Many years ago, when I was about 20, I bought a 1962 Morgan +4. I thought it was the coolest car ever! And I loved the looks I'd get when I drove it. It had an Austen-Healey engine that ran just fine. The only real problem was that no matter what I did, or how many times I had it in the shop, it would always over heat. So it spent more time in repair than the amount of time I could drive it. Still, I loved it's quirks. The car had both an electric starter as well as a tool for manually cranking the engine over. But my favorite quirk was that in the owner's manual it literally said to 'periodically tighten all bolts in the car'...

So Hammond, who Clarkson said wants to be an American, went and bought the most British car ever.
Richard King I’m sure he’s been a Morgan owner for a couple of decades, whilst it is a very British car it’s closer to the American muscle car than many others, high bhp / weight ratio, rear wheel drive, no traction control. Yep he’s got an addiction to American cars but I think he’s got broader tastes than TG / GT really showed.
@@vernonbear American cars are not high power to weight at all lol. High power yes but none of them except for the Corvette are a reasonable weight.
@@jaydenbecker2757 True enough, I got my license in a 425 hp 5200 lb New Yorker! It was a slightly modified '67 and idled at just over 35 mph so I had to ride the brakes then explain why to the instructor. ON a long trip you could sleep in the back seat of you weren't much over 6' tall and was like driving your living room on the highway but the gas, the horror...the horror. About 14 imperial gallons a mile on the highway and 7-8 in the city. Mind you it was only 43.9 cents a gallon then.
What he had built is a English Car with Amarican Wheels and Italian leather interior and German headlights ..lmfao😂🤣😂

Back in the 1940s I was an apprentice in a English Ford dealership.
I worked on a Morgan. It had a Ford side valve engine and wood floors.

I visited the factory back in 2013. I was staggered how the cars were made from wood to engine. I may never buy any sports cars in my life because I'm no where near wealthy but I gotta love these cars made of soul and passion. You guys are making pure art. Hats off sir !

biggest market for convertibles per capita??? UK by a long long way. Its actually quite nice driving with the top down in a reasonably overcast day. Its cool and refreshing. When its overly hot you will find majority of people keep the top up so they dont get burnt lol

Correct, it's the B58 & ZF 8sp gearbox 👍 interestingly, they may more power than claimed in the M140i/M240i & they have lots of tuning capability (if you'd be mad enough to tune it in a Morgan)...

My moggi of many moons ago(now passed on to my nephew so still in the family) , when I had it rebuilt I chose old English white with red leather interior, it looked fantastic.

I’m a American, small town in New England. I would love this car for my town. She’s a beauty with the matte back and gray. The red interior just ties it up so well.

Toured Morgan factory last April, saw the ( I’m pretty sure) the first new chassis car, still being built. It was beautiful.
LOVE the two-tone matte-black and gloss-black.
I’ve got a 485bhp M140i and I can’t imagine how rapid that thing is with the same engine. With the same mods as mine it would be an absolute animal. Shame the exhaust sounds so muted on this though.

Don't like mat paint or finishes in general but especially in a toy like this. Big part of the ownership pleasure is polishing it on a nice summer's Sunday or in the garage during those long winter nights - then sit back listening to your favourite music admiring the nice lines and the sparkle of the paint off the garage lights.
Hammond's wife will allow to look at the car once in awhile. Frankly, he's banned from driving it; too powerful and too dangerous.
