Oh one other thing...lol...those dinners like the Hormel type, the ready rice packs...I learned through a power outage, if you set them on the dashboard of your car in the sun, they heat up really well!
We have wildfires here. One a few years ago was close to hundreds of homes and these folks had ten minutes to leave. Being prepared helped a lot of them through a very hard time.
That was us also in Washington State. The fire was just a couple streets over from us. The smoke was bad had to evacuate to the ocean so I could breathe. My friends weren't allowed back to their home until fire was under control. Two different fires.
Dollar Tree carries flavored creamer in miniature containers like the shelf-stable milk. I think they have vanilla and hazelnut. I found powdered half and half online, as well. The coffee needs all the good things. Do not mess with the coffee☕️☕️
Something to think about.... before you pack up your items, find the soonest expiry date from those items you're about to seal. Mark that date and the date you packed everything on your bag. Then pack up your bag and seal it. That way, you have an idea about the freshness of what you packed and what needs to be used first. It might not be so important with a big family that uses things quickly. But for just a single person or a couple, it might be helpful. Plus, even with kids, things might get moved around and misplaced accidentally, and a date might go by without being noticed. This will at least give you an idea of those items about to expire and need to be used first without breaking open a sealed bag. Plus, I liked the idea of adding a folded Ziploc bag. Brilliant 👏 👏 👏
Oh, my! So many choices! I could watch you put these together all day. I'm glad that y'all caught the mac and cheese bursting. That could have been a nasty surprise down the road! When I vacuum seal things like rice, flour, pasta, I cut a small slit in the original wrapping and when I vacuum seal, it also vacuum seals the food in the wrapper. That way I have the cooking instructions, nutritional info, etc. I know that wouldn't work on so many small items to be used over the period of a day, but thought I'd pass it along for larger items that you use your Food Saver for. And those heaters are so neat!
I would probably add an empty gallon or quart size ziplock bag into the mre pack, because after you cut it open, you don’t have any way to keep everything together 😊
I have several meals I made with the ready rice I paired some with flavored chicken and the red beans and rice a few meat sticks those are my favorite. With the MRE heaters add an extra salt packet to the heater it helps boost older heaters.
Great video with good ideas. I’m probably just going to use gallon freezer bags for mine and seal them with my vacuum sealer. I’m going to try to make them calorie dense with more protein. Other suggestions would be flavored whey protein powder to go in with the oatmeal and a dried fruit. Love the idea of a yogurt pack! Lunch would be ready rice + flavored tuna for a cheaper option, You could do ramen noodles + add low sodium soy sauce or teriyaki or orange sauce packets, a packet of peanut butter, chilli flakes and a packet of oil which you can get from restaurant supply stores. Club crackers with peanut butter and jelly or honey might be a good option for the kids. Granola bars tend to go rancid within a year. So I would probably opt for Rice Krispie bars. You could also make your own packets of seasoning using your sealer. I used to make tubes for sample when I sold Mary Kay cosmetics. Same idea. Even water could be used but you have to be careful sealing those.Gum, hard candy, tictacs, or fruit snacks might be good options since I am planning to make some for keeping in the car. No chocolate mess. I was wondering if you could use a tortilla warmer for heating the food. I also wonder if hand warmers/body warmers would work for heating up meals inside a bag that is used for baking potatoes in the microwave microwave. I might try that. I think another thing I might add is hand sanitizer wipes and a mask and a glow stick for light. So many possibilities. Thanks for sharing!
