      @@mrjjthor I originally wanted the grabber blue but couldn't get it because they had already reached the factory numbers for the blue. I settled on the performance white and was lucky that my local dealership was in line to receive a Boss from the factory. I had them order it with every option available.

    I had a 2012 Boss 302 and drove it everywhere everyday. Had 130k miles on it only changed the fluids and brakes. Best car I ever had. I put it through the ringer and it was sold until the last day I had it. Highly recommend buying one of these cars if you can get your hands on one no matter what the mileage is on it.

      Owning a 2013 Boss, i cant believe how they tested and tuned their preprod car , and not realize you could not shift gears. There was an obvious screw up between development and supply/production. The fact that i knew about that and bought it anyway say all about the passion this car awakens, despite its few flaws.

    • @scdub
      @scdub 3 года назад +10

      Yes - definitely it’s weak link, although it can be improved greatly with an MGW Race Spec shifter and the organic version of the McLeod Twin-Disk clutch. I run those along with a lightweight steel flywheel and one-piece aluminum driveshaft and it shifts beautifully and spins up faster due to the lightened rotating mass - best first mods to make imho.

    I bought a low mileage excellent condition 2012 race red boss 302 during the polar vortex of 2019. Stock Florida car. It’s been babied it’s whole life. Owned by 2 other old guys. I wanTed the 2012 over the 1013 cuz I think it looks way more badass. Had it shipped up,to Chicagoland. It’s my summer weekend fun car ..i don’t race it. Just rumble around the neighborhood....i bot it with the exhaust baffles out but it way way too loud and raspy sounding for meSo I put them back in. The car makes me feel like I’m driving a late 60s muscle car...I always drive with the red track key. And it shakes at stoplights cuz of lopey idle. They are so rare I never see them on the road. I know other newer muscle cars can run circles around me but I don’t care. I will have this car forever

    The Boss 302 is a special Mustang in many ways including but not limited to its stout forged internal 302 cu inch Road Runner engine, it’s adjustable suspension, quad exhaust, Track Key with that classic V8 lopey idle, direct link and parallel to its history, direct involvement of Carroll Shelby and Parnelli Jones, Multiple GT4 championships, very limited production and continued strong resale especially for low mileage and/or the LS. and the high water mark of the S197.
    It will be sought after by collectors in the years to come.
    MT82 fixes are available, easy and cheap.
    The GT350 can’t match any of that. It has IRS and coil overs. Full stop.

    Hi there. I'd like to clarify one point that you made about the Boss 302's engine: No, its not true forged. there's a process called PM forging, which demands powdered metal (PM) in the process, which does not have the "cold start" problem traditional forged internals would have, its also not as strong though. The first ford engines that had this were the "aluminator" crate motors, before that the modulars preferred hyper pistons in the whole series, except the terminator.
    boss 302 engine is kind of between gen 1 and gen 2, internals are like gen2, fuel delivery&on-spec is gen1 (not incl. the intake).

  • @christenn32
    @christenn32 4 года назад +18

    I really love the look of the 2011-12 BOSS, the best looking s197 in my opinion. The motor is a gem also, with forged internals you can throw tons of boost at it.

    • @lollol-xp4mc
      @lollol-xp4mc 4 года назад

      Its not meant for making huge power tho its mean for the track and a bunch of boost doesnt necessarily help it do that

      @@christenn32 this is false you can throw 20 + psi at a gt500 it has low compression boss has high compression like the coyote but ultimate power making potential is about the same as far as rwhp on stock motor both can safely do around 800+ with good fuel and good tune etc. Both have powdered forged rods which isnt as good as forged but still very capable (obviously). It really isn't about "how much boost you can take" that depends alot on fuel and compression. The gt500 runs alot higher boost for the same power because it has real low compression. So the gt500 can "take more boost" because of that alone but that doesn't really matter because both can get to 800+ fairly safely with high octane fuel and good tune. Two diff ways to make power and that really isn't the point just disagreeing with your comment about boss being able to "take more boost" than a gt500 lol.

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 2 года назад

      The roadrunner is basically a gen 2 coyote with a boss manifold on it. The bottom end of the gen 2 coyote was derived from the boss. The gen 3 is similar but added the di and more compression etc. It didn't need a boss motor what it needed was to be differentiated from the gt more than it was. Only having a gt350 manifold aka the outgoing bullet motor is ridiculous and people still Herold the Mach like it's some amazing mustang. I didn't like the new Mach from the beginning it's one of multiple things Ford has got wrong in the last 2 or 3 years and it continues.

