Take a look at this guy , he's a genius , he's gifted and his skills and understanding are are light years above the average human being , but yet he's humble and willing to share . We could all learn something from this kind of person .
You’ve got that right!
Just like elon musk......
As a young apprentice mechanic, I would have a question on how to do something. Some journeymen were helpful while a few would point to the manuals room and say "everything you need to know is in there". I figured out they were insecure personalities that had the thought that if they taught me what they knew, I would know that and possibly more. The threat for them was that I could then replace them. This irritates me to this day. If someone is willing to learn what I can possibly teach them, I have no problem taking the time to explain.
This guy is a rare human being. Talent and skill in their purest form.
Humble, too
And Rod would REALLY be interested in his work... Rod’s work is all hand done as well, and a super super cool guy
@@Jlinwoodjackson And self-taught. Talent on loan from God.
For such a talented man, he seems very, humble...
Nice quality, thats very rare in artist these days!...
He was hesitant to even call it art. Clearly though these could be hanging in any gallery.
What a talented young man, simply amazing that this car was built using a English wheel and flat sheet metal. As a bodyman myself I have nothing but the highest and utmost respect for what he has done here. As Jay said “just unbelievable”. Very cool. Thanks to Jays garage for posting
You said it.
Amazing
The amount of craftsmanship is off the charts. And this guy is self taught? Wow.
raspucin70
It shows ....
Most metal formers are self-taught, as so few of them exist....
This guy is as much an artist as an engineer - hand hammered bodies, wow.
He's been anointed to create cars and etc...
Jesus, this dude went back into the talent line about 20 times more than normal. Beautiful work man.
Welcome To The Madness he's self taught, that's great. Hope he gets into aircraft.
Well done, very special stuff. Kudos to a great artist/engineer/craftsman....but what sort of windshields are used?
Welcome To The Madness no question. He was a pro snowboarder too back in the 90's.
@@stevenvilardi8626 I'm sure if you watch a few of his build videos you will find out, I watched it and it did mention the windscreen being from a porsche or something, it was actually at the centre of the whole build.
Beautiful. This talented well spoken young man has an old soul. Rolling bespoke art. Thx for showing these.
I saw these cars in 2017 at the Minnesota Cars and Coffee. Christopher is amazing to talk to. A true talent for sure.
We race with our minds and forget our hearts, and there along come people like him that stay with their hearts and remind us of them in the process. Such an amazing guy. His attitude, his credo. If more were around, we'd have a better world.
aserta Irie mon !!!
agreed Nicest sweetest Humble guy you could ever imagine. Beautiful amazing Motorcars!
One of your best shows Jay! He’s definitely an artist.
These Aluminum bodies are really inspiring to look at. Makes me want to retire early and start (learning and) building. Thanks Chris and Jay.
Why cant artists and sculptors like this be celebrated more? This man is a modern Leonardo Da Vinci + Galileo + Michelangelo if I may be so bold. Artist, Sculptor, Architect, Engineer. Notwithstanding the fact that Da Vinci alone was all of these things! What superb cars these Runges are!
I love how Jay brags on this young man. That is some incredible craftsmanship no doubt.
Christopher Runge is first of all a warmblooded enthusiast. His creations are sculptures, made with love and a lot of hammering. And Chris is such a good inspiration to young people to get into this amazing craftmanship. And yes, Christopher, you are right! You have the soundssystem right behind teh seats. I salute you!
Simply beautiful! The conceptualization, craftsmanship and sheer amount of manual effort is absolutely mind numbing. What a nice, humble and accomplished young man! Great episode Jay!
IMPRESSIVE, VERY IMPRESSIVE, that young man is a genius
New blood with an appreciation for the old. Pretty f'ing great!
This guy is an amazing artist.
OMG, those cars are gorgeous! The man is incredibly talented.
It's amazing that a guy of this age has, not only, the confidence and drive to do something like this, but also the skill, and self taught too. Incredible pieces of design and engineering. I wouldn't know where to start!
