@@katie-7972 It's so hard to keep one's center of gravity stable on these. A bit like a washing machine with all the clothes bunched up on one side...it starts rattling and its composure goes straight to h-e-double-hockeystix
The Teza is also worth mentioning. I've never seen anyone but Teza herself perform it. It requires extreme flexibility and is performed on the side of the beam.
Always loved the ring leaps. The code is so strict on them but when you get that perfect one it’s worth it. Gymnastics is all about power and tumbling now. I hope we can see some more showcases of flexibility in the years to come
I wish the code would award more difficulty to dance elements. Gymnastics now is all about tumbling and the “artistic” portion is slowly fading away... Also I feel like the leg at horizontal bent shouldn’t be as difficult as with straight leg but eh whatever
It's not required for the head to touch the back leg so the skill is done correctly even if the gymnast doesn't do that provided she meets all the other actual requirements of the skill.
I agree. I feel like the switch ring should be higher too since you have to be flexible enough to even do it properly and you can't see the beam at all. It's easy for a gymnast to slip or miss the landing. If they bump up the score though, it might encourage more people to do it even with deductions but the judges have been more technically demanding on them now
Great video but it's kind of disappointing that you got Sanne Wevers name wrong, the E in Sanne is not silent. The "unless preformed on accident" with clip of Jordan Chiles wolf turn morphed into an Okino was funny though :)
I love the chinese gymnasts' switch rings, but Anna Pavlova's deserves an honorable mention. The image at 3:40 is exactly what she looked like if you paused one of her switch rings. It was a thing of beauty.
Lol, as much as I like this channel and video, have you ever tried a Johnson 1/2? Sure the sideways landing landing is an added difficulty, but the most difficult part of the skill is trying to hit the split AND complete the 3/4 turn. Unless you get insane height, you either have to pull as sketchy straddle or you have to hit the split but under rotate the twist. It is extremely difficult to turn efficiently when you are in a split, so i would call this the most difficult Leap on Balance Beam.
I‘m so proud to be able to do the switch ring leap on beam. I learned it when I was 14, but I also had to take some bruises 😂I also do a split ring leap and regarding the execution I would say it‘s more difficult than a switch ring leap but i guess that‘s just preference (I struggle with keeping the front leg long enough in horizontal, so when I‘m in the ring the front leg is already falling down)
The switch ring leap and the Okino turn are the best featured here. Though the Sheep jump is my favorite leap. My favorite turn is the triple into an illusion which is a combo.
Tbh when I think of gymnastics, the first picture that comes to my mind is it of a gymnast doing a switch ring..❤❤ but all skills are awesome, I can only dream of doing that on the floor, let alone on a balance beam lol
Agreed. I've seen way more gymnasts do wolf turns than any other turn. They're still difficult though so the judges can at least deduct more for form breaks or a gymnast not starting and finishing the turn consistently
...before the vid... Sheep Ring Olga thingie Deal where you do a back somersault with a 1/2 twist Triple turn w/ leg extended ...just a guess, let's see if it pays off! (Nope, o well 😅) I *love* seeing a well-done switch ring leap.
@Renz yes exactly. Even a single L turn is really hard because the extended leg completely throws off your centre of gravity. The Sukihara maintains centre of gravity in line with the supporting leg which is way better for balance
Although it's different, in dancing, I would say the wevers is easier but only by a little. It might be different on beam though. Maintaining proper placement of your body in the Sugihara is much harder
I think jade has beautiful johnson 1/2. I agree that Switch ring leap is quite difficult and eventhough sheep jump is only C, tbh, it should be moreee.
What ever happened to Ellie blacks beam final routine in 2018 worlds? Her d score was like in the 4s and her routine was about 50 seconds instead of 90
the E limit makes no sense. it discourages creativity making beam routines look so stale and copy paste. the only time a beam routine looks good is when its loaded with combinations which so few ever do. other than that they all look the same.
I've been binge watching these video's lately, haha. Just wanted to mention, please look up how to pronounce a gymnast's name before narrating the video. You kinda butcher Sanne Wevers' name. Great video's anyway!

"Unless it's performed by accident" LOL
Favorite part of the video! Lol 😂
That will forever be a hilarious and memorable moment in gymnastics!’
Ahem ahem Jordan chils loll
Chiles has some of the most incredible saves I have ever seen
That save was something else- and really funny!
What's the connection bonus for a wolf turn into an Okino? 😅
Flavinha has the best switch ring leap in nowdays.
Absolutely! Watching the slow motion of it is even better for me! I love her!!
You know Rebecca Andrade actually has a perfect one too
@@nathanielhalls1893 Rebeca is so flexible.
Anna pavlovas is the best
@@michaelhart7282 Pavlova is retired.
The Wevers is so beautiful
Sanne's Okino at 1:11 is PERFECTION
All I can say is the fewer wolf turns we see the better.
People tend to look like they're always falling over doing this huh? Arms flailing 😬
I like the way they look, but as an ex gymnast, they stress me out!
I like them in floor routines more than on beam
They're extremely difficult.
I don't have feels for them one way or the other, but I'll admit I don't get the animosity surrounding them

