    Leah HOMMA’s flair beam mount is fantastic. Loved when I saw Peng Peng Lee perform the Homma Flairs! Both UCLA Bruins gymnasts from Canada. It is curious why the women performing flairs on floor is not in the code, but okay for men.

      Both Lee and Homma learned the flairs from the same gymnastics club. Both were in sport Sport Seneca, known for innovative skills.

    I'd love to see why the skills were removed, esp the flairs from women's gymnastics. That would be cool to include in a video

    Those standing moves on bars were just amazing. I love the Mukhina flip.
    I didn't know that one showed on the video; pretty nice too.

      Being older, I remember 1972 Munich Olympics when OLGA KORBUT did the “Korbut flip” from the high bar! WOW, we were all in AWE! As a child watching TV, Olga’s gymnastics influenced me to want to be a gymnast like her!

      Sounds awful for the knees though. Knee pivots/balances used to be pretty popular in rhythmic gymnastics, too, but I believe they did away with them partly for that reason.

    • @sethescope

      I think there was a change in the code for 2022-2024 that gave more value to flairs mounts*, so perhaps we'll see more of them!
      *some positive change was made that will hopefully encourage more flairs lol I can't remember exactly what it was. I think perhaps flairs are now considered a turn on beam, in the hopes it will encourage more people to do them as their turn/part of a turn series.

    could you do a video on the difficulty points in the 70s-90s era? i never understood how and why there were difficulty points for different eements back then when they didn’t have a D score to work with (i think?) great and informative video btw!

    • @sethescope
      @sethescope 2 года назад +7

      starting values in that era were the difficulty score, essentially! basically, your start value consisted of the composition requirements + extra skills and/or combining skills. it's just that the start value was capped at 10.0. for example, there were some vaults that didn't have a start value of 10.0, so if your vault or routine only came up to a 9.9 or 9.5 start value, for example, the highest you'd be able to get was that 9.9 or 9.5

      many or most Chinese gymnasts don't use grips! it's definitely uncommon; while I'm no expert, I can't think of any other modern gymnasts who don't use grips, but it's not unheard of. the Chinese gymnasts who don't use a honey mixture on the bars to make them sticky enough to grasp.

    IT IS NOT CALLED A FLIC FLAC IT IS CALLED A BACKHANDSPRING

    • @robbywinslow8948

      People in europe and other countries call a back handspring a flic flac. Its the same thing.

    • @wozziesgirl
      @wozziesgirl 2 года назад +3

      No, it's not. It's called a backflip in most of the English speaking world, but since the US uses that term to refer to back somersaults, which is quite weird because flip usually indicates a vertical force applied off-centre, this channel defaults to the international terminology of FIG, i.e. flic to avoid ambiguity.

    • @shannonrosewiley
      @shannonrosewiley Год назад

      It called both, I hear it call flic flack on foreign boardcast and in the 90's. In recent years it mostly called back handspring.
