I am totally new to Sony and a User Guide video like this one for the a7IV with your fav settings for photography would be awesome and super helpful!!
Love how the day this video comes out is the same exact day my new R6 came in the mail lol
31:41 "Yes, this is long. This is a lot of stuff." And it's appreciated! If someone has a problem with the length of these kinds of videos they can just pause them, go do something else, and watch more later. Or read the manual, or just figure it out themselves.
THANK YOU for taking the time to go in depth like this.
Bought this camera today and I can't express how much this video helped me.
Previously I owned 6D Mark I, that I bought back in 2014.
Original 6D was straight forward, but there's a lot more options in this camera.
Again thank you, Jared, for taking the time to make this informative and, as always, up beat video!
Got a backup R6 today and used this video to set it up, and there's nothing I love more than the John Locke reference.
Great video. You could not even imagine how long I could not understand why menu in my camera has so limited options compared this one at the video. Automatic / Manual mode makes magic
This is just what I needed just got mine yesterday and I'm doing my first shoot today!
I am usually stubborn about reading manuals, but I saw the 850 pager for the R6 and balked. This video is great, a way faster and more pleasant way to get all the important stuff across. Thanks!
This was way more pleasant than reading the manual myself and it forced me to review what I knew instead of just skipping it. Thanks.
Just getting into Photography. Picked up a R6. Jared, THANK YOU for this video. It was very, very helpful!! Amazing content for someone who has not had years of experience with these cameras. Again thank you!
Jared another time that's great for using the screen and not the EVF is when you're dealing with shooting clients who aren't comfortable with cameras. It can help to be more connected with them by not "hiding" behind the camera.
Slso for auto-iso I use this for events with changing lighting and use the top rear wheel to change this when I want to control it up or down quickly and easily. It's the best of both worlds to my mind
Very helpful, thanks! After using a Nikon for so long and recently switching to an r6 I needed all the help with every little button and menu!
I was literally going through this process googling every menu option I didn't know and this popped up as a recommended vid off another one I clicked on and I was so stoked! Thank you so much!!!!!!
Seems tedious. You could have just downloaded the R6 advanced user guide from Canon's site. Also, Roberto V. has a detailed 6-part series on the R5/R6 menus, published last September. One would think a Google search would include the youtube domain.
just watching this pretty much because I just picked up my R6. This was probably be best video of this type I have seen, complete & wonderful to hear at least a short blurb about the job of each menu setting. I know it was long but from my perspective, it was a very good piece. Thank you.
Rented a R6 for a week and this tutorial was extremely helpful! Thank you!
Jared, thanks so much for making this! The plane of focus is important for video, and more specifically when using it for cinema whilst in manual focus. The DOP takes a tape measure and calculates exactly the distance between the camera sensor and the object so that they can nail focus 100% of the time.
Thanks for sharing
I think also for mounting the camera on a mount this can be important to put the sensor exactly above the point of rotation so there is less shift of perspective... (not 100% sure on this though, it is the case for instance with a telescope, you want to mount it like that in a mount too)
Nice video! One thing, a reason to release without lens is if you adapt manual focus analog lenses on your camera
Yup! And it’s a required setting when using any Lensbaby manual lens.
This video is amazing! I have been using the R6 for a year now and had no idea how much I didn’t know. Thank you!
When I bought my Canon 90D, you user guide was the one I watch to learn all about it and found it incredible useful. It was a guide and I then did a lot of experiencing on my own to discover for myself what the camera could do. I am about to buy a mirrorless and the Canon R6 is my camera of choice. Once again I am watching the user guide for the R6 and is again proving to be most helpful. It looks a lot like the 90D menu, and I am saving lots of time selecting the setting which are most helpful with your guide. Thanks for the user guides Jared, saved me time and have taken what I consider some nice pictures, and looking forward to getting the R6. 👍👍😍😍📷📷
I have over the past few weeks watched this video several times. It amazes me the things the R6 will do. Very informative video.
Thanks very much Jared. I've owned my R6 for two months now. This video will help me tweak the settings even more.
Thanks for the tutorial. Just bought the R6M2, and while not exact as there is obviously some changes, it was nevertheless very helpful getting set up and used to the camera. Thanks
If you have any questions, reply here. I just went through mine too; I may know the answer. I assume he's editing a new video for the Mk2 as we speak.
