Put a cupcake paper liner on top before vacuum sealing keeps the powder in the jar.
haha I was just about to type that too!
That does not work for me. The jars won't seal. Which is fine because the the powder actually stays in the jars well. It just poofs out a bit when I open it. I normally just put the seasonings on the bottom and then the rice but just forgot to do it in that order today.
Knorr makes a tomato bouillon that I use in Spanish rice. These are all great recipes. Thank you.
Yes! I was just responding to someone else about about that. It's a great option that I've used in other things before. I don't know why I didn't think of it before.
The mexican bullion taste better
I'm in W.Central Nebraska, and yes, I'm having trouble finding granular bouillon. Fortunately, I run a fully functional, stocked pantry as we get brutal Winter storms and ice, and I get restocked for Winter. Mexican and ethnic sections have bouillon and spices much cheaper than the inner shelves.
I normally have the cubes on hand but really wanted the granular here. I'm thinking I might switch the one I stock and I will definitely be getting more of it on my shelves right now.
You can also find the bullion cubes. If not try to order it. I know the Walmart in Chadron has it.💕
Amazon
@@PlowAndPantryHomestead You can actually find recipes for how to make it on RUclips. Or I believe I also bought a pound of Frontier brand from Vitacost (may have been Azure before I quit shopping there but I dont think they carry Frontier anymore either?) Need to see if I can find the chicken flavor.
I would put my spices in a small zip bag so I could rinse my rice. It gets dusty and bugs get in some times. Looks like good idea though
She got it off the internet, those are not her recipes
You could totally do that. Since mine are in glass jars and vacuum sealed, dust and bugs aren't a worry. Many people do like to rinse their rice anyway though, since that removes excess starch and can make the final product fluffier. Putting the spices in a zip bag would be a great way to do it!
@@tabitharobertson4012 While I got inspiration for the original idea of my own rice mixes from the internet, these recipes are mine. I have changed and refined them over the last few years to get them exactly how we like them.
@@tabitharobertson4012 Does it really matter?
Great video.. Im a new subscriber.. Im thinking of using a quart jar, and adding freeze dried meat, and veggies :). thank you
I never thought to make pre seasoned rice myself. In Australia we have a Continental Oriental Fried Rice package that our family loves as a side dish. It has dried peas corn and capsicum in it along with other seasonings. I'd love to try and make that one. I am a new subscriber to your channel and found it through looking up rice dishes.
Oh, that sounds really good... I will have to look that up.
Add a bay leaf for seasoning which is also a pest deterant.
How can bugs get into a sealed jar?
I dried mixed vegetables so that would go very well
Ty for the great mix recipes. Blessings 😊
Thanks for watching and blessings to you as well!
How about a beef mushroom rice?
Ooooohhh that would be good!
Great idea...orzo is the pasta that is in several of the Knorr packages. I'm definitely going to try this!
You are gone have to wash your rice first, because bugs be in rice. And you can't see it with a naked eye, when you get ready to put it in water with that seasoning it's going to be cloudy. Put your seasonings in a little bag, then store it. With an oxygen absorber. What website did you get your recipe from?? Good video though, just a little encouragement. Wash your rice
These will make an excellent addition to the list of homemade food items I gift at Christmas. =)
Great idea!
I would love to have a Greek seasoned rice!
Turmeric is also good for inflammation.
Be sure to add black pepper to get it to work
Mexican bouillon is better imo
I find bulk spices at Indian markets, Asian markets, or Mexican markets. They come in an ugly plastic bag, but I have my own jars for spices. Also wayyyy cheaper than walmart
QUESTION:::
CAN YOU CHANGE THE RICE TO EGG NOODLES TOO???
JUST A THOUGHT
First time watching you. So thankful you had recipes written down, so i could watch while you did them. Interested in your Soup Mix link but couldnt find it. Thanks for the great info.
Hello, these are such a great idea to have one hand! Thank you.
Thank you!
Great video. I would have liked having a little closer view to see you working on the mixes. I will definitely be trying your combination.

Thank you for the great recipes.❤
I can (could the last time I tried) find tomato bullion with chicken flavor cubes at my Wal-Mart in the Hispanic section. It's labeled Caldo de Tomate. I think it would work just great to replace the chicken bullion and tomato powder in the Spanish rice recipe. I don't know that I would use enough tomato powder to make it economical for us to purchase that, but the recipe sounds intriguing and I've used the Spanish rice mix on vacation before, so I plan to give it a shot with the tomato bullion! Thanks for sharing all these ideas!
