But your opinion "set points don't matter" has been debunked now. Coaches nowadays teaches different kinds of setpoint (low.mid.high and extended) depending on the kind of shot. Their take on how to do a one motion and two motion shot is also different. In one motion shot, you need to put the ball on the setpoint while in a loaded position (squat position) before releasing the ball. In two motion shot, you put the ball in your setpoint while you are in the apex of your jump. Extra tip: Do one motion shots on free-throws and three-point shots Do 1.5(borderline) or 2 motion on mid range shots Extra extra tip: Do a 1.2 motion shot ( its kinda identical to 1.5 motion but faster and more power) for faster three-point release. To do this, you need to put the ball in your setpoint as you go up and release it. Coach brycestanhope has a video on his instagram explaining this. In 1.5 motion, the ball reaches your setpoint while you are in the air, while in 1.2 motion, the ball reaches your setpoint while you're about to get off the ground and your feet is still in contact with the floor. One motion and 1.2 motion shots has a super minimal/quick pause to it, its like a 0.5 second pause before the release.
Pro Shot Shooting System But even Steph's shot becomes a two motion shot in the game. I just think they don't want everyone having an extremely quick shot. :/
Jamie Lindsay in games if he is not wide open he tends to jump higher but he doesnt stop when he is at the peak of his jump he would be releasing the ball on the way up thats the difference
Changing my set shot/point from above and behind my head to around the forehead gave me a one motion shot. You can still sweep and sway a lot on a one motion shot, you just release the ball before you finish your sweep and sway.
Coach, the way I see it is that every player has a set point, it's just some players have a quicker release and don't pause as much as others during that set point. In slow motion to me it looks like curry has a set point just above his eye as most one motion shooters seem to. What's your opinion on this? Also do you think it's better to snap the wrist on your release, or let it flick naturally due to the extension of yourarm and elbow? thanks
+Simon Kong set point isn't where you pause, it's where you begin to launch the ball towards the rim. Steph brings it to his head then towards the rim in one fluent motion
Shooting Evolution: hitch (first) -> 2motion -> 1 motion -> either (now), depends on defense. Starting as a self taught shooter, my shot was a 2 motions shot, bringing the back back, so really it was the hitch. Then I started practicing and working on the mechanics of my shot. First I correct the hitch, so I would keep the ball infront, but still was a 2 motion. Then after examining Currys shot, and trying it by shooting lower, not bringing the ball up to a high "set point" I noticed by shots had lots more arc, were easier, and were going in! It was so easy, and effective, it felt like cheating. I then realized the difference between a 2 motion MJ shot, and a 1 motion Curry shot. I then found video which confirmed my theories, and realized that in games, because I'm short, I often jump on closer or midrange shots, and shot at the top of my jump (2 motion). And when I'm at 3point range, with some room, I go with the 1-motion shot. I have also read, Pro Shooting Secrets, and that really solidified my ideas around shooting. My take away, similar to conclusions in the aforementioned book, is that it depends on your height (taller players don't need to avoid blocks by jumping as high as shorter players), where you are shooting from (midrange vs 3pt), and how close the defender is. Currently I'm investigating adding a floater to my game which could replace my 2-motion shot, or complement my options, when in midrange or closer distance.
you just have to learn from the fundamentals then you can just really try whatever release that works for you as long as you understand the principle behind it.
"True" 1 motion shooters are usually kids and women. At the nba level everyone has a small pause. The shorter that pause is the better power you can generate.
I personally like to jump a little bit more in my shot. I don't have a dramatic pause, but I jump enough where I can catch the ball from the side and gain my balance/alignment in the air for a spot up shot. One motion shots feel much harder to catch and shoot from the sides, as the release is so quick that it can be harder to gain balance and alignment before shooting(if you want to shoot fast). What do you think?
Lovin the music choice and thanks for another vid! Without this channel you might as well say I suck. So thanks a lot for all the tips and tricks to help boost my game.
Im a second motion shooter and everybody at my school is a 1 motion. And I tried switching but its impossible. So I stuck with my 2nd motion and improved it.
