www.proshotsystem.com We take a look at different types of angels and how much the feet should be turned. We also focus on shooting alignment here as well.
i just came back from a 4hour shooting session using the turn , the dip , the sweep and sway, and i torched the net over and over again!! i used to be a two motion shooter with bad percentages, and now i'm shooting much better thanks to you just thank you
This is such an essential shooting fundamental, and I played D-3, coached high school for 15 years, constantly attended clinics and purchased books and videos, and this was never covered. That's totally insane! Thanks, Coach Hoover.
+Pro Shot Shooting System Coach, how can Curry and Harden have a lot of range even jumping little as they do? I can hit a lot of 3's thanks to your Shooting System, but when shooting 3's(I'm from Brazil, so the line is closer than the nba) i have to jump a lot to don't get it short. My Jump shot looks a lot like Kyle Korver in this part, but i'm undersized at my position, and jumping that much is hurting me in game situations. I'm what you call 1.5 motion shooter, so i don't jump much but i have to sweep A LOT my feet. Thanks for the attention, Just love your channel and i'm getting everyday closer my goals...and sorry for the terrible english!
it doesnt really matter how low because the ball is still going to release at the same spot but your just getting more power and kevin martin doesnt shoot right infront of his face edit: after looking at kevin martins form he shoots from the left side of his body at eyebrow level, just further away from the face than most shooters
Good video, thank you. There is a lot there but I would like to add a little bit of detail to some of these points. First, it is all about what Lebron James said. It is about getting the shooting elbow comfortably and naturally lined up with the hoop. To accomplish that, your upper body should be aligned open. If your feet are not pointing to the left when you jump, it is OK. Friction from the floor keeps them from turning on the floor but when your feet leave the floor, that friction is gone and your feet naturally turn to align with your upper body. I am clarifying this because the last thing you want to do is to try to turn in the air. That is extra motion that will throw your shot off line. Your feet naturally turn so don't worry about MAKING them turn when they leave the floor. The main thing is keep your elbow lined up comfortably with the hoop before you jump and swing your elbows straight up so your shooting elbow stays aligned with the hoop from start to finish. That simple motion helps keep the ball balanced in your hand and keeps you from turning in the air. I will also say there are three things you can do to keep your elbow lined up comfortably with the hoop from start to finish. First, simply don't let your elbow stick out like a chicken wing before you jump. If it sticks out before you jump, it will stick out as you shoot. Let it brush your side. Second, open your feet a little bit as this video says. How much is up to you - whatever you feel comfortable with. Some great shooters like Andrew Toney - did not open them at all. Some like Larry Bird opened them a lot. Third - and this is very subtle - dip your shooting shoulder just a little before you jump. Keep your chest up so you are not slouched over. Doing that brings your upper arm (shoulder to elbow) in line with the hoop so your elbow swings up in line with the hoop. Great shooters combine these three things differently but they tend to do all three to varying degrees. There were some excellent points about angles going left versus going right. Many right handed players feel more comfortable going left for exactly the reason the video explains. But there is a very subtle trick to going right that can make it a lot easier and more natural to turn. First, when you go left, you set your right foot on the floor, dip your right shoulder, swing your left foot around and jump straight up. The key is the direction you point your right foot (pivot foot) when you set it on the floor. It is natural to point it in the same direction you are moving. This is the direction your entire body will follow and since it is already pointed left, your body doesn't need to turn get aligned properly. That is not the case when you go right - your body needs to turn a lot more. So the trick to going right is to set your left foot (pivot foot) on the floor pointed toward the hoop, or as far inward as you can, rather than setting it down pointed right, which is the direction you are moving. Turning your pivot foot inward in this situation greatly facilitates turning your body because your body naturally follows the direction your lead foot points. The other difference is the timing of when you dip your shoulder. When you go left, you dip your right shoulder before you set your left foot down. When you go right, you dip your right shoulder at the same time you set your trail foot down. Also, to avoid over-pivoting when going right it may be natural to set your trail foot down behind your pivot foot rather than setting both feet down equidistant from the hoop. You can also over pivot going left but less likely since you don't need to turn as much. You don't have to have both feet even with each other. one can be slightly behind the other. Many videos talk about having a single configuration but that is nonsense. Your feet position will vary all over the place depending on the situation and the key is to set them however you need to to stay balanced and jump strong. Anyway I could talk all day about these thins so I will end it here. Good video, thanks.
I actually thought the turn happens only before the shot. Now I know it can be different for people that the turn can happen during the shot itself. Is this correct?
This is a great vid. Really helps. But once you get the basics down you really need to make your shot your own and go with what feels best to you. Also love the Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb instrumental background.
Basketball coach that understands body mechanics. WHATS UP. PUT YOUR SHOULDER INTO IT. So many clueless basketball experts couldn't be sure that they were all wrong until I saw your videos. Hey coach love the videos, i look up to nick young's (swaggy p's) jumpshot. In my mind it looks like it has all of the necessary mechanics for proshot. Should I try to model my jumper after him or not. And if not then who should I model my shot after?
Hey coach, I discovered pro shot during the summer not to long ago and one thing that the instructor told me that I do is that I lean or fall back when I shoot. I find that the majority of the shots I miss are always short and hit the front of the rim so this must be right. How can I fix this? Should I sweep and sway less or dip more?
+Pro Shot Shooting System Can you make a video of shooting with palm cause I saw a video from splash lab he said every great player keep the ball of their palm but I don't think so so can you make a video?
Dear Coach, I follow your system, I turn when I shoot, but I have a question, what should be my poise before I turn ? When I am ready to shoot, I turn 45 degree. When I shoot, my feet turn to 90. But I see some players shoot from square(0) to 70 to 90 degree ... What should I do, coach, I appreciate your help!! Thanks.
When melo uses the 1-2 his left foot is already towards the basket while his other is sided towards to the passer. When he catches the ball, he dips AND steps with his left at the same time which is as fast as the hop. So more like a rocking step than the 1-2
i just came back from a 4hour shooting session using the turn , the dip , the sweep and sway, and i torched the net over and over again!! i used to be a two motion shooter with bad percentages, and now i'm shooting much better thanks to you

