  • In this video, I demonstrate how to activate the workshop mode for the rear electric parking brake on a BMW 5 F10/ F11 Series using a diagnostic tool such as the Launch X-431 or similar devices like ThinkDiag. This process is necessary if you are performing work on the rear brakes, such as changing the brake pads1.
Please note: Workshop mode is specifically intended for brake changes. When activating workshop mode, it’s essential to monitor the brake fluid level to prevent overflow. Once workshop mode is activated, the brakes retract completely, eliminating the need for manual piston retraction. You can then directly remove the wear sensor, pads, saddle holder, and discs1.
Workshop mode simply deactivates the parking brake, allowing you to push the pistons back normally.