Thanks Jared ) 2 things that happen to me today and might help someone. . Release shutter without lense - good for when adapted old / manual focus lense (camera will just not shoot without enabling it) and manual focus helped me just today to achieve focus on a bird in a cage (that animal eye AF just could not help) nor single point AF.. again thanks
I've had my camera for almost 3 years now. Got it back from sending it in for maintenance and Canon reset everything. I'm lost - it's frustrating, I feel like I'm a first time photographer again. So far the coolest thing you mentioned after 30 seconds is the grip. I've always wondered why a lot of photographers choose to add so much bulk and weight to their camera. Now I know! Batteries! I might have to purchase a grip now.
Long Exposure Noise Reduction doesn’t smug detail. It eliminates hot pixels on exposures longer than a few seconds. This is an absolute must for light landscape photography
Awesome, gonna enjoy watching this! Been loving listen to the daily fro while on nightshift dude! Trying to grow my channel as filming is what I love along with travel! Thank you for being a huge inspiration
Got an R6 today. This video was extremely helpful. I’ll probably be referring back to it several times.
I just bought this camera this week. Very helpful to learn the Menu BIG THANKS!!!
Really timely.. I bought my R6 just over a week ago :)
I love the timing on this! I just ordered an R6 early this morning and am waiting to pick it up after work. Thanks!!!
I know this kind of long videos are not so popular, but this one has been very useful for me. RUclips makes sense this way. Thank you very much.
Just ordered the EOS R6ii Decided to start with this video. Good information. I will be looking at your review of the Mkii also, of course. Big thumbs up from this old wet chemistry BW guy who started with a Kodak Brownie in 1948
1.5 hours! Thank you for the effort. This was very helpful after making the switch to mirrorless.
I really love these slow burner videos. Great Job Jared 😁👍🏻 excited for this video!
The location of the sensor is the plane from which the distance to the plane that is in focus is measured. That can be handy to know for macro photography (do I have enough room here), or perhaps for some video use.
Another use for the sensor plane indicator is panning. You might want to keep the sensor plane right on the pivot spot to minimize any distortions. In good design the tripod mount is also on the same sensor "depth" (as it is in R6), but on some tripod / lens / gimbal setups it might not be, and you benefit from knowing where it is.
Jared, Thank you so much for the video. In Brazil I couldn't find any video with details of the Canon R6's features.
Congratulations on the initiative and the RUclips translation worked very well.
Hey Jared, The sensor plane mark on the camera body is there for serious video people. Someone explained it to me once, but the Hollywood type of video shooters that use the very expensive arri tripod heads are designed so that they can pivot the camera up and down with the pivot point exactly lined up with the sensor plane. It prevents some kind of distortion (see scheimplug principle). Anyway, that is one reason why that mark is on the camera body.
been waiting so long for this, will love watching it.
Read the book 😃
Thank you for the great video. Just got my R6 today and as soon as the battery was charge this video was on.
Super helpful of course, thanks a ton! I chose this video over others because you have such great energy, much appreciated m8!
I know nothing about operating a camera or photography but want a good camera and know how to use it for when i retire next year so thank you for posting this very easy to understand video.
I‘m watching the complete video. Yes the beginning is very very basic. But I love it. I know so many people who come to me and ask so „simple questions“ - and I think it is really helpful for all who doesn’t know Someone or are not brave enough to ask. Great video
.....Greetz from 🇩🇪
Orange Menu, Screen 4 : “Release shutter w/o lens” set to ON when attaching the camera to a telescope via an adapter as the adapter is not recognized as a lens.
Great video I’m currently looking at trading most of my dslr gear to fund a R6 so just doing my research on what’s what with the camera .
So now can’t wait to get my hands on one 👍👍👍
Jared "release shutter without lens" is something you need to enable to allow third party full manual lenses with no electronics.
I use an adapted EF Samyang 14mm lens sometimes and I couldn't use it unless this was on.
Dang, just typed the same thing than saw this.. haha for me samyang 8mm
@@or_not-o8i yah I was shooting astro with a mate on his Eos R and he couldn't figure out why it wouldn't shoot borrowing my lens. This was why.
Fantastic video. Thanks. Great starting point to pause and have a go and then set up to get everything sorted in one go. I’m off to shoot now!
Thank you VERY much Jared. I got my R6 about half a year ago (i loooove it) and was playing around with the settings. That Video helped me to get deeper into the settings and understand them better. cheers from switzerland...