Good video! Make what your family will eat!! Add the creamer to the coco powder packet and just enough water to make "combat pudding". If you add the coffee you have mocha cream. IMHO, tasters choice is better than folgers, no creamer or sugar needed. But they both definitely taste better than, "Coffee, instant , type 2, vitamin C fortified." .
Thank you for doing this video. As a single pareng with three freeze dried foods is very expensive here in Canada so being able to purchase store items is a plus.
Fantastic video, thank you for all of these great ideas! For my family I would use large sized freezer (thick) ziploc-type bags for the outside, and then for powdered milk or other loose items inside I would use the tiny snack sized ziploc-type bags. Here in AZ we can't keep anything like this in our cars or garages due to the desert heat, so these would just go in our emergency kits inside, or in a plastic tote on a shelf next to them. I would also stack water jugs next to them to be grabbed quickly! 🎒
"Backpack " 😊 I'm seeing this for meal preparation for work or quick healthy choices when tired after work. The day is planned, so we won't have to make those decisions in a hurry . And, If I scan and track with weight watchers , I'll keep within my points. Thanks!
I thought about using the idea for work lunches. I gave that 6 days a week. I get tired of making the decision on what to feed hubby. Maybe I should encourage his participation!
🎒🎒🎒 Wowie Zowie!! Super helpful video. So many workable ideas. That super duper vacuum packer is an amazing machine! Sorry I can't remember its name. Many thanks for this video!
This is one of the better home made MRE videos because you've added fruits and veggies to the packs. They're essential, not just luxury. To cook, I have a 12 volt lunchbox my brother got me for my birthday. Works BEAUTIFULLY! I also found 12 volt coffee cups at DG one year, so I grabbed one for me and others for Christmas gifts. They work spectacular for hot drinks or soups. For my "kitchen/travel box" I include flatware (WM 4/$1, plastic plates/bowls/cups 50cents each), DT cutting board, can opener and knives and so on. Much easier than "darn I wish I'd remembered that [insert item here]. My DG has velveeta cheese pkts in single servings for $1- a great comfort addition to ramen.
I absolutely love the kippered herring! Another good canned meat choice! I also love the Kopiko 3-in1 coffee, as well as tea bag style coffee for a fresher flavor . I usually find them in 30 single pack pkgs. Love your ideas!
I still remember the C-rations, which predated MREs and consisted mostly of food in cans. Still have my trusty old P-38 can opener. It's on my Keychain and has come in handy numerous times such as when the electric can opener at work broke when we were trying to open a #5 can of hot fudge topping for ice cream. 😅
Such a very informative video. I’m definitely going to get started making some of these and squirrel them away. A little bit of this and a little bit of that equals a complete days meals.😉🎒Thank you!
The ramen noodles will cook well just by adding hot water and seasoning pouch in to a saved zip pouch I saved a mini Reese cup and used it and I do the same with instant rice too.
To keep my lunch time from being consumed by 3-4 min in the microwave, I used to add cold water to my noodles in a container and let it sit in it when the time came to eat it usually 10 minutes I just popped it in for 90 seconds. Cold noodles actually weren’t bad tasting either. And it still made them soft. So it can be done
🤣 I don't know, I guess I was just thinking of like a tea cozy, to keep heat in.. where a coozie keeps things cool 🤔 maybe? Idk it makes sense to me 🤣🤣🤣
In Alaska, we have some hard tack crackers that we buy (really popular with Alaskan natives) and they are called Sailor Boy Pilot Bread. They are similar to the large round hard tack crackers in the MRE’s. They are not sold everywhere but I believe you can google where to buy them. There is another brand called “Future Essentials” but I’ve not tried those. Anyhow, the pilot bread is great with spam, tuna, peanut butter, etc… we take it everywhere up here!!
I eat the tuna rice bowls cold all the time. Also be careful with condiments from to go places. No dates on packages but they do go bad. I try to rotate them every six months . Mustard and vinegars are more stable