@Pro Shot Shooting System can you do a Brandon Jennings brakes down is he a one motion or two and see if you can find anything wrong with his jump shot that makes him not a big time shooter because I can't.
Coach, I find that my "set point" is always changing depending on the type of shot I'm shooting. Sometimes my shot is a one-eyed shot and other times it's two; sometimes higher and sometimes lower so I find myself being bothered by my set point a lot. Should I still divert my focus from the set point and onto the end result?
Hey coach I'm going into my junior year being 6'3. I've played every position on the court. I've always had a mid range. And your form made it extremely reliable. But I just can't seem to shoot threes consistently. And explanations?
theres a borderline classification? ohhhh, i guess thats what i am. it always confused me. i have a low set point but i jump higher and it kinda meets in the middle for timing
Hello I am basketball youtuber from South Korea. I AM BIG FAN OF STEPH CURRY. Anyway can I use your video? Cause Some people are saying there is no One motion in NBA And Curry is also two motion shot. I wanna explain them The One motion shot with your video🙏
can you go more into borderline shooting. Is it when they are in the middle of 1 and 2 motion. Like they use their legs for power but he a quick set point at their forehead
Same, I used to have a two motion shot, but I didn't know that. And people told me why do you pause when you shoot. I watched this video and jumped really low and I became a one motion shooter and the ball goes in more.
I like how effective the one motion is but how would you ever do a pull up jump shot without it being to powerful or turning into a two motion and how do you do post fadeaways with a one motion?
I think I have close to a hitch shot. I've been trying to work on lowering my release point during the summer, but it's hard when it doesn't feel natural. I also have some difficulty locking my elbow and doing the hand in the cookie jar all the time, too. Nevertheless, I'm not a terrible shooter. At least not by the standards of where I live.
guys you listen to what pro shot say and stay in the gym you will become a really good shooter. this is coming from a guy that has shot 58% from 3 the second half of the season work hard and listen to pro shot he knows what he's talking about.
I would like to know which one i should have I'm a 5'10 guard. At the moment i have a 2 motion but I don't know if I'm doing the right thing as far as this being better for me to score with & get off over defenders & I see a lot of small players around my height like Nate Robinson, Isaiah Thomas & Kay Felder that shoot 2 motions so I would like to know if I should do the same.
You said that : " the higher you jump the more you are going to have a two motion shot " that's true but regularly two motion shooters using a lot of power in the two motion jump shot and they have a lot of power in there arms and mechanics.
+Pro Shot Shooting System hey guys, great video. But I don't agree in Dirk being a hitch shooter. His setpoint is actually more in the direction of his head than of the most 2 Motion shooters. And sometimes when he is guarded very tight a litte above the head, but it's never behind the head. I would call him borderline between hitch and 2 Motion. He has a bit of a hitch setpoint but his Shooting Motion is 2 Motion, because of that this "Hitch Setpoint" doesn't effect his shooting negatively. What do you think about that?
Coach, where should one motion shooters release their shot from? i understand that 1 motion shooters do not have a set point on their shot but there must be a point or position where they release their shot from even though they don't pause on that position.
Pro Shot System It’s more about set point than 1 motion and 2 motion... I have a higher set point (above my forehead) for mid range so I can shoot over defenders since i’m 6’1. From 3, I can’t get the ball consistently far enough for some reason so I lower my set point to about my cheek. Can I not have both?
Pro Shot System I feel like shooting different ways won’t help me for college level, but having a low set point will kill my mid range game at the college level...
coach, isn't james harden also a borderline shooter? I think one of the reasons some players are seen as one motion shooters is that they barely use the sweep and sway, because they focus more on the smooth, non-pause release. For borderline shooters mentioned in the video, like durant and reddick, I think they focus a little bit more on the jump( the sweep and sway), and when they do that, there would be a slight pause on the release.
i cant imagine to shoot my jump shot before my head. i am a hitch shooter and i am always feared that i get blocked when i shoot the ball before before my head. should i jump higher to avoid that or should i stay at my hitch jump sjot
Coach could I implement both motile of shooting into my game.like 1 motion for deep threes and two motions to rise up and shoot over defenders? Or should stick to one particular motion
I’ve always been coached your three point shot and your mid range shot should not be the same shot. I’m a one motion shooter for threes, but a 2 motion shooter for midranges. It helps to get higher elevation when closer to the basket, and that naturally cause you to become a 2 motion shooter.
