My friend we have much different definitions of light wind. Hahaha. Drove down to Real in Hatteras from NJ to pick up my 8’5” 130 Armstrong DW board on a day trip. Amazing board, love it. Btw if you go down to the shop, you’re not allowed to go into this foil garden unless you’re renting one of their apartments. They’ll send you up to another shop. Odd, but it fits the vibe of yuppies in BMWs, Lexus and Volvos. Not surprising, who’s got 10 - 20k to blow on a hobby like this. I would imagine the locals hate the shop and its clientele. Still glad I drove the 28 hours to pick it up in person though.

The water access at REAL and Watermen’s Retreat is private for our lessons and customers that are staying in our on site accommodations. This is what our insurance will permit. We do have a riding map and our staff provide direction to the best spots for the sessions available. Sorry if you felt misguided or uniformed and thanks again for coming south.
Several places close by to launch and get into the garden. I camp down the road and foil or kite over quite easily. Real is one of the nicest shops on the island and everyone there takes their cue from Matt -super nice, friendly, and stoked!
Yes we have ridden the Midlengths of all size with the Foil Drive and it works well. If you run the board under water for 3-5 seconds it will cut out. You can add the accessory antenna but we have felt that we didn’t need it.
Hi really enjoy your reviews! I'd be interested in a comparison of sayt the 75L or 65L midlenght board and a short 40-60L traditional wingfoil board like your FG. I'm using a 75L Naish (12-30knts wind) and a 110L Axis DW board (7-15kntsw up to 20knts on the DW)- like the ideq of a 1 board quiver so the Armstrong ML concept appeals - like using foot straps in a breeze. Find the DW board very manageable in 20knts (2.8m wing and 850cm2 foil) just no straps!
Thanks for the question. I don't know your weight or ability level but if you want to bridge the gap and have one board, I would go with a 85L Armstrong ML. That will still give you the light air take off and since it is a lot narrower than your 75L Naish, it will turn better and feel more performance oriented. If you drop down to the 75L ML, you will still have decent light air take off but it will be more technical. Stability will probably be similar to your Naish. Then going to the 65L, you definitely will have a very sporty board but will loose some stability compared to your 75L Naish. Hope that helps.
I normally wing with the 795cm in all locations in Hatteras. In this video I was on the 725cm as I was in light air and wanted to optimize for light air. There are only a couple of deeper water spots in the Pamlico Sound. The two most popular are the Watermen's Foil Garden behind our shop which can be easily accessed if you are a guest at Watermen's Retreat or the Haul Over Day Use Area aka. Canadian Hole aka. Wing Hole. The ocean is wide open and you can access that over our 70 miles of beach on Cape Hatteras. Many people ride side off the north side on a SW or south side on a NE and the waves are often tiny with some little bumps for gliding.

Thanks for another great review 👌🏼 I know this video was focussed on winging, but if you were a beginner SUPaddler and had to pick between those 2 board for SUP DW, would you take the Midlength due to increased side to side stability? Cheers
Sure thing. It depends on your size but most likely I would still recommend the DW board as you will get going fast by paddling and get on foil easier with the DW board. You might just want to size up the volume to the 116L. If you are light you could consider the Midlength 100 but it won’t paddle as fast or straight so you might stay stuck on the water.
@@wingfoilrentals For me yes I would not try to paddle up the 100L because I'm not that great of a paddler and need the extra glide of the downwind board. That being said I know people that are decent at SUP and they flat water paddle up the 85L Midlength so this 100L will definitely work.

Matt- Good video. Ballpark how many kts was it blowing? Looks like you had an 8M wing?
Yeah 8m wing. Our wind meter is in mph and it was reading average 12 with a low of 8 and high of 13.
The numbers above are MPH and not Knots.
