To save your fuel, you can bring your pasta to a boil then shut it off. The pasta will continue to cook in the hot water.

Hi Jara, I am a new viewer and I appreciate the hard work and dedication you put into your channel. It has been so very helpful to me being a new prepper. I love everyone of your salad kits you have put together w special attention to every detail. I plan to make everyone of them. I'm not feeling quite so overwhelmed as I first did starting to prep less than a month ago. I must comment on the first video of yours I watched which was 3 meals for 4 people for 7 days, that was awesome! And I had a lot of the ingredients already on hand. Your thriftiness is a blessing for me being on Social Security. I like the butane burner that's a smart tip too. Please continue to explain thoroughly like you do, so helpful to us newbies and looking forward to more of your super good ideas.

Hi, new subscriber here... A few extra ideas that I have tried and like... Cream of mushroom soup in Kraft dinner instead of butter and milk, add a can of peas and carrots for veggies, any canned meat for protein. .... For an awesome side dish.... Knorr chicken noodle soup, 3 cups of water instead of 4, add 1.5 cups of rice, a can of peas and carrots, simmer for 10 minutes stirring occasionally ... Thanks for your recipes and ideas ... you are Waaaay ahead of me, and I appreciate your ideas ...

FYI if you put pasta in empty pot and then add water to a littler higher than covered around half inch, and cook till the water basically gone (right before it would burn) then set it aside(in hot pot) for a few minutes so it can absorb whatever is left. You don’t have to wait for the water to come to a boil and there is not water waste. Also if you are conserving fuel. You can add another pan for the lid and cook the spaghetti sauce

When I lived in Peru we were in an area without a lot of water. We used very little water for cooking and we would boil the water, turn it off and let the pasta sit/ covered until done.

Great video. Thank you. When I was getting ready to retire, I knew that it would be six weeks before my first retirement check arrived. Even though I prepared for it, I decided to challenge myself and make the first month a no spend month. Part of the readiness was making bagged meals. My Dollar Tree carries ziplock bags that are two gallon sized. I made many bagged breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and a few desserts. Even in my tiny home they did not take up a ton of space. I cannot wait to try the lemon dessert. 🥗

I love and watch every meal in a bag video. Meals in a bag have saved my life and come in handy on more than one occasion. An emergency situation tends to hit unexpectedly. It feels so comforting to know that there’s a baggie of items that will make a beautiful meal. 💗

These salads look really good. Wanted to mention that there's no need to add so much water for pasta. Do a little googling and experimentation, but you can use minimal liquid, keep the lid on and the pasta will cook, absorbing the liquid and come out perfect with no need to drain because all the water is absorbed. Or maybe only a little to drain off. Also uses a lot less fuel for cooking. I'm Italian, I do this all the time. I'll put in the pasta, add a can of tomatoes and whatever and typically the water in the cans is sufficient to cook and all the flavors meld together. Very nice. Think of slow cooking when people add dry pasta closer to the end of the cooking and the pasta absorbs the liquid already there. Thanks for your video!

🥗 I have made something similar to the first salad you made, for many years. I call it my Garbage Bowl Salad! lol I load it up with any veggies that are sitting in the refrigerator that need to be used up. I also add chunk ham or chicken and cubed cheese. By the end of making it there is very little pasta and it overflows with fresh veggies. The Zesty Italian is a perfect compliment to it. Love your idea of adding garbanzo beans to it; I had not thought of that.

Hey Jara ! on the chicken, Caesar salad, definitely CRUNCHY on the kale chips. The other thing is I've made pasta salads and scooped them onto a bed of lettuce of course this is either when people have refrigeration, or if they have a garden full of lettuce, I can cut it daily as they need it. Love cold meals even in the winter because we don't have much of a winter in Florida. Just wanted to comment on this dish as I'm watching the video. Thanks for the info 😉🌴🦋

It helps canned chicken if you rinse it and flake it prior to mixing in the salad. I don't really like garbanzo beans but I like cannellini beans, that might appeal to those who don't like garbanzo and would fit with fit with a Italian style pasta salad.

I make a pasta salad using thinly sliced celery radishes grapes, throw in some raisins tiny cubes of cheeses olives a drained can of chicken and dressing of some sort. Sometimes it's a homemade Italian other times it's mayo or a Mayo/'wicked' cashew and beet sauce sold commercial. I put this in recycled glass jars for our lunches. By the time the veggies are all in there's actually only a little pasta. I like to sprinkle a little bit of nuts on top as I eat. I usually mix enough for 2 days. Save time on the second day. I sometimes get bogged down in what is for lunch today.

🥗 one thing I’ve done from Dollar tree is getting a box of stuffing, couple cans of chicken, either cream of chicken/mushroom/ chicken gravy, chicken a la king (couple cans of the soups or one can of soup and chicken broth usually depends on what i have on hand Mix it together and bake it .. i dont use the instructions on the stuffing mix as the soup, chicken and broth/gravy will make the mixture wet enough you can add veggies inside of it or just add them to the side. It’s comforting as it gives you the quick taste of thanks giving w/ out all the work .. since my husband passed away it’s just me and im not going to try to fix a big meal like thanksgiving for just myself it seems so wasteful

Love the all the recipes! I am pretty new to your channel and appreciate you sharing the recipes with us. I am doing dry mixes and using old spaghetti sauce jars for the meals. I thought I could use old baby food jars for seasoning mixes. Another idea is using a seal a meal to make segments in the bag and then add your spices, bacon bits and/or croutons and then seal the top. They’d be lightweight if you had to leave your residence in a SHTF situation. I wonder if you could use the sealer for making your own oil, sauce packets. Great for camping. I really think your idea of buying smaller sizes might work well for my situation because it is just me and my oldest son. Then I wouldn’t have to waste a whole jar of mayo if there’s no electricity for the refrigerator. I’d love to see your pantry and how you organize your meal bags. Thanks for all your great ideas!

Kroger and Meijer carry Keystone. In my stores they are always the very bottom shelf.
They are the large size, though.

I was so much thinking about your 1 box, 4 people $75 food box when the fire hit Maui because even though Lahana people are being given food at emergency shelters, towns west of Lahana say they can't get food supplies in and also much of the electricity isn't working......The food might cost a bit more in Maui but I hope you can suggest to The Governor of Hawaii or a food charity to truck in an entire lorry of these boxes with the $20 capstove included, a basic can opener and loads od those butane canisters with recipe cards and then at least families can feed themselves.......Outside Lahana the houses are still standing but everything else is not working......P.S. No, I don't live on Maui but your food boxes was the first thing I though of after the disaster.

I love pasta salad but have developed what allergies. We like to make garden or Cesar salad and top it with chicken or tuna.

There are pastas murder from non wheat ingredients. Just read the label to be sure there is zero wheat. Have you ever eaten spaghetti squash. We prefer that over pasta!

I have eaten spaghetti squash and love it. But I can't find it in Puerto Rico. Some of the stores around me have started carrying gluten free pasta. I had been eating heart of palm as a replacement.

Also don't like texture of canned chicken for salads. Suggest put in pasta water and cook with pasta. Makes it like cooked chicken.

I take a fork to the meat to break it up after i drain it. Canned beef also good in hamburger helpers.

I'd like to see meal in the bag using Zatarain's rice mix .. I use it for a Bojangles chicken and rice bowl imitation
