Replacing the starter motor on a 2000 Toyota Camry.
Friend says, sometimes in the morning when she turns the ignition to the start position. She hears a clicking noise from the engine. The car would start a couple tries of turning the ignition.
The battery was bought on January 2015 and I tested it with my VAT 45, it is good. And the terminals was cleaned because it had a little corrosion.
NOTE: Have the battery tested first and clean battery terminals from any corrosion before replacing the starter.
So I suggested to replace the starter since it is the original starter when she bought the car.

16 years was a long time for a starter. The aftermarket one won’t last that long. Easy to swap out. Great video.
This video gives good details so far as I can tell. I'm not a mechanic so I'll let you know when I'm done. There are still some details that I need to consider because I haven't finished watching the entire video. I want to be able to clean off the contacts on the starter solenoid and I'm sure that if that info is in this video that I'll be able to do it.

This video is just what I need like the wheel bearings video I watched a few years ago with the hub flying across the garage like a missile after a hammer hit.
My 1999 Solara SE v6 4spdAT did not crank a couple days ago. Brought the battery home yesterday and it was not discharged. I do not believe I have a blown fuse or loose wiring I suspect the 23-year-old OEM starter.
This video is also helpful for showing the tools required for the job. The car is not at my house. I am attempting to save a $75.00 tow by fixing it in the parking lots where it is parked.
Fix It Angel You just earned another sub. The Vise Grips on the hood strut is a cool trick. Ive been using a 3' stick of rebar to hold my Camry hood up while I work. Next time Im under the hood Ima clamp my VG's on😎

When locking the failed hood support it is a good idea to place small section of split 3/8" id compressed air hose under vise grips so no one complains later:(

Great video. When I turned my 2000 Solara off last night I smelled electrical burn. I heard the started bogging down trying to turn, over and over and over very sluggishly. The key was totally off and out of the ignition. Smoke billowed from under the hood as the starter continued to try and turn. Eventually it burnt out ( lots of smoke and electrical smell) before I could get the battery cable disconnected....Will replacing the starter and possibly some battery cables be the only issue I have to deal with?
I recently replaced mine and I didn't bother remove the breather. I also did not put back that annoying bracket on the back bolt for the starter.
I have a 2000 Solara 4 cyl. For two weeks about one in fifteen starts nothing happens when I turn the key, no sound at all. I then step on the brake, move the stick shifter, rock back and forth in my seat some and eventually there's engagement and the car starts. I'm thinking I have a bad starter? What do you think? I found your video because I wanted to see where the starter is on the car so next time this happens I can tap on it to see if it helps.

I'm so busy and don't know how I do it with me recording video of everything. LOL I try not to get too much work. I don't want the car to come back for a recheck. Its cause shes bringing up an old tale that if you put a battery on the ground they get grounded out(lose voltage) But this is from when batteries were made of wood , not true with modern plastic encased batteries.
