Scotty, I have a 2000 Solara with 200,000+ miles and I love it. Struts are worn out but will be replaced soon. Runs and shifts great and gets 25+ mpg. I'm 81 and will keep it til I'm gone. Greatest car I've ever owned by a long shot.
Girl that works across from me has one of these with a manual transmission. She knew what she had. Hearing her appreciation for how much fun it was to drive and how much she loved it, I wasn't sure whether I liked her or the car more!

That’s crazy, my 08 SLE V6 has 350k miles on it and it rides like it can reach 1,000,000 miles, I’ve had BMW, Big Body Benz, and Porsche, and the best automobile I’ve ever owned is my 08 SLE V6 Solara
I just bought one that is garage kept 2002 convertible , 86k miles elderly kept just sitting in a garage unused for months..guy wanted 8k since it had no spec of rust( I live in the rust belt) . But it is a 02 and needs new rubber parts, suspension ,oil, fluids, new top since old ones glass broke new tires and new timing belt. I talked him down to 3800. Was really hard convincing but I managed to make the cok smoker budge. It turned on and ran like a new car man. I just got to fix it up my mechanic said .

Judy bought one today for 1400 , , So I ended up having to get a catalytic converter and o2 sensor To be replaced other than that Love it Don’t wanna give up on it
About five years ago I bought a 2003 Toyota Solara convertible for about half of the book value. It had a lot of issues including smoking at start up and oil leaks. It was obvious that the previous owners did no maintenance. I couldn't figure out the smoking until I was changing the valve cover gaskets and noticed there was a lot of oil gunk among the valves. I started scooping out the gunk while my wife worked on the valve cover. By the time we finished there was gunk the size of a softball. No smoking or leaks since then. Like Scotty said the engine and transmission is bulletproof. Thanks Scotty for teaching me how to save so much money doing my own car repairs.
Always liked the look of the Solara. Whenever one goes by I have to almost do a double-take because I don't recognize it right away. And the fact that it looks "DIFFERENT" from all the other cars on the road is a real plus. There are a few in my town that I see often. One is the blue/grey convertible. Really nice looking! -- Thanks for the great vid. --
I bought the loaded SLE Gold Edition for 21k in 2000. I still after 20 years have it as a daily driver. After 20 years... everything still works perfectly. Tried selling it on several occasions but no one thought it was worth it. So I’m going to keep enjoying it with only 138k on it. It might outlast me!!!! Original everything. Extremely awesome, reliable, quiet and comfortable ride. Amazing vehicle!!!! You’re right Scotty, the perfect sedan!!!!
Bought a solara a few years back and the car is a damn tank! Its like a sports car for your grand-dad. I LOVE this car, glad it got a good scotty review. I Paid a bit more than i should have but the car has been very reliable.
I bought an 06 solara used a few months ago as my first car and can attest to everything in the video. No issues so far except for the hood strut like the one in the video. Looking forward to years of routine oil changes and reliability! Thanks for the great car videos
I actually love this car. They can come V6 and 5 speed manual. There was also a TRD model and you can put a TRD supercharger on it. Fun car to drive. The interior on these are good quality too

Had a V6 99 for years - great car, smooth, quick enough and somewhat practical for a 2 door. Also looked better than 4 door Camry from the era, but shared most of the parts.
Still have my for 2000 loaded, Gold edition. She’s like new. Only 139k on her. All original and tracks straight as an arrow... super smooth ride and quiet inside.
They are! I’m still driving my 2004 Solara and it only has 147,000 miles. It’s just crazy....I bought it when I was 21. Now I’m 36. I could have it until I’m 50! 🤭🤩 When it dies, I’m definitely buying another Toyota. 👍🏼♥️ Happy driving!
Scotty just bought my 99se v6 love it goes down the freeway 80to 90 feels like 40no rattles no squeaks runs like a Swiss watch never liked Toyotas till this one and no klunksat any speed love the sunroof everything works 400,000 miles it's made a believer out of me even beats the new cars I've ownef
I'm glad the Solara gets your stamp of approval Scotty! I was looking for this video three months ago whenI bought an 03 4cyl in August with 263000 miles. It's been great, everything works and it was definitely taken care of.
