    Impressive that he did all this and it wasn't even needed. That's commitment to the building of your channel.

    The most thorough video on youtube for replacing this part.
    I watched your video at 1am while waiting for a tow truck. By time the I finished watching I felt confident enough to have my car towed to my house (instead of the shop). I bought the part the next morning, watched the video again, and Voila! Busted a few knuckles trying to get the 14mms out but saved a few hundred bucks- totally worth it. Thanks!

    Best tutorial. To add ..With new starter: triple check seating of the power wire. On some remans the plastic seating slot doesn't seat deep enough. Remove seater from original & place onto new starter. Thanks

      The seating slot being what you plug the positive battery cable onto then screw down? Would/could this be responsible for me putting my new starter on and it not turning over?

      The same code reader that you used to find the code should be able to clear it.

    Great video took a while for me to complete the project but fixed the problem so I’m happy. I do notice a slight chirp or grinding noise ok initial cold start tho…maybe it’s not seated correctly?

    • @TheOriginalMechanic
      @TheOriginalMechanic  2 года назад

      If it was miss-seated it wouldn't work at all. I wouldn't worry about the small noise. It may need some break in time.

    Please help. I changed the starter and the car started up fine. I noticed the starter sparking occasionally. Is it possible that I didn’t screw battery plus nut tightly enough?? The solenoid control wire is fine. I’m just completely dumbfounded on what to do

    Hi. I'm trying to put the starter bolts back in but I messed up taking one side off by trying to loosen the bolt the wrong way and now I cant get the bolt in easily. I think I stripped something and I dont want to force it. What do you think?

    • @TheOriginalMechanic
      @TheOriginalMechanic  3 года назад

      You could try one of the other bolts in the hole. You may need to run a tap in there to fix the threads. If you don't have one, take your bolt in to a hardware store to match it to right tap.

    Hello Original Mechanic...
    I see you stay with your replies which I greatly appreciate; I got a question for ya.
    Are these 2.2L 5S-FE starters compatible with the ES300/3.0 Camry V6 starter? Found one for only $50 on eBay, just wondering before I order if you had any knowledge on that.
    Thanks!!!

    • @TheOriginalMechanic

      Sorry I don't know. What I would do is look for the starter under both engines at a parts store and see if the same part number comes up.

    I need your help. Most of the times my car starts normally, but once in a while, once in about 5 times, the stater is spinning and mashing a slippery noise and it doesn’t engage, And then when I try again, one or two times, it works! I have tried different starters, and they all do the same thing, and then I have ruled out the stater as a problem and I now suspect something else like a relay, the ignition switch or other, causing the starter not receiving enough power maybe once in a while to deploy completely the pignon gear of the bendix to engage the big gear by the flywheel to crank the motor properly. Can that starter slipping and slipping turning noise be caused by not enough power getting it, making it turn but not fast enough to push the pinion gear completely out once in a while and therefore not engaging? But if it was the cause, why would it engage the next time or second next time? I have ran out of explanations, causes, reasons and ways to fix it, please somebody, help me out, thanks so much!

    • @TheOriginalMechanic
      @TheOriginalMechanic  2 года назад

      Seems likely to be caused by a poor connection, probably a larger power wire. Make sure everything is clean and tight from the battery to the starter to chassis grounds. An easy thing to do is swap the starter relay with a nearby relay to eliminate the unlikely possibility of a bad relay.

    You don’t have to disconnect the battery while doing this replacement?

    I don't know how active you are anymore. But I've replaced my starter, battery and starter relay.. My mother's car STILL won't even give me a click or a turnover. All the dashboard lights, AC, horn, alarm, lights, windows and automatic locks work! But it's just not turning over. Any suggestions?

      Clean the battery cable connections. Dis-assemble them then use 220 grit sandpaper to all of the contact surfaces. Also spray De-Oxit liberally to the positive cable where it connects to the terminal. It will neutralize any corrosion. I had the same problem in the past. It worked.

      I always give this advice, but I've never been right yet, but... does it start in Neutral? Might be the neutral start safety switch / circuit.

  • @tipabr
    @tipabr 5 лет назад +1

    Do you only need to disconnect the negative battery cable? It looked like the positive cable was going to the starter...if you grounded that connection while taking off the bolt couldn't you short it? Was wondering if both battery cables should be disconnected???

    • @TheOriginalMechanic
      @TheOriginalMechanic  5 лет назад +2

      It won't hurt but you don't need to. Only the battery DC minus (not an engine ground) can complete the circuit with the positive battery terminal still connected.