Huge respect,this is real work
Christopher Runge builds the most beautiful works of rolling art in the world.
Jay, I'm amazed you aren't just giggling like a mad man driving that it sounds as good as it looks.
Self taught,lm impressed. I'm self taught and after 34 years lm still learning new things. With that R2,it will raise him to a whole new level. Hand built cars are simply priceless. Congratulations on your future success. A true Craftsman.
It's nice to see Jay have people like this on here. This guy has pure talent! Just when you thought you saw it all. Hats off to you sir. Beautiful piece of art/machinery.
Best JLG video in a while. Great cars, talented builder, improved colour grading, and the sound has finally been fixed.
My gosh...25:14 rear quarter view driving along that California hwy is just so beautiful!!
6:40 A phrase I have never used. "One of my Miuras"
6 people on this planet get to say that. Okay maybe 12.
then start using it. i saw one coming toward me in north carolina. i was like "is that a muira?" it was.
same thing happened with a porsche 959.......small town area, not the highway.
Ehehe:
Buy a computer game called Assetto Corsa, and download some cars.
You can then say that about practically any famous car. :p
he is right I did body work and painted a Miura back in 1987 and the metal is thin , under the engine lid and hood you can see the handcrafting of the metal , not like a production car at all , also repaired a Testarossa nose the parts came from Italy full of grind marks all over the place i had to do sanding and filling plus primer in order to make them like when the car was new
I have! Great hot wheels!!
Jay's in his element... What constantly amazes myself as a car guy is Jay's vast knowledge of automotive history. This is now probably one of my faves.
Wow!!! Chris Runge is an artist.
Inspiring show Jay, the kid has a gift and your encouragement seemed heartfelt.
What I like about Jay's cars is that instead of making them look perfect and just for looking he actually drives them!
Love his comment about the sound system right behind them. I got to ride in a Ferrari once and just making dumb conversation I asked if he ever uses the radio because he had nothing on. He just said "yeah, let me turn in up for you..." and then just matted the gas pedal.
Very funny!!
Amazing, it's so encouraging to see this young man go after his dreams of building cars and that's what this country is all about. Great job!
It's great to see a young Man, so proud of his heritage, and building incredible art.
the heritage part was kinda cringe not gonna lie
@@SageManeja You're kinda cringe.
@@SageManeja yeah lol imagine being german lmao
Love this guy's enthusiasm and passion. You can tell he really enjoys what he does and what he's accomplished with these machines.
What a humble and talented guy! Now this is craftsmanship! 🙂
Like Hugh, Jafro said, "this is art." It is like a sculpture in aluminum. Amazing work! There is a real genius to these builds.
this guy is a true artist, his cars will become collectors for sure.
Christopher Runge seems like a genuinely nice person. His creativity and craftsmanship is amazing. It's so refreshing to see a person like him.
This man’s enthusiasm is fantastic. His passion for the automobile is contagious. He has a Howard Hughes eks to his passion. His cars are works of art. Beautiful mechanical marvels they are...
This car has an Auto-Union feel about its look, which is the highest compliment I could pay any vehicle. As an armourer myself, form and proportion are my daily concern, and this front-end satisfies all my OCD wants. BRAVO
I saw this guy on Jalopnik and was thoroughly impressed and with the roof on I am floored. Excellent work!
This episode was definitely a treat especial. To have the creator/designer with his creations and being able to receive immediate answers to those specific questions/challenges is awesome! More videos like this Jay! 🤙
Chris pointing to the back " we've got a $10,000 dollar sound system right here" , Classic . Beautiful job!!!
That car is absolutely gorgeous... It truly is a shame that handcrafted metal work is becoming a lost art. My dad could make anything out of a sheet of metal and have it look like a piece of art... He taught me a lot but when he passed so did a tremendous amount of skill that will be lost forever. This car is awesome... Takes me back to a bygone era of cars and drivers. Sort of reminds me of a Porsche 917 had it been built in the 50s... Thanks Jay for another absolutely great Garage episode.
Outstanding. Nothing more needs to be said.
