Call ours "kitchen sink" Chili! Sometimes, if I have things to use up, they just go in! IE carrots 🥕
Scoops sold as "coffee scoops" are quite often equal to 1/8 cup. Thanks for the tip of cooking in the nomad. I have one but don't use it very often. I am excited about individual meals in a jar and will put several of them together to try. The family size ones don't suit my household needs but the individual ones would be perfect.
That's a great tip!! Thank you for that, and thank you for watching! We appreciate you! 😊
These are great I have made 6 of each doing some for Christmas gift thank you!
I use a little bit of Spanish masa that you use to make tortilla 's with as my thickener instead of flour. Also use it in tortilla soup.
As always, fantastic! I truly appreciate that you link everything that you use so we can go find and buy! Which, BTW, I do almost 98% of the time! Can't wait to try the cream cheese chili! Something different for a change! Been pretty sick for a couple of weeks so have missed a couple of your videos but trying to catch up. Also, every one of the channels that you mentioned in your typed intro....I follow them ALL and love each one! Thanks Again!
I haven’t been able to find Chili-O for YEARS! Gonna start looking again. The BEST seasoning mix IMO!! TFS
Hi Jara! Love your podcast and always great info.. Love your meal in a jar. ❤❤❤🌶🌶🌶🌶
Thank you so much Tim!! I appreciate you and I'm glad you enjoy!
Hidden valley sells their ranch powder in a jar .I find it at Walmart by the other salad dressing powder envelopes.
Add to breadcrumb when coating chicken
I ordered more! Thank you for your videos!! ❤️
I bought this chilo on your recommendation my son loved it!
Thanks
That's what my mother used and so did I. I started buying the store brand years ago and forgot about it. Now that I think about it, I haven't seen it either.
🌶🌶 we need to start a Chili-O fan club 😂😂😂. Love your videos. I've been thinking about doing my own instant beans in my freeze dryer, have you done that with yours yet. That would make a great video 😊
Right!!?? Let's get that club started! Lol
We love chili. And we love chili-o, but like you we were having a problem finding it. We will check it out again! Can’t wait til you do the seasonings video! Thank you for all your hard work!
Thank you so much!! Stay tuned 😉
I enjoy the diversity of your recipes, I have a freeze dryer and dehydrator. Your instructions are invaluable in how to use ingredients to make meals quick and nutritional! I just added the Nomad to my Amazon cart, thank you for showing it, been looking for something to use at work other than a microwave. Keep up the great videos.
Glad you like them! Thank you so much for watching!
🌶🌶Great to find you online. Just made my first ever order with ThriveLife. Awaiting the goodies. As 2 seniors I really appreciate smaller jar meals. Anxious to get my pantry filled for winter! Thank you for your hard work putting these videos together!
🌶 These meals in a jar are wonderful, thank you so much for sharing! 😃
I love making chili when the ewather turns cool (it *is going to turn cool, right?). I use Caroll-Shelby's Chili Kits, both regular and White Chicken. The seasonings are in individual packets so you can adjust how mild or hot you want it. I have never seen ( or looed for, honestly) the Chili-o, but may have to try it if the ones I use keep going up in prices. Thanks for sharing your recipies!
@WickedPrepared: Thank you so much for this video and for sharing your recipes, my sister. it will be a privilege to give them a shot, as I absolutely adore having pre-cooked and packaged homemade dishes that come together in no time onhand.
By way of giving back, one really inexpensive way of cutting costs is to use TVP, or texturizef vegetable protein. It’s very satisfying once you learn how to cook it correctly, and it’s got a really shallow learning curve. and that’s also vegan friendly, and will get a person by if they are struggling with sensitivities to some of the additives in the meats that are available locally.
The big difference between freeze dried and dehydrated foods is the amount of moisture that’s left in it. OK, there are nutrition differences as well, as well as texture and colour differences, but the big selling point is the shelf life.
So if you’re going through the expense to buy the freeze-dried ingredients, but you’re just putting them in canisters or jars and not vacuum sealing them after or putting moisture absorbers in with them, you’re pretty much letting them absorb whatever moisture content is in the air. You’re reducing your shelf life and defeating one of your major objectives in that, if you’re keeping it in a cannister or a bottle and failing to either vacuum the moist air out or use an oxygen absorber, if you’ve got a 40% humidity environment where you are, then it’s not gonna be too much time before the contents of that cannister are at 40% humidity.