      GT350 has better road manners, and its 5.2 is an engine like no other; however, the Boss offers a raw and pure experience that few other cars can achieve thanks to its simplicity. It's a very tough choice. They're very similar cars in so many ways, but very different in a few key areas. Personally, I'd likely choose a well looked after Boss, but mainly because I'm a sucker for the 13-14 body style, and the Boss is probably the most impressive version of that platform.

      I agree with you, but nothing is perfect! The transmission is a tough issue to fix but driveshafts are easily replaceable and there are a lot of things that you can do to improve the feel of the MT82; and if you're really feeling bold, you can swap the MT82 for a Tremec.

    It's basically the gt350's Dad. It came out and kicked the snot out of the market and then went away to make room for the GT500. I may go as far as to say it inspired gm to bring back the Z28.

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 2 года назад

      The gt500 has nothing to do with the boss or why it went away. It was planned as a 2 year run just like 69-70 from the beginning. The 12 has stripes like a 69 the 13 has stripes like a 70. It's to pay homage to the original.

    • @ErectkyleDysfunction
      @ErectkyleDysfunction 2 года назад

      @@midnight347 Who said anything about the GT500? While the return of the boss 302 paid homage to the original trans-am cars of the 70s, it did not stop there. It's target competition was the E92 M3, which it dominated. It was also affordable and candidly fast. The 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 was an incredibly successful automobile, thus making it a worthy predecessor for the now iconic 2015 Ford Shelby GT350.

      I did not because I have not had a chance to drive either of those cars; however, the Roush and Shelby are both supercharged powerhouses that are focused much more on straight-line speed than they are on cornering capabilities. I can tell you right now that while they’re all Mustangs, the Boss 302 is designed for a very different job than those two cars.

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 2 года назад

      @@GrahamCain the gt500 is a different kind of car. Like you said it's more brute power and torque and raw straight line oriented type experience. They can be good handling cars with upgrades but that isn't what they do best imo. I love my 07 gt500 it's a raw beastly car with a gen3r on it has 750/700ish to the wheels (look at that torque!) And the peak numbers only tell part of it. The driving experience is completely different. The boss is a better car if being balanced and handling matters more to you. I love them both I'd like to have a boss along with my gt500. The gt500 has a way better transmission and the old school firing order makes it sound so much better although the boss sounds amazing too (love the side pipes). They aren't really comparable one is more ideal for straight line brute muscle car performance the boss is a better balanced handling car. I don't like the roush compared to either imo the gt500 and boss are both more special. Roush is kind of overpriced for what you get imo. At the end of the day it's essentially a factory modified gt mustang it even says gt on their title. I would not get a roush over either a gt500 or a boss. Which one of those you choose depends what you want. If you want a high powered positive displacement blower car with a stout manual behind it the gt500 is the easiest way to get that and they have torque for days. If you want a well balanced handling car that can perform great na or with a power adder the boss is a great car. It's performance holds up even today. The newest mustangs aren't even much better than a boss on paper and the driving experience pales in comparison to the s197 cars.

      I have driven a GT350. They’re incredible cars and one of my all time favorites; however, the boss is better. The problem with the GT350 boils down to the chassis itself. This is something that I’ve talked about in the past that still holds true here. The s550 is an excellent platform and on paper they make for much better cars, but that isn’t everything. What’s beautiful about the S197 is that they are a simple, old-school platform. Because of this, the S197 gives the driver a raw, visceral experience that you just don’t get from the S550. For me, the Boss 302 and the GT350 are my top two Mustangs of all time, but the Boss beats out the GT350 simply because the S197 platform offers a seat-of-your-pants driving experience that the finely tuned S550 just can’t deliver.

      I agree 100% with Graham. Well said. I own a 2013 Boss, and have driven the GT350. Both are great cars, but you’re PART of the Boss, and just the driver in the GT350. I told my wife I felt insulated from the GT350, as great as it was to drive. If someone held up two sets of keys, I’d choose the Boss for the overall driving experience.

      Lol. Each and every way? Lol. The only advantage a GT350 has is IRS. GT350 flat plane crank is a novelty vibrator that has been plagued with reliability issues from day one. So much so Ford yanked it out of their GT4 cars and put back in....wait for it... the Boss Road Runner engine.
      The Boss 302 won multiple GT4 Championships. GT350...not so much.
      Add a tune and headers to a Boss 302 and your over 500 hp. Reliably.
      The market is awash in GT350s that are still being pumped out since ‘16. There are likely 15000 GT350s at this point.
      The Boss? 2 year limited production. Only 1500 Leguna Secas to boot.
      In years to come collectors will be seeking out the Boss. Market is already bearing this out.
      GT350? Again, not so much.
      Cheers.

That comment tells me everything I need to know about your “knowledge “ concerning these cars.