I pulled a Solara out of a friend's barn. After spending $400 on brakes and tires, and having it detailed, I drove it for several years. It had a 4 cylinder engine that was plenty of engine for the Solara, and it's amazing that someone would park such a great car.
I guess I'm a weird American I love 2 door coupes they look sporty and at least my 2 door 04 cavalier you can comfortably fit 4 people in them it's just nice
I had a 2001 Solara v6 that I bought for $2500 in 2013. Sadly, in 2016 it got totaled by other driver, but the driver’s insurance gave me $5000 for the car lol. Toyotas keep their value.
Bought a 2006 a week ago and I love it! I got it for 1800 Canadian. A great deal people ask alot for them up here. It drives so smooth and no rust either I bought it for a winter car because my 2016 ram is rusting already!😑
On my 4th. I bought one with 70,000 miles and sold when it hit 240,000 and it was still going strong. Had a convertible one and 5 speed. Now have a 04 sle
I have a 99 solara v6 and I absolutely love it, no problems what so ever easy to work on, I rebuilt the enigine with stronger aftermarket parts and have no had one problem with it, highly recommend this car if u can work on cars, very good engineering toyota
Just bought an 08 v6 hard top over the weekend. Going from a ford ranger the quality and solid feel of it is amazing. Almost everything on my ranger broke or was braking, while every original part on the Toyota works well.
I have a 2004 convertible and it has 342,000 miles and runs like a tank. No problem in the winter's of New England as well and the Summer time is great with the top down. Feel like a Rock Star driving it. The Stereo sounds Awesome. I can't think of anything bad about it. Thanks for this. I wanted to hear what other's had to say about it.
There are a few Solaras in my neighborhood. The owners never drive them in the winter up here in the rust belt. It appears these Solaras will last forever.
I had a silver 2000 SE and lost it in a wreck, someone ran a red light and I parked her inside the side of a Corolla. In 7 yrs, all I ever had to do was brakes, oil, filters and tires. I'm on my second one which is a pearl white 99 SLE. All I've done in 2 yrs is tires and replaced the original 23 yr old alternator. Love these cars!!
Hey Scotty. I've gotta agree with you on this one. These Solaras are dirt cheap here around Nashville so I just picked up an '07. The seller just wanted to get rid of it since it had a little body damage and some codes. A little body work and a new gas cap solved it! It's basically a convertible Camry that's actually quite sporty. Reliable and fun!
TableRocked very nice. I had an older Mustang I only drove in summer years ago. Garaged the rest of the time. My current house has no garage so no toys. Well, a big truck that wouldn’t fit in a garage anyway…
Explorer VanGo most Solara I see are in great shape. I’m surprised and the design isn’t outdated at all. Most of them are super loaded also. I think since they are mostly owned by older ppl they are taken care of better.
Just got a 2003 Toyota Solara convertible with 104,000 mi on it! Couple scratches and dings but overall in great shape! Thanks for the suggestion Scotty!
I drove a twilight blue 99 V6 manual to 332k miles until so many parts were starting to wear out that the upkeep bill was just too much, so I let it go. It was the perfect balance of practicality and fun, with reliability and comfort included. Still miss it.
Should've mentioned how large and practical the rear seats were lol. Thats the reason my Dad sold his Mustang convertible and got an 0'4 Solara so he could fit a car seat in the back.
I bought my 2002 convertible 2.6 SLE in 2009 with 56K miles, second owner from Lexus dealer...it’s still running fine with 200K miles... now I will never let it go & just fix it up ❤️ Thx Scotty for this stamp approval 😘
I have a 2007 Solara. Baby girl is a little under the weather but I'm going to get her back to 100% again. She has been super reliable and still runs excellently. She has over 220k miles!
