Electric Parking Brake

- This was accomplished traditionally using a manual parking brake. With electric park brakes, the driver activates the holding mechanism with a button and the brake pads are then electrically applied onto the rear brakes. This is accomplished by an electronic control unit (ECU) and an actuator mechanism.

My BMW Z4 has electronic parking brake, best system ever. Hill assist is nice feature, but it' reliable, cars 11 years old never had a problem. Never needs adjusting like cable. Pad changes are easy. Can't fault it. No more scrapped knuckles try adjust cables buried behind prop shafts or exhausts.
I need to calculate the braking force of the electronic handbrake. Can you help me?

Can someone PLEASE convince me that EPB's are more reliable than mechanical PB's without using "drivers" as a crutch? I'm not interested in other benefits. Reliability only. I'm having a hard time with why they're pushing these so hard without giving people an option.
cable system benefit/epb disadvantage: you could do a 180 with your car - no more with epb.. *faceplams* - what about tv/film stunt production? do they now need to use special cars for it? (rhetorical question)
Even in the 80s, cars have been rigged so as to make locking the rear brakes for 180 degree turns or drifts easier to manage.
One of the common hacks is removing the ratchet mechanism of a foot operated parking brake. That way, rear brakes can be activated and modulated as required.
Easy to work on.
Excellent 👌👌
And if battery is dead ?
Yeah what happens if the battery just runs out?

When you go to buy a new car make sure it doesn't have this shit on it.
unfortunately good luck finding a new car without it...
I join the previous comment. Good luck finding one in 2023.
I'm having that trouble now, it's a nightmare trying to find what I want with no EPB
Stupid technology. A solution looking for a problem. EPB = waste