Just found your channel and have learned all about pre wrapped foods. Originally am from LA Maine but now in Fl. Being a new prepper I’m trying to learn as much as I can. I love your ideas. We are the bug out location for family of 14 ppl +. Thank you for your ideas.
Great video! I would like to pack 1 meal packs with a name on it, and what meal, if I was making it. I just think it would be less confusing for me. If I was bugging out with my family I would already be nervous about everything. I would need to have it simple so I wouldn't freak out and start crying, and getting all frustrated. I'm not great with stress. LOL
Whatever will cut down on your stress is definitely the way to go! Check out this playlist we have some "meals in a bag" as we call them and you could do all your meals like this! Emergency Meal Kits: ruclips.net/p/PL-sp4L-Y4c5Bwg58lZIg3mv0lFln8PCQR
I'm in Texas and these homemade MREs would have come in handy during that nasty deep freeze we had. News sources have said that it is quite possible that we might experience such a winter storm again this year because of El Nino. I hope our electric grid is better prepared this time. But I will definitely be making some of these, just in case. I like that you did not edit out the mishaps from your video because that keeps us from making the same mistakes. 😊❤
backpackemoji - this was great, possibly too much in those packs. great job collecting the items as well. possibly hard candy as options. honey in straws to replace sugar. you might send this to FEMA and apply as a MRE SUPPLIER. You have skills put them to work for our nation. you could sell these on-line. have fun make money. make a hygiene's kit too: include female products, tooth brush kits and rain ponchos etc. Bread in a can is available.
For someone who doesn't drink more than one thing, double up by giving another of the same thing, different flavor, because that person needs liquid too and you don't want to jip someone of liquids when you're in an emergency. One MRE that I had (professional, I bought it), had actual matches in it. Apparently for soldiers who smoked? It's always good to have a second source of light or heat. Chocolate candy is popular, as is instant coffee, but I don't care about coffee, give me decaf tea. Everyone is different, but they Kcal count on MRE's is about 2000 expected to last a whole day for a soldier on the march. There is M&M's, hard tack, peanut butter, cheese, etc. If you're really careful you can use the heaters to help warm your hands, but be extremely careful. They can also explode when they're wet, so watch the heaters NEVER drink the liquid out of a heater. The problem with cookies and crackers is that they can crumble. Maybe that's why MRE's have so much wax in the food? Now I remember, those light sticks, they may have one of those, I don't remember for sure.
With the AVID ARMOR you can turn the setting down to 20 or 30 and accomplish the same as the FoodSaver. I use it to seal quart jars with FD items laid on their side and the lid loosely held on with the ring set on about 30.
Hey J and R, Great as always.. A lobsta dinnah mre?? For those date night dinnahs in SHTF..Couple claws n tail , corn on cob , cup "o" lobsta bisque , couple of potatoes , pound of little necks , a freeze dried bottle of Chablis..Just like your on va-cay in K-Bunkport .. What ya think?? A week o rain coming up..Well no drought this summa..
For a heater cozie, have you tried the hot or cold bags from the dollar store? I know they are great at keeping stuff cold. Might need to remove the plastic handles as they are quite large.
Loma Linda was/is Seventh Day Adventist owned, delicious stuff that confirmed meat eaters will like to eat. One consideration to SHTF foods is to pack what that person will want to eat! Panic situations are NOT the time to try new tastes. Make sure your people will eat Vienna sausages or deviled ham; many folks won't. If you have clean, cold water, you can divvy up a package of instant pudding and milk powder to make the appropriate needed. Add the right amount of water, seal the Ziploc bag, and squish. Let the bag sit in a cold place for a few minutes and the pudding can be squeezed out of the bag. Began making camping pudding like that in 1975 and it still gets talked about as the highlight of that trip, lol!