i just want to know if im doing right. when shooting i gain arc by forcing my shooting shoulder back instead of using my tricep/arm to gain force. cant really explain but i can really feel my shoulder rather than my arm
hey coach I'm a 5'0 small forward and shooting guard and I'm a borderline shooter so do I need a set point and do I need to pause or not and do I need to do the sweep and sway and turn and I do it with one leg going out
where is the video from years ago about the shooting of Stephen curry and those myelin things all that? i can't find that video, can you upload it please?
I think Dirk shoots the way he does is because sometimes you need extra strength when shooting fadeaways. At least for me anyway, my whole game is based around the post fadeaway but i don't do it to his extent.
most great shooters don't break it down like this site does I was never ever taught how to shoot I often wonder how much better I could of been if I had coaching
I can't believe I'm saying this but I I would half to disagree with you coach Paul on set points because it improved my shot. My release is the only consistent part of my entire shot.Players need a set point because it will give them a consistent release angle(elbow always above eye). One motion shooters do have set points problem is it's difficult to see because the shot is so quick so you half to slow it down. You will only see a 1 motion shooters setpoint before they jump. Once they jump the ball already gone.1 motion shooters can still have a quick shot despite having a set point because the ball is in front of the face or forehead. 2 motion shooters bring the set point to the peak of jump then shoot it. They will usually have the ball behind their head or have shot on the side of their face. The more you bring the ball back the more of a throw the shot becomes. what I'm saying is that a set point won't slow down shot as long as the player keeps ball in front of their face making sure the ball isn't behind the head or on the side of head making it a V. Other than your thoughts on set points I'll agree with you on everything else because you always show proof which is why I will always love the pro shot shooting system and Shotmechanics.
I agree with what your saying I think calling it one motion is more of a terminology to differentiate the two. watch Steph shoot from half court the shot starts from the bottom of near his shot pocket. that is definitely a one motion shot.
Dude says one motion shooters are smoother....He has to mean in the technical sense....because Ray Allen's Shot looks smooth as fuck, and so does the example shot they showed with Kobe....It looked so damn sweet. SMOOTH!
okay, soon my "turn" (that's what my question is about) my left foot is halfway behind my right foot. Like, my toes are at the midway section. Is this enough to be a good shooter? My dad keeps yelling at me to stay squared and he says it's to help me out. I don't get this cuz he turns, but still
When shooting i try to make it a one motion shot. This is fine with 3-pointers. But at mid-range, if I try to do a one motion shot, i cannot extend my elbow fully, making my elbow extension inconsistent between different ranges. If I want to remain consistent with my elbow and follow through, I have to release later in the jump, making it less fluent. Which is better/worse? Inconsistent follow through or inconsistent release timing? Or is there a way where i don't have to choose?
elleveldy late ass comment but.. I had he same problem my three was consistent but my midrange felt very inconsistent when I shot with one motion. So what I did was start using a 2 motion jumper all the time. Since then my midrange is my best area and my three is still pretty good. Sometimes very deep threes can be difficult but use sweep and sway. I had the same problem as you and now my shot is great
Ball is Life Technically everyone has a set point. There has to be a pause at some point, one motion shooters just release so quickly you can't tell from a first glance. You can practice switching your set point that's the highest while still being comfortable. I shot my best with a hitch shot, so set point is the most important part in my opinion as long as you don't go insanely too high or low.
How do i go from in between to just 1 motion like curry i tried to fix it but i really dont know how. I shoot kind of like jj but i wanna shoot more like curry
i having problem with one motion, i cant feel the ball, it feels like im not handling any ball when im shooting the basketball and it has a bad effect in my accuracy..how am i gonna fix it?
