    Today we take a look at the ALL-NEW 2023 Toyota GR Corolla, and pit that against one of my ALL TIME FAVOURITE HOT HATCHES the 2023 Hyundai i30N. These two formidable performance cars provide a lot of money for their price, with the GR Corolla using the WORLD'S MOST POWERFUL 3 cylinder turbo and the i30 N boasting a FIREY 4 cylinder engine and insanely cool exhaust. So should you buy the hot Toyota GR Corolla or save $10,000 and buy an i30 N? Let's talk about that!

    I currently drive a 2022 i30N manual & honestly could not find a better modern manual performance car on budget that I could daily. Also not alot of people don't talk about it but it's very economical too. I thrash it at least once a day (usually on my drive home from work) and I average 8.8l per 100km....
    Absolutely love it!

I had a stage two Evo 9, and then gave it up for kids etc. I jumped on an i30n manual when someone cancelled their order and the car is perfect for my use case. Two boys and a dog in the back during weekdays. Lake Mountain runs on weekends and the occasional track day. The pricing point means I can chuck around and not worry about stone chips etc 😊

First time I saw one it was when I got to the dealership the day of purchase, crazy. Dealer mark up here is ridiculous, most are MSRP + 5K. Got mine for 40K, Core. I own a GR Yaris Rallye and test drove the GR Corolla. The Corolla motor did feel stronger than the Yaris to me, but the turn-in on the Corolla felt a lot softer and the steering not as direct. Be great if someone could review the Yaris against the Corolla just to get another opinion but I came away from my test preferring to keep my Yaris.

    • @Philbyyyy
      @Philbyyyy Год назад +1

      Corolla seating is a bit lower, maybe that's why it felt faster? Because I doubt it's faster in a line than the Yaris. Power to weight is worse I'm pretty sure.

      @@Philbyyyy Nah. Nothing to do with the seat mate. The Corolla still felt quite high. The motor felt a lot more linear in its delivery and a lot less laggy than the Yaris. I've owned mine for two years now and I could immediately feel the difference. That said, this is a new engine with improvements. It should feel better. However, the Corolla was definitely softer in the front end and the steering felt more numb, which would have been attributed to the weight difference and the awful tyres they stuck on the Corolla v my PS4S's.

    • @Philbyyyy
      @Philbyyyy Год назад

      @@darrenprior6339 that's interesting. Yeah the Corolla does have some strengthened internals, I thought that was because they increased the power slightly. I only really put my foot down in the Yaris when I'm above 3k rpm otherwise it takes a while for the turbo to get going. I don't notice much lag when it's in the right rev range. Sounds like the Corolla has improved on that though.

    I looked at both from an engineering perspective and the i30N wins hands down. Toyota should have built a whole new hatchback and put a 350Hp 2 litre inline 4 into it. The GR Corolla is not even an option here you simply cannot even walk into a dealer and buy one. The i30N top spec here is NZD$59k and the GR Corolla is NZD$75K, there is no way I'm paying that for a 3 cylinder 1.6 that needs stupid levels of boost to get to 300Hp. My new i30N arrives in June in 6 speed manual, it was a no brainer.

    The GR Corolla is ugly in my opinion. The front just has a massive grill, no great design, this look wore off on me pretty quickly. The back looks like a regular ass Corolla that we see thousands of on the street. Most people won't be able to spot the difference. Not to mention way too much cheap piano black plastics on the exterior. The interior gets a quack from me if you are paying markup for that, it's fair if you get it at MSRP.

    Without lounge control, the i30 is faster.. The four-wheel drive needs torque and big engine...

    The GR Corolla is nice, but way overpriced. The DCT in the i30N is just godly! Best automatic you might find even up to 65.000-70.000$ contenders

    Why on earth do these reviewers review a manual vs auto when both cars come in a manual?? Who would buy that horrible looking, over priced, 3 exhaust having (yet silent) Corolla for it’s ridiculous price when you can buy a I30N 😂