This video is quality from start to finish, the cars, the knowledge and skill of the builder, Jays interview and pacing. Thanks Jay.
If I ever get the money... This is what I want. Probably the most beautiful cars i ever seen. Wonderful work... Please keep creating more beauty like this.
What a great video of Runge and his work! I have been following him on Instagram for a while now, and it's great to see his machines take shape. He's an amazing craftsman.
It's nice to see two guys talking about the minute of car designs.
As a guitarist who prefers the Fender side of things... i was super psyched to hear that he upholstered his doors with tweed from a tweed amp!
Can anybody imagine a world WITHOUT JAY LENO!! just thinking about it makes me shudder,The world needs you Jay so dont go away, dont worry about going grey we just need you to stay, THANKS JAY regards J.T at 73!
Job well done. To take the time, effort, and self taught in creating this art=mobile is inspiring.
Its just nice to see a clean cut un tatted guy who looks like hes from the 50s building cars at a young age. I think hes as cool and mature as his cars.
Just found this totally amazing video....... Jay's enthusiasm for these stunning cars is obvious.....This guy is truly gifted to envisage and create these gorgeous one-offs.......This is why I love this channel. Pure genius stuff.
I love that Jay has these master craftsman show these kind of gems to us. Art and cars are one in the same at this level. Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship
Jay Leno could add video field trips of the garages and skilled employees that build cars he shows. Instead of just finished products.
Look for Runge cars on RUclips to see some videos of him doing the metal work on his vehicles. Amazing stuff. The metalworking skills required to hand form the complex curved surfaces boggle the imagination.
Will Cushman, I have watched all of Chris' videos. Great work!
You know what? Thank you Jay for bringing this young, passionate car enthusiast to my attention, I almost missed this in my personal 62 year long car nut recording. In the first seconds of the show, I said 300SL, then 360, then...He's a honest to goodness artist engineer hands on focused positive force.
What a great platform for a young master to show off his craft
A young expert craftsman who matches his expertise with his humility. 👍🏻
Watching this more, possibly the most stunning workmanship & cars i've seen on this channel.
God bless you Jay Leno for appreciating the incredible hard work that goes into making 'simple' things like...doors! Testify to Runge's hard work, skill and craft. Thank you both.
It looks both modern and classic at the same time.
What a great car. I am truly impressed by this young man. What talent and drive.
Some people work in a cubicle, then there's this guy. Congrats and more power to you.
Jay, we can tell just by the length of this video how much you like his work.
Man does that car look awesome driving down the road...timeless excellence.
How could ANY body not appreciate this artisan, Christopher Rünge and the breathtakingly beautiful bespoke vehicles he creates. I agree that it has to be genetic that his name is related in German to a carriage builder...This is just sensational...Thanks again Jay!
You've obviously never seen high quality aluminum bodywork.
No Larry please show us a young kid who by himself completely made a aluminum car by hand ? waiting?
He's hardly a kid. He's a hack. Here's how you make a STRAIGHT aluminum bodied car: ruclips.net/video/O4XcDzotE3Y/видео.html
Oh your comparing his work to the Kirkham Motorsports factory in Poland. Kirkham Motorsports has 46 employees with three generations of craftsmen and an estimated annual revenue of 1.471.769$. Hardly an honest comparison. I think your the hack with your negative comments.
Kirkhams bodies are stretch formed Larry. Do some research buddy. You’re welcome to visit my shop and we can go over a few things.
This Guy and His Cars are Awesome... The Old School Guys must Love This...
He is Truly Talented.!! .. The Craftsmanship is Incredible.!!
These Cars Are Excellent Indeed.!!
Great Video Jay.!! .. This is Why I Love Your You Tube Channel.!!!
This guy's a hack. Take a close look at a Kirkham 289/427 Cobra replica to see real aluminum craftsmanship. Also Marcel's Custom Metal Shaping.

Larry Smith yeah so kirkham's are made on a shoestring college student budget...
that's what you're saying for a fair comparison? 😐
Thank you Mister Leno for putting that young man out there.