Gosh you just reminded me of something from my son's cub scout days...I vaguely remember something like armpit pudding 🤦♀️ lol. And funny you should comment today on the Loma Linda... we're just finishing editing a haul with some of the "old school" Loma Linda canned items like I grew up on...it was Worthington to me back then though but I think they're one and the same! Good stuff...fond memories!
@@wickedprepared Yes, Worthington! Of course. It made me experiment with making my own gluten foods (sort of...edible? In a pinch, lol!) 😜 I liked their mock chicken.
Swedish Wasa flat bread and rice cakes make good substitutes for bread. You can take out what you need from the big pack and vacuum seal them before putting them in the bigger bag with all the other items. What model is your foodsaver? I have an older model that's about ready for replacement and I really like yours.
You can try B&M Brown Bread in a can. If they have it in your grocery store it may be where the baked beans are. Worth buying one and trying it if you’ve never had it.
Yes, we buy big boxes of them at Sam's club. I much prefer them over the powdered creamers. We also keep our leftover condiment packets. I really like the different side sauces from Chick-fil-A and they also have the ketchup dipping containers. Taco Bell has hot sauce in various degrees of heat. Those would go great with small snack bags of tortilla chips. You can use washed and rinsed empty otterpop tubes to fill with shelf stable nacho cheese sauce and seal them shut. So many possibilities to create your own custom MREs.
As a Roofer/Carpenter that was always on the road ,and on a jobsite until the long day was done . I have been accustomed to leaving home with enough food and clothes ect to last me until I could get home.
Stroopwafels, skippy peanut butter individual squeeze packets, Bonne Maman strawberry 1/2 oz squeeze packets, smoothie pouches, individual packets of honey, maybe tea bags, i do enjoy a good cup of mint tea with 1 teaspoon honey and one teaspoon sugar, just the right amount of sweetness on a cold evening or morning, sweet or dill relish packets, or perhaps bacon jerky, hmm maybe plain tuna and crackers, it really depends on what your tastes are, how much work you want to do to put together a quick snack or meal, how far you will be hiking if that's what your using it for, maybe you've planned a fishing excursion that went wrong, different things, different folks, so many things to consider when your putting together a meal bag/mre kit or bug out food bag. And yes, I could go on and on, but I think you get the gist of it.
Out of power for a week for Beryl. They gave out food. I was given a case of papayas and a case of MREs. I couldn't figure out the heating. Ended up heating up an entree with the hot exhaust from the generator LOL. wished I had a small rocket stove since I missed coffee.
Regarding heating some ofcthese items. Don't forget that in some instances your cars dash board will get very hot. While sttending training for a couple of weeks, my son would put his lunch items on his dash for hit lunches.
Oh one other thing...lol...those dinners like the Hormel type, the ready rice packs...I learned through a power outage, if you set them on the dashboard of your car in the sun, they heat up really well!
Ahh very good idea!!
That would work!
I use to heat up mres on the engine.depening where you are I was a Medic I use to use more heaters to keep the IVs from freezing.
I have also found that if you loosely wrap a black cloth around them before you set them in the sun, they will easily heat up even on a cold day.
We have wildfires here. One a few years ago was close to hundreds of homes and these folks had ten minutes to leave. Being prepared helped a lot of them through a very hard time.
Yes, the whole West coast needs to watch this! My parents and Aunt/Uncle had their cars packed but luckily didn't have to evacuate. Terrifying! 😢
That was us also in Washington State. The fire was just a couple streets over from us. The smoke was bad had to evacuate to the ocean so I could breathe. My friends weren't allowed back to their home until fire was under control. Two different fires.
Yeah, I'm not seeing the fire activity this year, like in years past. Hopefully it'll stay this way...