I realized after the fact that I got a bit run-on with my sentence there, although I think it’s otherwise grammatically correct. My apologies for that.
I am really looking forward to your dehydrated meals in the jar. These are really cool but I don't have a lot of money. So Freeze dried food is a little bit harder for me to afford.😊
Thank you for videos. I'm learning more. I've been prepping since I was a kid.
I have a suggestion to try for a challenge. Some of us have nightshade allergies which for me includes tomato. If possible can you come up with meal suggestions that doesn't include tomato or nightshade?
Thank you 🌶️
🌶️🌶️🌶️
The meals look delicious 😋 that presto, I believe it was, warmer that you used. if they're not available anymore I'll have to look at my brand I bought like 12 of them and gave some out as gifts and like you said they don't say they cook food but you can warm food in it however you're right.. if it's something that doesn't require much cooking, you can actually cook in it and it uses a lot of less electricity and you're doing everything at one time there is less clean up. I'm not sure if the one I use is specifically for certain size jars or not as I haven't used it in a while since I retired as an RN in 2021 so I'd have to look at that but I'll post later if the one that you use is no longer available for those who would like to use something like that. Thanks again for taking the time to show the meals and how to cook them. I thought while you were cooking, I could smell them from here lol.
🤠🌴💕🦋🌶️
You are an inspiration! Thank you. 🌶️
Wow, thank you! That's so nice of you to say!
Get the diced and run them through the food processor and store like you do brown sugar.
Thank you for sharing this. 🌶️

"Wicked" is a New England thing! Can't wait to meet you next month! ❤
Thanks for sharing your recipes for MIJ’s! I love Thrive Life foods and the recipes are wonderful. I appreciate your great channel! 😊❤
Hey there, I'm hoping you'll see this. I'm working on compiling some testimonials for my website ... would it be OK with you if I use your comment? It would appear just like it does here on RUclips, I just wanted to see if that'd be OK with you.
@@wickedprepared Of course!! Thanks for asking. Thrive is great food, plain and simple! :)
Thank you!!
I love meals in a bag! They are my favorites!
Me too!!!! 😀💯
Love these ideas
I just acquired a dehydrator at a flea mkt for $6. Tried it for the first time and it works great! Gonna try other things today 😊
Sounds great!
That cream cheese chicken chili looks absolutely delicious
It definitely is!! 😊😊😊 So good!
Ordered my sour cream case on Friday. Can’t wait to get it
Love these chilli recipes Jara. TYVM. 🌶🌶🌶
I dehydrate tomato paste and it makes an awesome powder.
🌶 Thanks for all the great videos.
Love your ideas. Husband is celiac. Looked up a recipe for copy-cat recipe for chili-o!
Thank you so much!!
White beans would be pretty in the creamy chicken chili.
That was so super interesting
I'm glad you enjoyed!! ☺️
Another great video! 🌶️
Thank you!! I appreciate you watching!
Question? I am new to your channel. Glad I found it. Very interesting and inspiring how easy to have shelf stable prepared meals. My question is I am low carb (keto). Have you showed any meals in a jar or could you show suggestions for the low carb lifestyles? Woulds so sppreciate it
I haven't done a whole lot of low carb or keto recipes yet but I'm hoping to do some soon! Actually that is my preferred way of eating also! If you check out this video ruclips.net/video/oVCOOcS92ww/видео.html
The frittata I did without the beans should be low carb. I haven't done the macros on it yet but I intend to. It's all eggs, cheese, veggies and meat though! But I am planning on doing more like that; I'm planning a video soon with a zuppa toscana meal in a jar and I'm planning to do a low carb version with cauliflower in place of potatoes And a few other swaps! Stay tuned!
I wonder if, (when you get a pack of new tomato powder, or make your own) if mixing through Arrowroot powder would help prevent clumping? Arrowroot is recommended for other dried foods that have this tendency...?