What a really nice talent for real.
I really like both of those vehicles that he made.
And it's great to see you supporting it too.
Back in the 70's my grandmother's friend had worked in an aircraft factory making skins on an English Wheel. In her retirement she had her own wheel & made all kinds of neat stuff. She made a mock gas tank for my bicycle. She made a few bodies for pedal cars.
When I was a little older I tried to learn & it's very difficult. There is a real art to rolling metal like that. I managed to make some parts that looked like post crash aircraft parts. :)
Very impressive work.
Wow, awesome talent, very cool cars!
WOW Amazing this young man build this car with his own two hands self taught.Love it
This is one of the best hard work, simply amazing, awesome, splendid, and all the good adverbs one can possibly use
Beautiful craftmanship! It's great to see a young guy learning an age old craft while he's building these cars, In addition, he's a very humble guy. I wish his the best of luck going forward.
A young master
Beautiful car, love the imperfections gives them character.
FANTASTIC.thanks Jay a great video ,two beautiful cars and a young man flowing with talent.
Beautiful car, Chris what amazing workmanship. Thanks Jay !
At 27:06 you can really see the slight asymmetry... left hand headlight and arch is a bit higher and tumblehome of the front fenders don't quite match. I like these imperfections because you immediately know all the panels were beaten by hand. If you can afford one of Chris' cars, better get in line now because these early examples will be more valuable in years to come.
Incredible craftsmanship. The amount of skill involved in building this is very impressive.
PS. I would have loved to see the footage of Jay climbing into/out of this car XD
What a terrific guest, he makes you want to take-on a big project! Very inspiring.
This has become one of my favorite channels on youtube! Just wish he posted more often!
Gorgeous machines. I can imagine if you put a 200+hp engine in one the power to weight ratio would be insane
7.5lbs/hp. Insane. That's good motorcycle territory.
Wow, this is rolling art. Love this.
car guy here........I believe that there is beauty in almost all cars of every era and I put these cars with the great ones of the 50s and early 60's. Bravo.
This is without amy doubt the most inspirational JLG video that I have watched.
Wonderful work. Really enjoyed watching this episode. Awesome.
Wow, I LOVE THOSE CARS! One of my favorite episodes here Jay, really cool, interesting cars. Man if I had the money...
Beautiful work, I like how he makes it believable that a single guy can teach himself metal working and make a career for himself building cars in his shop.
What a guy, incredible work and thought process. Huge respect for doing this.
Some of the most beautiful cars that I have ever seen, these are.
It's about as close as you can get to a postwar racer. In the late 40's, early 50's it was easier to get aluminum than steel in Europe, cars like these were handcrafted in sheds with tweaked engines like 2cv Dagonnet, Peugeot 402 and 203 Darl'mat, Renault Boudot twincam, Constantin Supercharged flat-twin Panhard, Alpine A106...
It's an amazing job, although I'm not a big fan of KDF !
Agreed! Post WWII in Europe you worked with what you were lucky enough to get your hands on. Same in Japan.
Amazing . This guy knows what he’s doing and will only get better. Great job man
Really enjoy watching this channel. Regarding the discussion on oil used, think Chris was trying to say to Jay that the grade of oil (thickness) specified in air cooled engines is also
dependant on the climate the vehicle is been used, basically thinner oil in a cold climate and thicker for a hot climate.
Most impressive cars you have had on your show! A lost talent, would love to have something like this, just afraid to see the cost of this... beautiful
Self taught... amazing! Wish I could see what this guy will be doing in 20 years, but I won't (unfortunately) be around.
Same here.
I will, I'll let you know when I get there too.
Why ? How old are you :( ?
What an amazing piece of art. Just beautiful
This dude does great work. He should be proud cranking out vehicles like this by hand.
The look on his face was German AF when jay told him to run 20 weight LOL
Lol, Definitely. Okay Jay... I’m not going down this path...
Yeah, exactly. Some air-cooled aviation engines like Aeroshell 100W for temperate climates, which I believe is equivalent to SAE50.