Thank you! The Code does not display that skill and I totally forgot about it.
3:35 aliyas switch ring leap is the MOST iconic switch ring leap EVERR its so beautiful
The noises that come put of my mouth whenever I see Aliya's switch ring leap are simply not human. The queen indeed 💕
PERIOT
I loved the intricate handstands gymnasts did back in the days. I hope one day they can make it a requirement.
Always loved the ring leaps. The code is so strict on them but when you get that perfect one it’s worth it. Gymnastics is all about power and tumbling now. I hope we can see some more showcases of flexibility in the years to come
The switch ring leap and the Yang Bo are truly breathtaking
Exato. Só colocam americanas e no máximo chinesas
Switch ring but the one performed by Anna pavlova that was pure beauty
Love the slow motion please do more so we can really appreciate this!
Flávia saraiva have the best jumps of the world.
She is the Queen of ring leep 🇧🇷❤️
i love turns in beams. they're underrated. well except for the wolf turn
I wish the code would award more difficulty to dance elements. Gymnastics now is all about tumbling and the “artistic” portion is slowly fading away... Also I feel like the leg at horizontal bent shouldn’t be as difficult as with straight leg but eh whatever
Sanne Wevers of Dutch won the Olympic Gold based almost on just the Dance elements alone in 2016. Happy for the outcome.
I can absolutely tell that's FLAVIA SARAIVA at 3:27!!! Just BEAUTIFUL!!!
In my opinion, the yang bo is one of the hardest if not the hardest when done correctly the the head actually touches the back leg
Listunova’s ring leap has head touch too
It's not required for the head to touch the back leg so the skill is done correctly even if the gymnast doesn't do that provided she meets all the other actual requirements of the skill.
Huge Yang Bo fan here, I concur
0:26 i just love thia choreo from Musta.
Wolf Jump, the split with a full turn are my favourites
I think the okino should be F rated and a regular 2.5 turn an E.

The original Okino looks like she's break dancing. It looks so cool. 😍
Anna Pavlova’s switch ring 👏

Congrats! Keep working it, you will get there(with the switch), keep up the good work, I am sure you will go far! ❤
I think the Li Li back spin is also worth mentioning, although it's just a D!
Sheep jump: KOMOVA 💯.

The switch ring leap and the Okino turn are the best featured here. Though the Sheep jump is my favorite leap. My favorite turn is the triple into an illusion which is a combo.
Yang Bo and Teza II especially are also super hard
The Johnson Half wasn't mentioned who the gymnast was or her picture shown.

Gomez skill is so cool haha
I actually think the Sugihara is more difficult than the Wevers, but I can't know for sure since I have never tried any of them
for an L turn i guess the difficulty comes from the weight of the leg and balancing while turning. You can hold your leg up for a Y turn.
@Renz yes exactly. Even a single L turn is really hard because the extended leg completely throws off your centre of gravity.
The Sukihara maintains centre of gravity in line with the supporting leg which is way better for balance
I TRY THE WEVERNES, AND IS VERY DIFICULTY TO PERFORM, AFTER THE FIRST TURN ITS HARD TO CONTINUE IN L POSITION.
Although it's different, in dancing, I would say the wevers is easier but only by a little. It might be different on beam though. Maintaining proper placement of your body in the Sugihara is much harder

100 on the Sheep Jump. It's in the same beautiful, deadly family as the Ring Leaps.

Somebody stop the triple wolf turns PLEASE.
Sanne wevers is pronounced more like “Sahnuh way-verse”. Just FYI ☺️
The Mitchell os quite common these days, actually. I saw many gymnasts perform it on beam and on floor.
Isn't Simone the main person who does that one? I don't recall seeing anyone else do it, at least among the US team members.
What is a full turn on beam rated because I randomly whipped one out on accident while I was trying to do a half turn then forgot what I was doing
An A.
Switch ring...it is the symbol used for gymnastics a lot...
Ayyy Whitney bjerkin
What about the Teza II?
Wolf turn , Okina🦋
i'm a bit confused Nastia's wolf jump is considered done with 1-1/2 turns? i always thought that it was just a full twisting wolf jump?
I wrote “missing an extra half turn”. Couldn’t find any footage of the 1 1/2
The Chinese are so precise.
The TEZA II
The Wevers and the Mitchell
Is the Johnson by Shawn or Kathy. You left that part out.
Kathy.
@@gymnasticsmasterclass Thanks.
The rarer the more I like. My favorite of these is the Sugihara 😍
Why not put 7 most difficult skills in the title and show more of the split full? It's very hard
The switch ring is an incredibly beautiful move. IMHO, the others in this list are boring .
the E limit makes no sense. it discourages creativity making beam routines look so stale and copy paste. the only time a beam routine looks good is when its loaded with combinations which so few ever do. other than that they all look the same.
The switch ring should be renamed as "The Pavlova"

She has the 2.5
Split ring no contest

Where’s Flávia Saraiva and switch ring leap?????
Yang Bo
As well as the Teza II which is the Yang Bo sideways on the beam.
Is "E" the highest and "A" the lowest scoring technique?
switch ring and okino
San Wevers? His pronunciation of certain words is way off.

Hold on did he just say a wolf jump 1.5?? That sounds ridiculous
did anyone else see whitney b
Saw-nay Weh-vers. #justsaying

the way this is so wrong
what about sheep jump?
It’s been downgraded to a C since 2017… which is tragic 😩
I myself am a rhythmic gymnast and now that i see it, artistic gymnasts get a lot more points for the same things we do