Great video Mine is a 2000 Solara, red with beige conveyable top I named 🍒 Cherry. It gets complements often and runs like a top. Best for warm climates and cities with smooth roads. Got mine in South Florida. I absolutely love my 🍒 Cherry
Hay, Scotty! I've been looking for a Solara Coupe for about 2 years now, and there hard to come by! From the 1999s through to the 2008s. But everybody and his brother has a convertible for sale it's exasperating! I found a 2006 Solara Coupe last week but the dealership sold it before I could get the loan togather. One more thing Scotty, back in 2000 to 2001 Toyota built a Solara with the 3.0L v6 and a manual transmission, I know they did, but it's like finding a Unicorn anybody who has one will not sell it. Oh yeah, keep up the good work Mechanics, I mean real Mechanics,"not these parts replacers", are also in short supply these days. It's great that guys with your integrity are still around. You my friend would make a good Mechanics instructor.
Shhhhhhh! I already got my eyes on 3 solaras so far. All 3 are 2003. Will get one by next month. I like it that there are not a lot of buyers out there. Makes it more valuable for me.
I watch all of Scottie's videos and didn't know he had one about the Solara. I have a 99 3L V6 . 175,000 miles on it and can honestly say I'll more than likely own it till it falls apart. Hopefully in another 100,000 miles.
Just ran across this video. I own a 2001 Toyota solar, 4 cyl, manual transmission, around 270,000 miles. Everything still works, the AC blows cold, sunroof still opens and closes, electronic driver seat works, full size spare tire, THE BEST PART, it’s been paid off for 5 years. No car payments
Hi Scotty, love your channel. I'm 63 years old, have been working on cars my whole life. I just picked up a 2007 Solara convertible with 240K cheap. Second owner, the car runs fantastic, I'm really impressed with it. Much better than the 1994 Mustang I crashed last spring. Athough I got it for free and drove it for 12 years, so can't really complain! Third convertible in my stable, 2002 Thunderbird, 1968 Impala SS.
When we were first empty nesters, I own a 2005 4 cylinder and it was the most fun & reliable car I had for awhile. Life goes on, my son & daughter started having kids, we needed a bigger vehicle, & in 2009 I bought the V6 Venza! Sad to say they stopped making Venza too, mine now has 93000 and looks great, my buddy I hadn't seen in a awhile thought it was new model. When I told him it was `over 10 years old, he said it looked better than his 4 year old ford. According to my mechanics they seen newer ones go 200,000 without major troubles. Thanks Scotty great review.
I just had my neighbor give me 1 of the 2000 toyota solaras for free! I did some electrical work at there home and wow. 113,000 miles.... Needs a timing belt, water pump, t stat, air fuel sensor bank 1, rear struts!
You said what I said almost 3 years ago. I found my baby! Or she found me. I have a 99 SLE! NOT FOR SALE as they say! Still moves out. 6.8 to 60 still isnt shabby today.
As I was listening to this video a very pretty red Solara pulled into the lane next to me. I had a friend who had one about 10 years ago and she liked it a lot. They were always nice cars.
Hey Kilmer I found a unicorn ... '06 Solara Convertible that has 62,000 miles, sat mostly for the last 5 yrs , first owner put 30,000 in two years nd the second owner 30,000 in 12 yrs. The paint is whack from rock chips on the hood to garage scrapes on two corners, headlights were a bit cloudy,. I buffed them out. The tread was good but the tires had rot so I bought tires and they didn't realize the check engine light was for a faulty gas cap.. The engine purrs and it gets about 24 mpg .and its a SLE with cassette stereo!!!

Had a V6 99 for years - great car, smooth, quick enough and somewhat practical for a 2 door. Also looked better than 4 door Camry from the era, but shared most of the parts.
Love my Solara, I have red one just like the one youre standing in front of. It's an awesome five speed. Love this car.
Still have my for 2000 loaded, Gold edition. She’s like new. Only 139k on her. All original and tracks straight as an arrow... super smooth ride and quiet inside.
Got an 01 myself with 147k, purrs like a kitten
I'm on my second Solara, just a fantastic, reliable fun car. Scotties review is accurate.