I’ve never tried the Chili O seasoning mix but I certainly will now if I can find it. So is the amount of Chili O you used in each jar equal to one envelope? Thanks! Love your meals in jars and a huge thank you for providing the printables!❤
It's not equal to one pouch, that's why I dumped several pouches into the jar for easier measuring but I have also scooped right from the packet before!
Hi Jara!! I bought the Chili-O seasonings from Amazon. Thank you very much!! My question for you is, my guy friend does not like anything tomato!! What would you suggest using instead of the tomato products???? Help please!!!
🌶🌶 Hello from Bangor ME 🌻 Just found your channel, awesome content!! Thank you so much!
We are in Texas and grew up on Chili-o. 🌶️
Hi loving your channel😊 I am new to your channel so I have a couple of questions. Do you use any other brands than Thrive? I would be interested in your opinion on brands and what I can buy in Canada that would be comparable to thrive brand that you use? Also I was wondering about cost per meal?
I can see the value in less waste or spoiled products, save on prep time( peeling and chopping) You have opened a new avenue to ready made meals. Thank you
Could this be stored in a Mylar quart bag for longer storage? If so do you have a guess on how long it would last with an absorber?
Hi there! Yes, these could definitely be stored in Mylar and I would say, with an absorber, 5-8 years without any problems. Or maybe even longer!
Oh, I love these meals in a jar!!! Could you send me a link for the canisters you use? It just makes it easier for me since I cannot see the links and my phone won’t tap on it right because of my voiceover. Thank you.
Sure thing! This is the link to the canisters: goto.walmart.com/4PoQZ3
Is that a regional thing to call hamburger "hamburg" instead?? I've been cooking over 45 years, and I've never heard of anyone calling it "hamburg" , and I've never heard of Chili-O. I make my own chili seasoning, and have even won a couple of chili cookoffs, LOL! I'll have to check my grocery store for Chili-O. I'm wanting to try it now. Thanks!
Haha! Yes I think it is a regional thing, or possibly just a Maine thing hahaha.
Is there another item like the presto mason warmer?
What type of stacking canisters do you have on the counter behind you? They’re exactly what I’m looking for!
This is the link to my canisters right here: goto.walmart.com/4PoQZ3
Do you have a tecope for the vream vheese chicken that doesnt use FD and instant? Im new
We like Chili Quik ,I live in Texas and it has become hard to impossible to find now
I've never heard of that one!
❤
Do you have your recipes available that I could screen shot or print, so I have it when I make your meals in the jars. I love your ideas!
Aww thank you so much! I have pretty much all of my recipes on my website, in printable form 😊 sites.google.com/wickedprepared.com/wickedprepared/printables-recipes?authuser=0
🌶 Always look forward to your meal in a jar videos!!
Hey, Jara, that cornbread looked amazing! I couldn't find the recipe for it, however. Will you share it, please? And thank you!! 🌶
Here it is! ruclips.net/video/0BRlwQrCygo/видео.html
@@wickedprepared Thank you! I can't wait to make one of these chilis along with the cornbread - one of my 91-year-old mom's favorite meals!! ♥
How long does the butane usually last?
Yummy!🌶
Thank you 😋
I like mashed potatoes topped with chili.
How many servings are there in a jar please?
👍😊❣️
Thanks again for helping us become "Wicked Prepared!"🌶
My pleasure!!! 😊 Thank you for watching!!!
Not disagreeing that Thrives bullion is better/ cleaner, but maltodextrin is still a no no. 😢 And sadly, it’s in about everything.
I mention this because, it’s the number two ingredient so there’s a lot in there. 😢
Didn't see the recipe for the cornbread in the description
Being single and living alone I like to make these up in single serving meals but I don't see the number servings on the recipes.
On the quart jars I usually get 3-5 servings depending on who I am feeding and what else I'm serving. The smaller jar is a good single serving and it's 1/4 of the larger jar.
@@wickedprepared Thank you that gives me a start point!
🌶️
Thank you!!
🌶
Could you use Tomato boullion instead of powdered tomatoes?
That wouldn't really work well because the tomato bouillon has a lot more salt and a lot less tomato than the tomato powder. The tomato powder is pure tomato, nothing else.
Could one just make the chili with fresh ingredients and just freeze dry it from there? Are there any downside to doing this? Thanks for the video.