Do you think there would be a ratio/ mix/ flavor concentration problem if you made a bigger jar full and just shook it up and used a portion for the amount you need at your meal? (Obviously adjusting the amount of water to match your rice.)
I am very familiar with Caldo de Tomate and I think that would work great! (I wish I would have thought of that). I think making a bigger jar would work as long as there is enough air space to remix it very well when you shake it because otherwise the majority of the seasonings would be concentrated on the bottom half.
Can you use bouillon cubes? I’m guessing yes. Can’t wait to try these!
Yes you can! I prefer to use the granulated because sometimes the cube doesn't break down all the way during cooking and then it's really concentrated in one area. But I have also successfully used bouillon cubes that I crushed before adding when that's what I had on hand.
My wife is fixing a "ricearoni" box for tonight's supper and I came out to see what was on RUclips and this video popped up. Going to Walmart in the morning for 1/2 pint jars. It is just the 2 of us and 1 1/2 cups of rice would last us all week! Thanks for the ideas!
Wal Mart has been spotty on almost everything here lately and like you we are doing a lot more shopping on the Hispanic aisle.
I live in Canada and noticed today at our big walmart the "ethnic" isle now has huge tubs of various boullions and broth mixes. Excellent for prepping and much better priced than the domestic brands.
How about a Red Beans and Rice?
I think the dry beans would cook longer than the rice wouldn't that make for a very mushy rice?
You need to use a different type of 'dry' bean that has been cooked, then dehydrated. That way your beans and rice need the same amount of cooking time.
In Australia we have Rice A Riso, which is a blend of Rice & Risoni Pasta
Looking forward to making your Rice Recipes to have on my shelves
I had to look up risoni pasta. It looks like what we call orzo. I hope you enjoy the recipes!
Can I make these rice mixes with instant rice ? I probably wouldn’t put it in my instant pot. It probably just needs to sit in boiling water according to the directions. Would that work still with the seasonings?
It should still work fine! And yes, just make it according to your package directions.
I have buttered powder. Do you know about how much to add?
My same question
Thank you for the rice mixes. A lot cheaper than buying those envelopes.
Do you have to vacum seal your jars? I have some plastic jars with lids that I was thinking about using instead.
These are awesome! They will be welcome additions to my pantry...thank you!
I will try them all. I appreciate you letting us know when you have tried them and found them to be good. I've tried some other channels suggestions and wondered if they had ever tried eating it!😅
Great recipes.NOTE- I was told to add pepper when using turmeric to recipes. God bless you from grandma Katie in Oregon😊
Same! That's why I do it! I've had that happen with blog recipes too. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy them!
@@katievdbshsh757 You can! Pepper is supposed to increase the body's ability to absorb the beneficial compounds in the turmeric. Thanks for the remider!
I am interested to try some homemade rice mixes. Do you just boil all of them in water and none of them are browned in butter in the pan like Rice a Roni? I used to do some with plain long grain rice but now I stock basmati and jasmine so I wonder how those would taste with the mixes.
I just boil them and haven't noticed a real difference. I get a little nervous about browning them with the spices already in them, but i suppose you could keep them separated with a small baggie in the jar, or just make the spices and measure out the rice when you're cooking.
It is recommended in some recipes to bloom the spices. First , heating up spices in oil releases fat-soluble flavor compounds contained within spices and herbs. Second, adding spices to cooking oil will distribute their flavor far more efficiently in the finished dish than either adding them to the liquid component or adding them at the end. Just keep in mind the ground spices burn easily. Keep the oil not too hot and under two minutes. I think you could give it a try.❤
When I not rushed, I brown my white rice in butter regardless of what I am making and add my seasoning such as chopped onions, minced garlic and any fresh seasonings at the same time.
This is great! Thank you so much for this video. How many servings approximately is the jr that you are making in the video?
I do something similar to your prep. I will pre measure spice blends from scratch for my regularly made fave recipes. I label each accordingly.
If you love the popular Oriential rice, the key flavor is nearly exactly found in Vegetable bullion cubes. Found out by accident years ago.
It all sounds delicious! I am curious if you have ever tried Bell's seasoning for your chicken and poultry and mushroom dishes? I also make a great seasoning from wild carrot seed AKA queen Anne's Lace seed? I collect it when it has green color still in the seed heads, I collect it dehydrate and grind it. I use it in most meat dishes and in my rubs.
