    If it's same as Yaris, it's 475ml oil in diff. Few solutions or mix for even better results: wrap exhaust, rear diff vent (Airtec, HRNSHN...), Hel's diff oil cooler, Cusco rear diff cover (750ml oil)

    • @warboyrb
      @warboyrb Год назад +7

      Its not really diff overheating - it's the clutch pack in front of it - and that oil is not shared between the diff and the clutch pack unit. Clutch pack unit is a sealed unit.

    My oil temp went to 135°C on a 19° day - HEL oil cooler fixed that. With the rear diff - can wrap the exhaust that snakes around it. There are also options for the cooling scoops.
    Not sure if GR Corolla weight plays a bigger part - Yaris is sub 1300kg, so never had a diff overheat and I drove it at Phillip Island racetrack with air temps above 40°

    Not sure what mode you were on but try track mode, 50/50 split should not let the clutches slip as much and reduce the heat put in the system. Suzuki had a similar system on the SX4 and for their WRC drivetrain the just locked it to 50/50 and had no overheating issues.

    • @MaddNomad1015
      @MaddNomad1015 Год назад +4

      It's a common issue with the system. The GRY has had the issue in different modes and someone overheated their GRC in 50/50.
      System always slips causing heat.

    • @artistintheambulance
      @artistintheambulance Год назад +4

      @MrBenstero The rear diff is over driven (different ratio to front diff) which enables the car to shift torque front to rear.
      The clutches will always be slipping while power is being sent to the rear wheels. If it locked as you put it, the rear wheels would be going faster than the front which would break the transmission.
      Air scoops, Cusco diff cover, exhaust wrap near the diff all help eliminate the issue 😉

    Look for Syvecs awd module. The temp cutout in the factory system is way too conservative and it does suddendly shut off the awd once it reaches the critical temperature. The Syvecs module is fully programmable, can cutout at higher temperature and it does have a strategy in order to gently reduce the pressure in the system trying to contain the temp increase before switching off the system. I have it on my Yaris (heavily tuned) as well as every rally GR Yaris racing in the italian championship.

    Laughing at all comments dissing the car for the well documented and easily fixed AWD overheat issue. Air duct and/or exhaust wrap solve this immediately. If you are adding more grip and more trackdays then a larger aftermarket rear diff oil container is ideal. The GR Yaris and Corolla are few of the best and budget options for dual purpose use (daily, weekend toy, occasional trackday) out of the box. Try taking any sports car/ hot hatcg in the next price bracket with stock rotors and pads on a trackday and see what happens.

      I thought it was the other way around. Fwd only mode means the clutch pack is completely open. For track mode the clutch needs to close a bit, so you have 50:50. Sport mode is 30:70 meaning that the clutch pack needs to close even more in comparison to track mode in order to deliver more torque to the rear. Am I wrong?

      @@JustDriven Yeah, I was hoping they'd do something cool for the 50th anniversary but no. I'll just have to keep driving this one.

    That's a shame, I expected more from a 40-50+ thousand Toyota. Hopefully this issue gets the attention of someone at Toyota and they do something about it 😔 Overheats in cool temps after a few laps? in the summer, it would be undrivable I'd imagine.

    • @JustDriven

      We did push it hard with 30/70 splits. We are reading it may prefer 50/50 more without overheating. We will try this more next time.

    • @Pixelplanet5
      @Pixelplanet5 Год назад

      no, in summer it will simply switch to 2WD sooner if you push it hard.
      and this is not an issue, this is a side effect of the design of the AWD system.

    As much as I like Toyota, the more I learn about this car the more I'll either stick to my VN or would purchase a Supra with a Manual...

    It’s a beautiful car it really is but I’m not sold on the price point. Especially with the Mark ups maybe I’m wrong here but i feel like you could spend less building something just as fun

      You could spend less money building something just as fun. But not many people have had a chance to tune the GR Corolla yet. We wanted to try and play with this chassis for a little.