Yes you could that's another way for sure but not everyone has a freeze dryer. And some people like to put together jars like this for gifts etc as well. But as they say there's more than one way to skin a cat!
@@wickedprepared Thanks!
Where can I found dry veloute sauce?
Here is is: wickedprepared.thrivelife.com/veloute-2766.html

Thank you for watching!
What's the difference between freeze-dried and dehydrated how do you freeze dry something I have a friend who's going to get me a dehydrator and I'm going to try it out but I have never ever done it in my life but I would also like to know how to freeze-dry something do you need a special machine or something like that and how do you do it I've never heard of that before I am going to try and dehydrate some stuff in the future I'm in the process of moving so after I move I will try but it would be my very very first time so I don't know how it's going to come out but how do you freeze dry something and do you need something special special machine or something to do that and where do you get all of your freeze-dried ingredients dehydrated ingredients and is it very expensive to get freeze-dried ingredients and dehydrated ingredients or is it just cheaper to get the ingredients in the grocery store I'm just asking because I am on a very small fixed budget and I'm disabled senior citizen very recently my husband passed away so I'm all alone by myself I'm disabled to the point where I can barely stand long enough to cook a meal and I just came across your videos and started watching and would love to learn as much as I can from you you are awesome and I love the way you described everything and you don't leave anything out every detail you include and you even show not only had to put things together but how to cook it and I appreciate that very much I know I'm going to learn a lot from you and I appreciate your videos and what you're doing not only for me but for a lot of people out here we're going to benefit from your videos and your knowledge thank you so much and if you don't mind me asking how did you learn how to cook like this how to put these type of specific ingredients together like freeze-dried and dehydrated ingredients together and make meals how did you learn how to cook like this how did you learn this way and these techniques I'm just curious but it is very beneficial I know for me it is thank you and God bless. 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Hi Mary,
This is a good video to explain the difference between dehydrated and freeze dried foods. ruclips.net/video/3WPfW7rUJ6g/видео.html
You do need a special machine to freeze dry things yourself. Freeze dried foods can be a bit spendy whether you do it yourself or purchase them because freeze drying is a pretty costly and energy intensive process. But a lot of people in your situation do like using it because it makes cooking physically easier since the peeling and chopping and preparing is already done. Also because the food is shelf stable so it's easier to use a small amount and save the rest for later even if it's just a tablespoon or two of meat or vegetable for a single serving recipe for example. We always recommend shopping during big sales like the one going on now as the most budget friendly way to do it. But if you are getting a dehydrator gifted to you that will be a wonderful option for you. Many things can be dehydrated and I'm going to be working on some dehydrated-only jar meal recipes as well!
Hi. You say meals in a jar last a long time but how many years will it be good for?
There are a lot of factors but usually if they're sealed up with an oxygen absorber, they should last at least eight years on the shelf, if they're kept in a dark place. that could change if you used any ingredients that have a considerably shorter shelf life than the typical ingredients. I have had some that I never got an oxygen absorber into. And they sat on the shelf for over a year and were just fine. I haven't tested any longer than that without an OA.
Thank you for your reply. Does the same go for Mylar bags with an oxygen absorber?
Sorry, I didn’t tell you I’m using these for my emergency bags so I’m trying to see which would work better. The ready made bags or the making them in a mason jar to last a long period of time.
Did i miss the servings size?.
On the quart jars I usually get 3-5 servings depending on who I am feeding and what else I'm serving. The smaller jar is a good single serving and it's 1/4 of the larger jar.
instead of jars can't we use seal a meal bags
Are the seal a meal bags the same as food saver bags? Those aren't completely impermeable so they aren't great for long term storage but could definitely be used for shorter term storage. Mylar bags would be appropriate for long term storage so you could make meals in bags for sure! 😊
do you make your on sour cream powder?
I haven't yet I purchase it but I'm planning to do some sour cream in the freeze dryer when I get a chance!
@wickedprepared yes I guess I will try to freeze dry also. thank you
This is probably a dumb question but do you mean hamburger? Or is hamburg some other product. I realize this is freeze dried.
I'm sorry, it's ground beef...I just call it hamburg 🤣😔 And not a dumb question at all!
❤🌶
The next challenge is to downsize the recipe to fit into a 4 ounce miniature Mason jar.