For the powder milk, you can reseal freeze pop packages with food items with your vacuum sealer
Love it! Great to tip!

I buy small baggies in the jewelry dept at Walmart And put 1 baby wipe in each one. Cheap and reusable baggie after the wipe is used.
Smart
What wonderful great ideas! This is so helpful for families.🎒
Thank you so much Connie!
This one is def saved to the archives! 🎉
Thank you so much! We appreciate you!

All it takes, is one nor’easter with a power outage or one hurricane/tropical storm to see how valuable these packages really are.
What is a nor'easter? I have never heard of that before
It's a really bad snow storm...very common in states that get a lot of snow during the winter months.
🎒🎒🎒

Aww thank you so much!
What a wonderful idea, I'm going to make a few.

I save my used instant coffee packs too fill with sugar or creamer. And yes I seal the end with a lighter .
Great video! Great planning! Definitely going to try! Thanks!
Thanks Cheryl!!
This is awesome. I love this! The straws are such a great idea. I'm going to do these for sure. TYVM. 🎒
Thank you for watching Carol!
I just stopped by for ideas but was pretty surprised. You nailed this concept. Even down to including vitamins. Great video

For the instant coffee, I would use the 3 in 1 coffee with the cream and sugar in them. I remember getting some from Malaysia one year.
That sounds good if you like it sweet!
You can just put a pin hole in each of the internal bag then it will seal correctly
With the AVID ARMOR you can turn the setting down to 20 or 30 and accomplish the same as the FoodSaver. I use it to seal quart jars with FD items laid on their side and the lid loosely held on with the ring set on about 30.

For a heater cozie, have you tried the hot or cold bags from the dollar store? I know they are great at keeping stuff cold. Might need to remove the plastic handles as they are quite large.
Pickled sausage, pop tarts, instant grits, little bags of chips or pretzels, or popcorn

In a pinch, lol!) 😜
I liked their mock chicken.
@@ecouturehandmades5166 my mom made stroganoff with the "vegetable stakes" and I loved it! 😍
Sardines are a "superfood". Cheap, nutritious and easily packed.
The milk stick idea is amazing. [Backpack ; ) ]
Thank you Joy! Isn't that neat!?!
Holy mackerel! So cool.
I seal my mylar bags with an old hair straightener...i wonder if that would work for the straws?
So many great ideas! Jim in California
You can get tiny things of coffee Creamer liquid. It looks like what you get at the gas station.
Love your channel ❤
Those milk straws are a great idea!
Wondering if we could use the hand/foot warmers as the ‘heater’ for the homemade MREs. I think I will experiment.
Maybe! It's worth a try! That mre heater got burning hot though- wowza! I'll definitely be doing some more experimenting as well! 🥰
@@wickedprepared ……and…honestly…if you’re making winter packs, those would be an incredibly welcomed addition to the meals regardless.
🎒love the idea of the oatmeal pkg and yogurt. And the chicken bouillon
Thanks Robin!
Wet ones has individual packs now. There was an Ibotta deal for them.
Nice!
That was great. My idea from this is if you have three days included a survival kit.
Awesome idea, i will do this for my family.
I just found your videos today. I am a new subscriber I love these ideas
I am enjoying your meals and jar to
As a Roofer/Carpenter that was always on the road ,and on a jobsite until the long day was done . I have been accustomed to leaving home with enough food and clothes ect to last me until I could get home.
Great Backpack 🎒 ideas!
Thank you!
Love your idea!!!
That's a lot of good ideas.
Thanks!!
🎒Thank you. How do they get into the milk straws?
Great video! Needed to get some made up! 🎒
Thank you!
Excellent video.🎒
Great ideas!

New here, I can see now that I’ll be binge watching ❤
🎒 I enjoyed the video, as usual!
Thank you! We appreciate you watching and checking in!! 😊😊😊
Was in Military ate MRE'S did use canisters with heat tabs to heat prefer to eat warm and used water to add to them
the MRE heaters work well with the entree ( meats or individuals in mylar packs) it will make them boil hot.
I love those bullion packets
28:48 maybe add foil to line the cozy…?
Awesome idea!
Great video...😊
another great video Jara! 🎒
Thank you!

Mylar bags is a great option! 😊

🎒 Great video thanks for the info.
We’re do you get your vitamins pack like that? Thanks again for sharing.
Awesome
Good sets!
Out of power for a week for Beryl. They gave out food. I was given a case of papayas and a case of MREs. I couldn't figure out the heating. Ended up heating up an entree with the hot exhaust from the generator LOL. wished I had a small rocket stove since I missed coffee.
Love this
I’m going to find the wipes for sure!
Awesome! Thank you!!
Regarding heating some ofcthese items. Don't forget that in some instances your cars dash board will get very hot. While sttending training for a couple of weeks, my son would put his lunch items on his dash for hit lunches.
I would be interested in the nutritional breakdown of these packages based on what is printed on each package put inside each homemade MRE
Maybe libe cozy bag with aluminum foil? Just a thought.