You can never over simplify. I didn't need the first 20-30 minutes of this video but watched it anyway to see how you you approached teaching the basics of the R6 to somebody who is newer to photography. Great job! Your R6 review helped me determine it was the full frame upgrade I wanted to go to from my crop-frame 70D. Not only have I not been disappointed, I have been amazed at the step level increase in technology and capabilities. I am also very happy I watched a prior video of yours that about DSLR versus Mirrorless camera which steered me away from the 5DMK4 or other DSLRs. Mirrorless is the way to go! This setup guide was a great overview BEFORE diving into the product manual. I have a good understanding of all of the menus now. Another fantastic Fro-fest of photographic knowledge!
Thank you
Just got my R6, I’ve seen the full real world review and I’ve been looking for a good guide, so glad you finally uploaded yours!
Hi which lens are you using? I am going to buy the RF 24-105 f4 it’s very underrated especially for Video
@@alphaandomega2709 I went with the 24-105 variable aperture just because of my budget and I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised with its speed and sharpness. Given the sale that's on right now in Canada for the cost its really great for me. However I would assume the f4 would only be that much better.
Thanks Jared for that long video. Just moved from T7i EF 55-250 4.5.6 IS STM and bought today to R6 RF 70-200 2.8L IS USM and used to shoot sport Hockey photographie from Basic to Pro advance technology; I can’t wait in 2 days the next game to shoot it. From your video I set my C1 and just need try it on practice tonight. It was long video but helpful thanks again. Cheers 📸
Just received the R6 today. Ready to absorb information while the batteries are charging 😊
Jared, thank you for making this video. I just got my R6 and didn't know where to start! Now I've been through all the menus for photos (not video yet) and I think I'm good to go... go out and see if the camera does what I'm hoping! I really appreciate the work you've put into making this video.
31:49
Jared great video for all beginners but you had one mistake in it.
Long Exposure noise Reduction.
It works different.
Firstly it will just apply if your exposure is at least a second long.
And then it doesnt apply some noise reduction.
Image you are out in the summer, shooting landscapes or whatever. Your Sensor gets hot.
When you take a picture´the cam will take a second picture after that for the same but with a closed shutter. It will make a so called dark frame. In them the cam will just see black but also the hotpixels because of the overheating.
It will then substract the second image from the first, so it substracts the hotpixels from your image. Thats neat.
Also it applys to raw.
I use it all the time for my single exposure milkyways because it spares me time.
Hope you read my comment one day and reply to it :D
Thanks!
I appreciate you taking the time to go through all the settings. It helped me on several different things and I got great pics from my R6 doing business headshots today. Thank you so much.
Super helpful. I've had my R6 for a year and it's not my first high end camera but was struggling with some options - it was embarrassing to admit!
Thank you Jared! After thumbing through the manual this was exactly what I needed!
Just got my R6 on 7/17/2022. #igotthisfar. This video was very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to make this.
Hey Jared: Even a dumb ash rookie like myself can tell you know your photography are really good at what you do, and are probably very successful at what you do. But what keeps me coming back for more, and why I just signed up (subscribed) today, is because not any of that has gone to you head. Your style is so cool & easy even a simple guy like me gets what you are talking in your videos. Question!! If you were to do a Canon R6 Mark II User's Guide, like your Canon EOS R6 User's Guide video, would they basically be the same? Thanks
Grab the popcorn! This is a good one!
I think the symbol for where the sensor is, is for production companies who have a focus puller. That person can then figure out the exact distance from the sensor to the subject. Don’t know why it’s on these cameras that nails focus anyway but I think it’s just an industry standard at this point.
Awesome video Jared!
Great! These videos are gold, your EOS R one was a great help for a mirrorless newbie back in the day. Will you be making one for the R5 too, or is it pretty much the same thing?
I got this far. Just picked up my new R6. Great video!
The Canon menu systems are pretty intuitive. But for the menu items I was unfamiliar with, thank you!
Having my r6 tomorrow and it was really helpful ! Thanks!
Another great camera setup walk through. I know these are long, but much needed when getting started. Thanks for doing this FroKnows ! btw watch many older walk through from your channel
So useful. Now hands on camera with confidence. Tks!
Switched from Nikon to the Canon R6 just because of this video!
GREAT! Watched the whole thing. Owned the R6 for a few months now shooting mostly ice hockey, lacrosse, and nature. Had knowledge of most of this from other videos, but created my own menu after watching this for my custom settings and a few other menu items that I’m always searching for…format card, WB…THANKS!!
Ice hockey for the win.
@@froknowsphoto Go Leafs Go ;)
Did you get the sports 70-200 or the canon.
Go Pens!!!
it's long because it's supposed to be long. Longer the better. More info the better. If you're ever thinking, "This is too long," admonish yourself. I will get so much more out of my R6 now. thank you.
