You are starting to think like a BMW engineer. A very useful skill to have. Some BMWs watch the brake pad wear sensor to make you replace it. Unplugging it for 30 seconds gets around that problem.
Well done for the fix. I am surprised the BMW system does not have auto calibration! I understand the Renault system you mentioned, having worked on my brothers Grand Scenic rear brakes. Renault and some other brands have disc only rear brakes, without mini drums in the hubs. They have auto set, so the service mode leaves the parking brake off. The BMW system with the mini drums, the mechanic needs to understand the system like any other car, before doing the work. If only the pads were changed and not the discs, service mode is not needed. If the disc is also replaced, service mode will be needed since the mini drums are on the inner hub of the discs. This may change the gap of the drum shoes to the drums. Same for changing the drum shoes. To play it safe, adjust the drums as Luis did.
The Porsche Cayenne and some of the bigger Veedubs have a similar arrangement. But there's no cables involved, it's an actuator on each side of the car that operates the shoes. The biggest mistake I see is people adjust up the shoes in the usual way E.G adjust up to they lock up then back off. On them you can use the tool and it will show you a set of parameters to set up the adjustment of the shoes. Autel does it well though. There's a bedding in procedure after that, gets done on a quiet stretch of road ideally. As always nice clear video Louis ☺️👌
i remember a colleague of mine did a similar thing with a vw Tuareg, actually put the parking shoes into service mode and not the pads! was a pain in the arse to recalibrate..
You helped me fix mine, but I didn't do it mechanicaly.. there is an option to calibrate it after you clear errors... 5 seconds holding down then release one second the up 1 second.. and it solves it . Anyway thanks
Good question. What I do when I adjusted drums on other cars, is turn the adjustment one direction until the drum sticks on. If shoes doesn't start to touch the drums after a few turns, then go the other way.
You don't know how to adjust the brake shoes? You need to do it through the hole of one of the wheel bolts... I am sure there is tutorials out there on how to do it... Will be quicker than me trying to explain it here... 👍👍👍
OK... So, some have normal shoe/drum for the handbrake, and discs for the pedal brake, and some, have everything on the caliper... if you have everything on the caliper, then this video does not apply...
@@LMAutoRepairs It is definitely the drum and shoes system but i will explain. So everything started after we changed the pads and made the same mistake that you mentioned in the video we activated the workshop mode. After that my handbrake start to do some noises from time to time and give me the parking brake failure on the dashboard. I was thinking is the actuator that is gone then i call an engineer that is repairing them and he recommended the same thing first to try adjusting the shoes. Then i saw your video and everything start to make sense the only problem is i need to find the adjuster. We open the drum and i have a picture but we still didn't locate that. I will open it again Saturday maybe we miss something. But definitely after we activated the workshop mode it started to do the problems so like you said i think the system was expecting new shoes and we didn't replace them and now the actuator is confused.
@robertvede You don't need to dismantle everything... If you know how the adjuster looks like (a quick google search will show you), you will be able to spot it through one of the wheel bolts hole and you slowly turn it around... if that makes sense...
Well, you most likely will need to have it plugged in to either clear the codes and/or understand what might be wrong and causing the light to illuminate...
My parking brake light always come out after resetting many times i do manually release 1times, but the brake still working with the light on bmw x5 e70

Good morning Luis! Great when your theory fixes a fault. Keep up the excellent work 😊

good morning Luis another easy one for you its always worth a try
Absolutely!

Just good common sense thinking good work louis

Thanks!

Was expecting the loud noise that they do when too much travel , lucky there , check the things you can do first as you did👍

Hej
we get many fault (code) and clear with tool. If They don't come back is evey thing ok are no.i clear 30 day before
You've been working on cars for so long that you've begin to think like a machine:)) if-then-else :))
😅

That was a good work, did you reduce the distance inwards or outwards?

Similar to what I do...

where are you based? do you have a garage/website to contact you?
I have the same problem on my bmw now. How did you adjust them manually?

How can I erased the park light in the dashboard???
Have you scanned the car to see what the problem is?
👍👍👍
@LMAutoRepairs not yet but the car runs perfectly
Well, you most likely will need to have it plugged in to either clear the codes and/or understand what might be wrong and causing the light to illuminate...
Maybe also need adaptation for brake pads because module thinks is new ones...
That's crazy something so simple

Have you scanned the car and checked live data?
@@LMAutoRepairs code 6022, i dont know how to use scanner with live data
That if am not mistaken, refers to a wheel speed sensor...
But a tool that can get you into live data could help you further...
Thanks
