But two, imo, is it also works to throw a suspect off during interrogation. It’s a random distraction that can help trip up someone while being interrogated.

He knew there was no reason to ask him a question if they already knew the answer. He knew they are not on his side or looking out for him. He knew they are capable of lying.
He decided to move in his best interest after he saw the names of his accomplices and he knew that they would work in their own best interest having not established a usable alibi for all members involved. Them having the two other names was the deciding factor.
Loose lips sink ships, Brett knew THAT. There was literally no pressure, only him drawing it out to have them show him what HE needed to decide if he was going to talk. They NEVER outsmarted him

That moment when his dad says, "What's up, bud?" and he starts sobbing is so sad. It reminds me of when I got in my first accident which was my fault. It was minor, but I felt so bad. My dad was working out of town so my mom and I called him together later that day. He wasn't mad or anything, just concerned, but hearing that "dad tone" in his voice made me cry. There's that feeling where you wish dad could just make things better like he used to but you know you screwed up too big this time. You realize it's finally all on you.

I strongly believe they were shocked when they heard he killed her. Obviously, the law allows them to get life but it’s a waste of 3 lives to have the state support 3 people for not committing or intending to commit murder.