Thanks Jarrod. Just upgraded from a 6D and this was a great help in setting up. BTW, thanks for all the vids you guys put out. Keep it going .
Wow! So helpful! I can finally find portrait or landscape. Still so much to learn, I may sign up for the 11 day guide. I really need to figure this camera out soon, I am heading out to take pictures of Birds of Prey soon.
just got an R6 and this was super helpful and clear .. cheers bro 🤙🏼
Back button focus is useful in some circumstances. e.g. if photographing birds which the camera eye focus has problems with. And at times the AF decides that it does not approve of the place where you want it to focus on.
When photographing a white ptarmigan with a single dark feather, the AF will be thinking that the dark feather is the eye. Been there done that.
Excellent if you just purchased and want full understanding of all options. Great for initial setup. Helpful even if you thought you knew many of the settings. Great job.
Lovely comprehension of the whole menu. Thank you JP
Release Shutter w/o lense is impotant if you use full manual lenses without electronic contacts, mostly right now trough the adaptor since there are none on the native RF to my knowledge.
Without this set to ON the camera will not shoot because it doesnt know the lense is there. Example: Samyang 14mm f2.8 - a really nice and cheap astro photography lense. (yes there are newer options with contacts but the one i have is the most common one, the others just cost more)
I have wrk to do thank you for the info very helpful. I have a feeling I will be referring to this often till I get use to my new R6
Thanks for starting super basic, when I was starting out I needed tutorial just like this.
Great video 👍 Jared , you explain everything so clearly , I am going to invest in an R 6 very soon .
I'm currently doing a course on event photography , and the R 6 with its Twin card slots and low light ability is just the camera.
Hi Jared please make one for the Canon R7. I picked one up yesterday and would be very helpful for one
great video of course. I wanted to thank you. As one of your neighbor from up north I sure appreciate the maple leaf. I don't know if it was met for us but either way, merci beaucoup!
IBIS mode doesn't show on the menu when you have an IS lens attached.
I feel the need to pay for this course. I guess I'll buy presets as a thank you, and get even more goodies now that I know how to use my camera.
MASSIVE THANK YOU!!
Just ordered my R6 today 😊
Excellent Video .. thank you !! I did what to add though for open shutter without lens , I use this with a Rokinon 14mm 2.8 mechanical lens as it does NOT communicate with the camera, so the open shutter function needs to be on without lens in order to take a picture. Took some time to figure this one out as i thought the lens wasn't going to be compatible with the R6.
So so helpful Jared, thank you so much! I will start following you!!
Thanks for this, Jared. :) I just ordered the R6 and super excited to try it out. :)
I swear the video was so long, pain in the ass. But what can we do. I think you explained everything well. I've used Eos 600D years ago so this new mirrorless Eos 6 had a lots of new things for me and while watching this video I learned to use it a lot better. Im much more confident now to go to shoot my first pictures tomorrow. Thank you!
I have been waiting for this one. I mostly know my way around my R6, but this is going to be a super useful reference.
Right on, thanks for the run through for a quick set up. Much appreciated!
22:30 There actually aren't "a ton of more menu options visible here" I think the screen you are displaying didn't leave the "auto" mode. Still, thanks so much for this in-depth review! I just bought the R6 for my sports shooting, and it is VERY different from my DSLR. I am not a fan of change and learning new things to use my tools for work, so I appreciate your tutorial
Actually, that screen doesn't change. Sorry there.
I am so excited that I stumbled upon your page!
I photograph so many guns with the Canon R6. I also make many videos of shooting guns. It’d great for both!
Had mine since day one of release, I've shot a wedding and other paid jobs. still watching. Might learn
#igotthisfar. Thanks for the detailed walkthrough. Just upgraded to the R6 from the M6 MKII and absolutely loving it!
This video is just perfect thank you so much for making it 👌🏼❤️ just bought mine and your video helped me a lot!!
I'm genuinely excited about this.
Thanks for the video. I just bought the R6, along with the RF24-240. Great bit of gear and learning how to drive it. This certainly helps me.
And two days after I got it, your NEWS Fix.suggests a Mk2 version, although unverified. What I'd like to have is built in GPS. I had to download and install that godawful Canon Connect app in order to bluetooth it to the phone so I can geotag my photos. The 6D2 that I have is less than half the price but has GPS. As for the hotshoe GPS unit, great til you may want to use the flash.
I got this far ... and can't wait to get out there
No mention of CRAW?
I have two back button focus settings. One is eye detection, the other is spot AF. That is ideal for birds/wildlife.
I have also configured the joystick to move the AF point without any other button being pressed.
