You can clean the heads on the VCR very easily by first removing the top cover. Then use Q-tips dipped in rubbing alcohol clean the outside vertical surface of the big round polished aluminum head, paying particular attention to the spots which look like there are windings embedded on the surface. Just make sure you don't leave any Q-tip fibers on the head. I learned this back in the '90s when I was a military journalist working in a couple different tropical locations. We constantly had to clean the heads on our cameras and video playback machines due to the humidity. Good luck!
As an fellow 80's child I am disappointed that you cant recognize a VCR tracking issues when you see one. Before auto trackers we were masters at those manipulating those little rotors to get the video as good as possible.
The vcr you got in that van is fine it's not broken. The problem you are facing is because when vcr's are sitting for a long time they tend to collect dust inside and that is the reason why you have that snowing screen. Take off the top cover of the vcr and "carefully" try to clean all the parts with alcohol using a q tips or whatever they called that you are cleaning your ears with. Mainly try to clean the chrome wheel in there it's very important that it's super clean. Once you do that put the tape back in and enjoy the movie)

About the VCR: dirty heads. Easy solution: use a long cotton swab with alcohol and put it inside the device and clean the equipment there. You'll see the cotton coming out rusty or even black. Better solution: remove the top cover from the VCR and do the cleaning from there. In both cases make sure the alcohol evaporates from the reading heads before inserting a cassette. Good luck.

In the conversion van. The vcr is just dirty and needs the tracking set. For the tracking, there should be a set of buttons or a dial on the vcr(or remote) to dial it in(then clean if you want). If not, replace it with a dvd player (still old school like the van).

Hoovie your ancient VCR is doing that because it’s old and hasn’t been used in a while. You just need to open it blow some air at the area that reads the VCR tape film which looks like shiny cylinders. Then close it back up and try to put the Tape back in and run it. You should be good after that.
VCR heads need cleaning. Unplug & open it up, spin the drum manually and look for the little heads (2-4, depending on model), wipe across the head with q-tip soaked in IPA, reassemble and test.
The VCR on the van- I used to be a nightclub DJ in the 90's and had several VCRs to maintain. A bad tape has left some magnetic residue on the VCR read heads. The heads can be cleaned with rubbing alcohol on a q-tip swab and you'll be good to go. However, the bad tape must be dumped and never used again, or you'll have the same problem. The smallest crinkle in the video tape can loosen magnetic material, and the smallest bit on the read heads will mess up the picture and audio, as demonstrated by what you saw playing the tape. Hopefully thats your only problem and it can be fixed.
You need to adjust the tracking on the VCR. Not sure of the make and model, but there might be a pair of buttons which say "Tracking" or it might be a setting in a menu.
The VCR head is dirty and you use to be able to get a VCR head cleaning tape which came with some cleaning fluid , you would put a few drops of the cleaning fluid on the white fabric film of the cleaning tape and pop it in the VCR and let it play for 30 seconds or so which would clean the head .
That vacuum system doesn't sound very clever though... they've made the same mistake as Citroen with hydraulics back in the days. A little leak could cause great problems...
That VCR needs a head cleaner. If you can’t find that, you can take a sacrificial tape and FF with the head engaged, (FF with image onscreen) to the end, REW with head engaged, repeat until image clears.