Make sure you reverse this for left handed players. So for a lefty, pull-up to the right is much easier than left.

How is it harder for me the deliberate pull up than the normal pull up? The natural turn is hard to me, is easier to me to turn un the air, why?
that a choice the player has to make. Turn in the air during the elevation into the shot or turn before you elevate. it's really up to what the player is more comfortable with and can maintain control with more easily.

This happens to me too. I can shoot well though if I jab step with a defender on me.

+BBALLBREAKDOWN Sorry Pro Shot BballBreakdown beat you to it.
so when you shoot threes, you should turn more?
nope i think u should swing ur hips more like the sweep more
wait so i'm confused. Should I start with my feet slightly turned when I shoot, or square up and turn in the air?
It doesn't matter
R u coming 2 SoCal soon like in San Diego?
Love the pink floyd instrumental
+Marcus Lee Love that song...Comfortably NUmb!!!
+Pro Shot Shooting System You have helped my shot so much over the one year ive watched your videos, thank you so much. I live in Australia by the way
hey coach can you make a video of kyrie irving shooting form
He already did:). Check it out!
+Lucas Cresci Everyone asks me that...its up

Hey coach, I discovered pro shot during the summer not to long ago and one thing that the instructor told me that I do is that I lean or fall back when I shoot. I find that the majority of the shots I miss are always short and hit the front of the rim so this must be right. How can I fix this? Should I sweep and sway less or dip more?
Don't fade or anything. When you sweep your feet forward let your shoulders sway back almost naturally.
+AkFTW Thank you! I'm going to try that out and see how it goes.
+Tarynn Mays np man, Ya just you gotta get it to feel more natural. You dont want to force ur shoulders
You turn and sweep your forward.
melo has such a nice smooth shot
Why does more hip turn give you more power?
+mike McNeill Think about it...every sport uses hip turn
Alignment
Do I turn 75 going right or left
Could you please make a video for left handed shooters like me?
It's just the opposite, man.
This is really good.
thanks coach!!!!! :)
coach should we keep the ball off our palm?
+punk kenny Thats one of those things that you have to see what works for you
+Pro Shot Shooting System thanks coach
+Pro Shot Shooting System Can you make a video of shooting with palm cause I saw a video from splash lab he said every great player keep the ball of their palm but I don't think so so can you make a video?
Dear Coach, I follow your system, I turn when I shoot, but I have a question, what should be my poise before I turn ? When I am ready to shoot, I turn 45 degree. When I shoot, my feet turn to 90. But I see some players shoot from square(0) to 70 to 90 degree ... What should I do, coach, I appreciate your help!! Thanks.
Same question .
+Sahaj Mehta good
May you do a video on how to become athletic?
zeokenX thx
Coach could you do a video on how Carmelo keeps his release quick off the pass while using the 1-2 step?
+JakeM_6 He just shoots fast
When melo uses the 1-2 his left foot is already towards the basket while his other is sided towards to the passer. When he catches the ball, he dips AND steps with his left at the same time which is as fast as the hop. So more like a rocking step than the 1-2
+Emir Karic sorry he dips and steps with his right at the same time
how high should my arm be when i shoot
Above your eye
Hey coach, how much backspin should be on a bank shot?
absolutely 3.5 back spin is good
Backspin is not important in shooting
+secondpink yeah your right what was I thinking?😂