Thanks, I love flavored Rice. Packages from the store are way too poluted for my taste anymore. I have been looking for Rice Spice Mix Recipes. Oh, new here and subscribed😊
Hi, first time at your channel. Love the idea and plan on doing it soon. I’ve subscribed and look forward to watching your videos. 😊😊
That was fascinating! Thank you, I'm definitley going to try making my own rice a roni (I have never actually ever bought the stuff but I love rice and pasta so, why not?).... Right now in fact! 😄
Your window is washing you out. If it's possible to stand on the other side of the counter so the natural light of your window is lighting up you and what you are doing would be helpful. Your audience would see you better. I loved all your recipes and I can't wait to try them.❤
Just found your channel and I love these mixes. You have several recipes I haven’t seen so that’s exactly what I need to add to my pantry. It’s just me so I do the half pint jars. Thanks again new subscriber!
Im confused on the chicken powder. It is one teaspoon per cup of liquid to make. That means when you added 3 tablespoons that was enough to make 9 cups of liquid. That seems like alot for one jar of rice. Ideas were great though. Will try with a few tweaks.
Yum, these are definitely in my todo list. Thanks so much!
I love this idea but we always rinse our rice first. So. I think what I will do is get those tiny jars and just put the spice mixes in them and store them in the pantry next to the rice. Thanks for the recipes.
My husband like that knoor beef flavor rice, I have not been able to find it. I will try your recipe. I love Spanish and chicken rice. Thanks for the video
Awesome video! Thank you so much for sharing these homemade mix rice recipes. I’m excited to try them 🥰.

How much vermicelli would you add? Thanks
This is awesome. I have been wanting to create rice like this but finding the time to create recipes with all the other things I want to create I wind up never doing anything! Thank you for taking one thing off my plate to do!!
Hello, I'm New to your channel. What a great idea . Thanks for sharing! 😊
I like this idea but when do you wash/rinse your rice before cooking?
old fashion dutch over if camping is one cup rice to three cups of water for brown rice. and one rice to three of water is standard for the dutch oven even if white rice old school. Great idea. also a bay leaf in jars and no storage issues with rice, beans or a variety of flours.
I’ll have to come back because I really want to watch this !!
I really enjoyed this! Thank you😊
Thanks for the recipes…excellent ❤❤❤
All involved should be prosecute.
What a great idea. Anxious to try them, we eat a lot of rice.
Knorr is the better tasting bouillon, anyway
What a great and useful video!!!
Can you use basmati rice ?😊

I understand youre suppose to wash your rice before you cook it
Some people do, some people don't. If you're concerned about it, you can put your seasoning in a separate container so you can wash your rice before adding it in.
These rice mixes are a great idea! I don't buy any of these mixes at the store but I've seen them and yes, they are pricey and filled with junk.
I am going to put together some of your recipes. Thank you very much 😊
I hope you enjoy them!
I'm having trouble finding bouillon powder that doesn't have MSG in it. Would it work to put in all the seasonings except the bouillon and then just use chicken or beef broth instead of water? For the Spanish rice, would I be able to use tomato juice instead of tomato bouillon?
You can get tomato powder to add with dry ingredients then use broth when cooking
Yes, finding bullion has been hard. We’re in Montana.
I'm in northern New Hampshire and sometimes have trouble getting the bouillon powder. I found the beef, chicken and vegetable bouillon on Amazon, so now I'm well stocked.
I’m a newbie. What was the white thing you used at the end. Does that remove air?
Yes. It’s a vacuum sealer.
You always have great ideas! Thank you
Thank you! ☺
Well that's just a waste of time. You said you are doing it to avoid the anti caking and other ingredients in the flavored rice you buy at the store...yet you add it yourself when adding the bouillon 😅😂 It would be smarter to just add home made chicken/beef broth and other spices when cooking the rice.
I've tried some vegetarian bouillon before when cooking and came up short on the broth I had on hand. I can't say the food tasted any different. I've seen recipes for making vegetarian chicken bouillon, I know it sounds like a contradiction, but the ingredients are at least recognizable without a chemistry degree.
I think it’s a time saver because you’re only getting all the ingredients out once for all the jars you make plus only clean up once. Plus money savings, avoiding allergens, personalized sodium???
I like the idea of just having to add water and cook. Other parts of a meal can be dealt with. Less fuss and muss.
@@plantlady1227I have checked several brands, and most of the powdered bouillon is vegetarian no matter if it is beef, chicken, veggie, etc. I saw a few tutorials on here to make it and it was generally stated that they are vegetarian because it is the seasonings used on those meats, not necessarily the broth.
I love your idea! I wish I could make a copy of the mixes that appear on the “more” side of this video. Wish you could make up a sheet of paper with the info and make it available to download. You cannot copy what is on the right😢. Love your vid!
I take screenshots of the “more” section to either print out a hard copy or save the digital to my files.