Agreed. That was BS and it lit a big fire deep down since until the e90 nothing 3 series was horrible that you couldnt fix it with basic tools. Except for the fuel tank replacement on the m56 they e46 was typically sold since most had m54s
@@JAYD3EChannel Exactly, they're not that bad, I'll admit my E90 has had it's days, but even that hasn't been too difficult to work on, even with some limited knowledge.
You might be able to fix the VCR with denatured alcohol and a q-tip. The heads are likely gunked up. The head is the thick shiny hockey puck that spins kinda diagonal. the slight slits on the lower edge are the read heads, and dust will screw up their ability to read the magnetic field of the tape.
Hoover. Re the van. Rip the tv and surrounding panel out. Put in a flat LCD. Bigger screen. You will make room behind to add vcr tv tuner DVD radio. Or add all in one pc for screen and or laptop. Then can link with phone. Or smart tv. Limitless options to upgrade.
Make sure it's on the right channel. i.e. TV probably needs to be on channel 3 or 4 as it uses the coax input unless TV has actual video input. If you have a modern TV with a coax, try it instead to rule out/confirm if TV or VCR is having issues.
VCR is damaged heads. The unit needs to be replaced. If you look at the unit inside, there is a round cylinder with a groove in it and two tiny heads in that groove that spin very quickly. Aligning them can help, but when it's this far out, it's got damage to one of these little assemblies or is so dirty that it barely gets any signal. The heads are aligned as precisely as hard drive heads, though with larger tolerances for distance, of course. This is not something you can fix or adjust yourself and even cleaning it with a Q tip can put them out of alignment. The unit looks to be a $100 (back then) budget model, so anything new should work fine. Why it has sound is because the sound is picked up on the main rotating drum as a separate track, similar to a cassette tape.
Your presentation on Barrett-Jackson was quite impressive. Daddy Doug must be so proud (and jealous). It's great that you have stayed true to your "Hoopie Heritage".

We're making no comments on any BJ experience.
i will - went to a bon jovi gig last year, didn't like it.
i mean the bj was ok, but all those people watching.. no, not my thing.
@@zloychechen5150 well, I mean. I don't know if anyone can top that now
I scrolled down to if there was any .
Congratulations Tyler. I've been watching your channel pretty much from Day 1. Glad to watch your success!
The HEADS on the VCR just need to be cleaned. Use some alcohol with cotton buds...
Yes just like CDs
I was thinking it needs a tracking adjustment. Some vcr’s had manual tracking adjustments.
@@kevinleet3413 they must have not used a vsr before
Hoover. Re the van. Rip the tv and surrounding panel out. Put in a flat LCD. Bigger screen. You will make room behind to add vcr tv tuner DVD radio. Or add all in one pc for screen and or laptop. Then can link with phone. Or smart tv. Limitless options to upgrade.
“3 series are the worst”. Muh heart 💔
@William Crawford Can confirm mines on jacks stands with a blown up throw out bearing. Lasted 150k tho.
Honestly not that bad :(
228,000 still runs great even though it leaks a little
👁👄👁 *cries in e46*
raM3, about to go back out and continue my rear subframe bushing project.
Make sure it's on the right channel. i.e. TV probably needs to be on channel 3 or 4 as it uses the coax input unless TV has actual video input. If you have a modern TV with a coax, try it instead to rule out/confirm if TV or VCR is having issues.
Hoovie, if you suddenly hear "Mommy help me please" from the TV, get out, lock the van, set fire to it and never go back...Just friendly advice.
I usually go to my auto mechanic to have my TV/VCR diagnosed.
Older BMW’s drain my wallet, I am switching to older Benz’s, what can go wrong?
Basically nothing can go wrong. Even w211 is actually basic enough one can work on it by oneself.
mercedes best cars to work on
@@samosaarts really? I was a tech at a Benz dealership.
@@ko9446 then it should be familiar experience to you. I just bought a good scanner and have managed to diagnose and repair basically every problem.
Car Wizard is like a Garage for your cars.
I'm glad we are adults lol 😂 when he speaks about his BJ experience
Your presentation on Barrett-Jackson was quite impressive. Daddy Doug must be so proud (and jealous). It's great that you have stayed true to your "Hoopie Heritage".
TYLER PLZZ DONT SELL THE CL65
IM BEGGING YOU FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
It's the car from CarTrek, so I'm sure he's not going to sell it, considering the fact that he sold the last CarTrek car, but Ed and Freddy kept theirs.
I love that car
Finally I see Car Wizard working on a Subaru engine!!!
Is nobody going to ask why there are tights stuffed into the engine?
Is it really needed though? Never leave ports open ;)