I used to have this problem too Just jump and release the ball at your correct timing Keep shooting and try to found your time to release the ball quicker, a comfortable way and giving you power. Everyone has a different release time. Found yours
idk if i agree about not worry about the set point i'm a one motion shooter on catch and shoot and im aware of my set point because it gives me more control over my shot. Even as i watch those highlights in the video Curry and Hardin seem to have set points as well. exp. Curry looks like he puts the ball right in front of his right eyebrow before he releases his shot
+krose0902 Do you think great shooters focus on the set point. I have spoken to hundreds of great shooters and no one worries about their set point. Its like a natural thing.
Coach i understand you dont focus on set point but there is no college , nba players that shoot from there chest . They alway bring the ball to fore head level or around there , which is a set point i think you should mention this .
+Jack Jake Im not saying shoot from the chest. But if you are a one motion shooter, you dont have a set point. You dont pause. You know most great shooters I talk to have no idea what a set point is
+Jack Jake man there is a couple nba guys i can think that shoot from the chest, jeff teague, Damian Lillard, luke kennard all have very low setpoints, but they are all 1 motion and extend on their shot the key is the extension
You should try to only release it with your middle finger, index finger, or both. Using your ring finger and pinky finger would make you miss left and right.
Question...I'm already a shooter but wanted to know as a shooter under 6ft in college, should I be more 1 motion or 2 motion shooter? Or it doesn't matter?
One motion is only good for three pointers. You need two motion for close range battles.
+Thar Master that's y u get good at runners and floaters.
+lulu mink he said that
Curry disagrees. He shoots in 1motion everywhere i also shoot 1 motion cuz i have jump of 5 inch max. Lmfaoo
I scored 42 in high school game tho
I shoot 1 motion everytime except for fadeaways
7:10 is cash
When you forget to change your Jumpshot animation in 2k

He just needs to work on it
He got VERY LATE release, that's why it looked like that

having a smooth shot from the dip to the release is VITAL. Thanks for pointing that out, this helps tremendously!

+xevangz Im trying to work on that
+xevangz Dat Stevie Wonder!
What's the song called that he uses
God I hope that guy at 7:10 is joking on that jumper
I find close to mid range shots im most succesful with a two motion shot whereas for 3 pointers im best at using a one motion.
I wish 2k had any idea that there is a one motion shot instead of just a two motion shot. :(
+Jamie Lindsay They have good stuff, but there are some flaws

Snap it for rotation. 1 motion shooters like Curry can't be considered having a set point, it looks like that cause it's slowed down
Do I have a 2 motion because I shoot like Kobe, my shot is on my channel
+Simon Kong set point isn't where you pause, it's where you begin to launch the ball towards the rim. Steph brings it to his head then towards the rim in one fluent motion
Simon Isaiah but every shot he has he sets in the same spot for three which is his eyebrow he just gets it there quick while jumping.
Far away lower set point. Close up. Heighten set point

Question about the feet , I remember watching clips of James harden and Kevin durant shooting with tippy toes does the help in any sort of way ?
+Jeff cada maybe being more explosive into the shot cause that could help you jump quicker
+Jeff cada your supposed to shot on your balls of your feet not on your whole feet, if you shoot with your foot you'll break your ankle
i just want to know if im doing right. when shooting i gain arc by forcing my shooting shoulder back instead of using my tricep/arm to gain force. cant really explain but i can really feel my shoulder rather than my arm
Hey coach. What are your opinions on tom nordlands 'swish method' shooting
hey coach I'm a 5'0 small forward and shooting guard and I'm a borderline shooter so do I need a set point and do I need to pause or not and do I need to do the sweep and sway and turn and I do it with one leg going out
You guys should do a video on michael redd's shooting form
where is the video from years ago about the shooting of Stephen curry and those myelin things all that? i can't find that video, can you upload it please?
Could you explain how the sweep and sway would work with a 1 motion shot
I think Dirk shoots the way he does is because sometimes you need extra strength when shooting fadeaways. At least for me anyway, my whole game is based around the post fadeaway but i don't do it to his extent.
My shot is one motion, but I still like to reach the peak of my jump, so it's somewhat inbetween
most great shooters don't break it down like this site does I was never ever taught how to shoot I often wonder how much better I could of been if I had coaching
Agreed.
