  • The AJW OG Potato Launcher is right up Brett’s alley, designed as a shorter length, barrel board for chest high to overhead waves. What’s not the norm for Brett is committing to a quad in boards of this length, as he’s typically a “thruster guy”.
Brett tells us why he loves this board so much, even with his quad fins installed backward, while Trip digs into Brett’s newfound love of quads and asks “Will this be in your next Namibia quiver?”
Video and edit by Jeffrey O'Neil and Cody Hammer.

I've really enjoyed the more general board design and fin talk, rather than just a board review. good stuff. thank you!

Glad Brett mentioned the specific fin placement on this board vs. 5 fin setups. Looks like the pulled in tail helps fang sections in those chunkyboiiiz! Even considering the fin fiasco 🤣
Congratulations to all involved, what an amazing opportunity for you all! Must be actually overwhelming with the choice in that amazing shop haha.
Thanks for the series, really enjoying it, team!

How does the board compare to the Ghost looks like a similar outline??

Thanks for your question, it’s a good one!
These two boards are similar but with subtle differences. The OGPL is meant for barreling chest to a foot or two overhead waves, where many surfers use the Ghost as a step up. They’re both wide point (and thickness) forward, the OGPL carries a touch more width and curve to the tail which is what powers it up in the smaller waves compared to the Ghost.
After riding both, Brett called the OGPL a great dedicated barrel board, whereas the Ghost was a blend of step-up, barrel, and big open-face carver. This content is in both the Under the Glass videos (Episode 4 and 5), so after reading this, go back and take a look at the conversation and clips, and it should make sense.
Any questions or to place an order for either, give us a call at the shop 252-987-6000. Thx! -Trip