Question how about when is snow time ??
When I got my ASE cert years ago, kid in my class loved his Solara, so much he had a custom leather interior stitched up.
I'm a Toyota tech, K bought a 2000 Solara SLE pearl white w/charcoal leather. Bought new and she has 418,000 miles. I love her.
My insurance company checked my RUclips subscriptions. When they saw Scotty, they lowered my insurance rate to $0/month.
Jorge Lopez Now you can get a newer solara lol
Bought a 2006 a week ago and I love it! I got it for 1800 Canadian. A great deal people ask alot for them up here. It drives so smooth and no rust either I bought it for a winter car because my 2016 ram is rusting already!😑
On my 4th. I bought one with 70,000 miles and sold when it hit 240,000 and it was still going strong. Had a convertible one and 5 speed. Now have a 04 sle
TDog, how much did you sell for?
I have a 99 solara v6 and I absolutely love it, no problems what so ever easy to work on, I rebuilt the enigine with stronger aftermarket parts and have no had one problem with it, highly recommend this car if u can work on cars, very good engineering toyota
I was planning on buying a solara a while back
Heywood Jablowme .... lol
Same here
There was one local guy who owned one. He was kind of pudgy. i think you dodged a bullet (Poor resale value)
They were built on the Camry platform.
Paul Hoskins they were called the Toyota Camry solara at 1st
Just bought an 08 v6 hard top over the weekend. Going from a ford ranger the quality and solid feel of it is amazing. Almost everything on my ranger broke or was braking, while every original part on the Toyota works well.
I have a 2004 convertible and it has 342,000 miles and runs like a tank. No problem in the winter's of New England as well and the Summer time is great with the top down. Feel like a Rock Star driving it. The Stereo sounds Awesome. I can't think of anything bad about it. Thanks for this. I wanted to hear what other's had to say about it.
Toyota breaks
Scotty: “Just use a piece of plastic to hold up the hood”
Any other car breaks
Also Scotty: “Its an endless money pit”
Jacob Cornelius still true tho lmao
A hood prop is not a significant component on any vehicle
No doubt. Scotty is a dinosaur ;).
Ahah
Completely agreed with you
I have a 99 solara with the 3.0 v6 it's the most reliable car I have ever owned I love it
I have the same car Troy. 320k and still rollin'.
There are a few Solaras in my neighborhood. The owners never drive them in the winter up here in the rust belt. It appears these Solaras will last forever.
My mom gave me her 2006 Solara 3 years ago for my birthday and it is still running great!!
I have a 2002 Solara hard top with a moon roof. Who need a convertible. Love the car!
Lonnie T. Coupe was way better. Lighter too and the sunroof was a decent size. It looked better too imo.
@@sheldonm3535 the 2000 Solara convertible has the same design as the 1999 coupe Solara, it just has a sun roof so no problem.
Same!
Having had both, id say definitely a car with a moonroof is better than a convertible.
Me to
Just saw a convertible today. Looked brand new. Must be garaged most of the year here in Wisconsin.
Love my 2000 solara. Still going but only has 148k on it. Solid strong reliable. One of the best cars I've owned and seen
Just got a 2003 Toyota Solara convertible with 104,000 mi on it! Couple scratches and dings but overall in great shape! Thanks for the suggestion Scotty!
I love watching Scottys videos! No one else on you RUclips is honest and straightforward like him and he still makes me laugh with every video!
Hes a relic of original RUclips.
A good friend of mine mother had one, a misty blue convertible. Very strong and well made car....very nice!!!
Had this car for 16 years. It was reliable, comfortable, and actually quite fun to drive. One of the best car my family has owned.
I think im buying one soon! Im 18 & i think its perfect cause I have no kids so it’ll be fun I hope!
@@rosalia3468I’m 19 and just bought an 08 v6 convertible and it’s amazing
I've loved all the Toyotas I've owned. On my fifth. 2006 Solara V6 SLE. Solid car.