I agree with what your saying I think calling it one motion is more of a terminology to differentiate the two. watch Steph shoot from half court the shot starts from the bottom of near his shot pocket. that is definitely a one motion shot.
does proshot have any clinics that come to NYC
What do you mean release a few inches above the rim?
Dude says one motion shooters are smoother....He has to mean in the technical sense....because Ray Allen's Shot looks smooth as fuck, and so does the example shot they showed with Kobe....It looked so damn sweet. SMOOTH!
At 6:08 do you mean "if you're a one motion shooter" lol
okay, soon my "turn" (that's what my question is about) my left foot is halfway behind my right foot. Like, my toes are at the midway section. Is this enough to be a good shooter? My dad keeps yelling at me to stay squared and he says it's to help me out. I don't get this cuz he turns, but still
Is it bad to dip off the dribble?
What about Korver, Love, Frye, are they 1.5 motion?
+febbra2 Korver and frye are more 2
When shooting i try to make it a one motion shot.
I had the same problem as you and now my shot is great
Your Latest video is unavailable to play for some reason :(
idk if im a 1 motion shooter or a 2 motion shooter. But don't you need to have a set point to shoot more accurately?
Ball is Life Technically everyone has a set point. There has to be a pause at some point, one motion shooters just release so quickly you can't tell from a first glance. You can practice switching your set point that's the highest while still being comfortable. I shot my best with a hitch shot, so set point is the most important part in my opinion as long as you don't go insanely too high or low.
when you shot does the ball have to be at the middle of you head or a little right ?
jordan LEE up to you
How do i go from in between to just 1 motion like curry i tried to fix it but i really dont know how. I shoot kind of like jj but i wanna shoot more like curry
what do you mean by "your release should be a few inches above the rim"?
You should see the rim. a few inches if space, then you own extended hand ABOVE the rim from your point of view.
Total one motion in today is lamelo. His form is so one motion and very quick
i am between motion one and motion 2. like i dont jump high and i still have a set point on my shot
Is Klay Thomposon one motion shooter?
i having problem with one motion, i cant feel the ball, it feels like im not handling any ball when im shooting the basketball and it has a bad effect in my accuracy..how am i gonna fix it?
I used to have this problem too
Just jump and release the ball at your correct timing
Keep shooting and try to found your time to release the ball quicker, a comfortable way and giving you power.
I mean yea it still feels natural i'm just saying i'm aware of it tho.
Guys im a beginner how i shot my 3 pointers one motion or two motion
Hey pro shot shooting system, could I email you?
would you need a 2 motion shot to be effective at fadeaways?
Yeah, that's why Kobe has the best ones ever.
Yes
Do you need good arm muscles(Strong) for shooting 3 and deeper?(1 motion)
king crazy Dre, it's way easier to shoot 3 when you have a 1 motion shot
Coach i understand you dont focus on set point but there is no college , nba players that shoot from there chest . They alway bring the ball to fore head level or around there , which is a set point i think you should mention this .
+Jack Jake Im not saying shoot from the chest. But if you are a one motion shooter, you dont have a set point. You dont pause. You know most great shooters I talk to have no idea what a set point is
+Jack Jake man there is a couple nba guys i can think that shoot from the chest, jeff teague, Damian Lillard, luke kennard all have very low setpoints, but they are all 1 motion and extend on their shot the key is the extension
none of those guys shot from their chest my guy
Ever heard of sean Marion
I am a two motion shooter but I also shot right when I am jumping not when I'm in the air
hi um I'm a one motion shooter I release with my middle, ring and pinkie is that good or is it bad and do I need to change anything
You should try to only release it with your middle finger, index finger, or both. Using your ring finger and pinky finger would make you miss left and right.
What's the difference between a 1 motion shooter and a borderline shooter?
what about klay thompson? is he a 1, 2 or borderline
Question...I'm already a shooter but wanted to know as a shooter under 6ft in college, should I be more 1 motion or 2 motion shooter? Or it doesn't matter?
One motion is typically a quicker release, as a short player that's better. But if you are in college wait until the offseason to adjust.
+Will Bethard yea I'm naturally a one motion shooter I was just curious because most of the shorter guys in the NBA jump higher on their shots
