much liquid but give it time. I actually thought you might need to add more water than that, but just give it time before deciding.

    Hey, idea for the tags...
Why not see if recipe (light-paper-type) cards can be made up that stick to the jars?
    Like large stickers.
That would give you room to write instructions too, before affixing to the jars.
Or, if you're only tying the cards to the jars, why not just use small pre-made recipe cards & punch holes in them?
No stickers to remove later, when you re-use jars.
    Just a thought or two...

How about making a rice sachet and adding that to the jar to absorb the oxygen moisture.

Strange enough a pot on a single burner portable stove filled with water a small grill rack inside and a pot inside cover makes a pretty moist cake or bread you just won't get much of the browning. So if you don't have access to a oven or a grill which can make a good oven you might want to try it

Oh my gosh yes this is a great tip! This reminds me of two things...a backpacking trip with a class in high school where we were introduced to something called the ""bakepacker" that used this very concept except the bread cooked inside a plastic bag on a rack in the pot- we made cornbread. And a Girl Scout camping trip where we put muffin batter into unwaxed paper cups and into a covered pot with a shallow layer of simmering water and made steamed muffins. Thank you so much for this tip and reminder!