I drove a twilight blue 99 V6 manual to 332k miles until so many parts were starting to wear out that the upkeep bill was just too much, so I let it go. It was the perfect balance of practicality and fun, with reliability and comfort included. Still miss it.
I love this video!! I had a 2000 Solara V6 with manual trans for 12 years. Scotty nailed it
Should've mentioned how large and practical the rear seats were lol. Thats the reason my Dad sold his Mustang convertible and got an 0'4 Solara so he could fit a car seat in the back.
Haha I had a bunch of friends who drove BMW and were always shocked on the space I had in the backseat
I have an 03 convertible and I love it still. I’m putting some aftermarket Lexus parts on it
Thank you very much for including the Toyota Avalon in the conversation on this video. I would love to see you talk about the Avalon much more often.
I loved my solara. Those things are awesome and super comfy
My ex had one of this 1998 pearl white with a sunroof v6 lots of power. 👌
just bought an 00 solara off of craigslist. 161k miles. $2200! im glad i made the right choice.
256603 in mine right now. It needs too many parts but engine keeps rolling. It loves the 93 I put in it but it’s getting pricey.
Just had mine for a few months now as my first car. Absolutely in love with it
thanks scotty for keeping mè entertained after work in my evenings!!REV UP THEM VIDEOOOS!
I have a 2002 solara, hands down my favorite car I've ever owned. I only wish It had the 3.0 v6 like my first one
Great video
Mine is a 2000 Solara, red with beige conveyable top I named 🍒 Cherry.
I have a 2003, great choice!
@@captmorgis my 03 sle convertible has treated me very well i hope yours has done the same!
Thanks, Scotty. I see a few of them still on the road, which to me is a sign of a good car.
I own one. Very solid car. Only few things wrong with it I'm too lazy to fix. Should soon tho
I see at least one Solara (besides my own) every day. Makes me feel more confident in my choice.
Just bought a 2006 V6 Solara heated leather seats with ONLY 55,000 miles! 😃
If you mind me asking, how much did you pay?
@@grimenigma $7500 bought from a dealership
@Endrit Prelvukaj totaled it 2 weeks ago, got rear ended but it was a good car for me
I love my Solara convertible. It's a fantastic smooth ride. I don't drive it in the winter with snow and ice on the road, however.
I still have mine 2002 SLE V6, 113,000 miles, love it. I'll keep till the wheels fall off lol.
I watch all of Scottie's videos and didn't know he had one about the Solara. I have a 99 3L V6 . 175,000 miles on it and can honestly say I'll more than likely own it till it falls apart. Hopefully in another 100,000 miles.
Just bought one for my wife for 1600 with 250k miles still rides and shifts like a beauty 👌🏽
Had a 03 Solara. Such a great vehicle.
Scotty how many customers have asked “If I knew my car was going to be in a video I’d have cleaned it out first!?!”
I think they all live out of their cars,,lol..
I'm pretty sure it's one of those things where he will give you a discount if you agree for it to be in a video
Had one with undergrlow and lowering springs. Handled so well and looked cool
Great, now solara prices are gonna go up and I won't be able to afford one 😂
They don't make them
Just bought mine @ 2,800 no regrets
Just got one for 700 I love it 🥺❤️
Looking at a 2009....im mot 💯 sure yet though
@@janessarene5013 I got one for 800
When we were first empty nesters, I own a 2005 4 cylinder and it was the most fun & reliable car I had for awhile.
I drove this at Hertz many occasions. It was quiet and peppy!
They always caught my eye , they still do ! I would luv to own one. You never know, maybe I will come across one cheap ? TY Scotty ! 😁✌
You said what I said almost 3 years ago. I found my baby! Or she found me. I have a 99 SLE! NOT FOR SALE as they say! Still moves out. 6.8 to 60 still isnt shabby today.
runs like a clock
runs like a top
runs like a dream
lol
Runs like Forrest Gump.
Runs like Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
*_NO MAN'S LAND_*
John wick The Winter Soldier it doesn’t blow up like abu bakar al bahgdadi though....
It's venerable
