Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a 2024 action role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix. The game is a sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020) and the second in a planned series of games remaking the 1997 PlayStation game Final Fantasy VII. Like its predecessor, the gameplay of Rebirth combines real-time action with strategic and role-playing elements. Set immediately after Remake's events, players control mercenary Cloud Strife and a party of characters principally comprising the eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE, who embark on a journey across the planet to prevent the megacorporation Shinra from exploiting its life essence, the Lifestream, as an energy source, and defeat former elite Soldier Sephiroth, who seeks to unite with the planet to achieve greater power.
Rebirth entered production in November 2019 prior to Remake's release, and was announced in June 2022. All of the previous game's lead staff return in the same positions, but with Tetsuya Nomura as creative director instead of director, and Naoki Hamaguchi as director instead of co-director. Rebirth was released for the PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024. Upon release, the game received critical acclaim.

This is a AAAA game. I don't think every game should go as far as it does in budget, but the passion of the developers is undeniable.

If they somehow getting looking like HFW does after their performance patches...holy cow! That aside, it's amazing. They just need to clean up the performance mode. The 4k mode is incredible when you re-adjust to 30fps.

Where's the passion in butchering the story, destroying the ending of an iconic game, and putting in ten thousand worthless plotholes? Nevermind you can't move around the open world and ride on a chocobo without running into ten thousand things. Terrible gaming experience on Devs that don't give a shit about this world or it's characters.

5:36 Holy sh-t I feel old now. I was in 10th grade when FF7 came out on the original Playstation. I still remember sitting in math class and hearing the "cool kids" over in the corner talking about it, and it being such a shock to me that a JRPG was so popular that even people who weren't "gamer geeks" were playing it. Gaming is totally mainstream nowadays, but back in the early 90's video games were still seen as something that only the social misfits and nerds like me were into, especially so for genres that weren't sports games or shooters, so it was pretty revolutionary.

Finished main story after almost 140 hours. and only left the last portion of the Protorelic quest undone because frankly, I am not that good at playing games haha. I thoroughly enjoyed 95 percent of it and felt most side quests added a lot to the world and characters this time. I love that there are some battles beyond my scope that can be missed like some of the ones from classic era FF games (certain weapon battles in FF8 come to mind as I recently redid that game.)
Coming in to this I was thinking how I missed certain things from those times, how you could totally miss having Yuffie or Vincent in your party, or totally miss certain summons. You had to accidentally stumble across those things back in the late 90s games. I wanted some elements of that brought back, without holding our hand to make sure everyone finds everything. They did that to some degree in this game I think.
I was 17 when I played the original in 1998 and it forever changed my life and guided who I became on many levels. It was a piece of art that I forever compared every other story to. Its been interesting to watch them subvert some stuff, remix stuff, and find ways to still hit me in the core of my soul, even as I KNOW the story. The game still broke me up numerous times, even as I swore it couldnt do it like it did back then.
The end has a completely epic final battle that has to be about an hour long, or at least was for me. Insane.

FFVII is my all time favourite. It was my first video game, my first email contained "finalfantasy" and I even have a tattoo of Tifa.
I loved the game, I cried multiple times during my playthrough as I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I stayed all night last night to power through the last chapter and you know what? That last 15% of the game left such a bitter taste that I'm truly sad about it. Instead of this very emotional ending we got a lot of confusion... Fingers crossed we will get 3rd part in 2027 as it will be 30th anniversary of FFVI and maybe a little DLC with Vincent like we got for Yuffie.

I really think the work and art that is being put into final fantasy games is different but so incredibly well made and a lot of games can and should learn from this.
Great example for me always is the patience this game forces you to have, wich makes for a very special experience (that might sound weird but just think at the moment in the rebirth prolog where cloud has to turn this wheel to close the vent and it forces you do turn that thing like 6 times, giving you time to think about what the hell is happening around you rn; or to give another example, in the first remake game, at some point the group is in the cellar of the bar holding there meeting and cloud has to just wait. And you get bored at first, but quickly you start looking around and play darts or just appreciate details.. this to me is just incredible design, not many ppl are willing to take the risk to put it inside their game)

The game isn't challenging in a good way at all. It's just cheap nonsense like enemies abusing broken hitboxes, off screen attacks, and super armor. Meanwhile the player can get stunlocked by every poorly telegraphed attack way too easily, I got 2 tutorials in a row from being stunlocked by an off screen attack, there is so much forced damage. The AI will just sit there and block, eventually losing all HP also. The reason you had to spam potions and revives is because the game is poorly balanced, terrible clunky "action combat" very similar to Kingdom Hearts trash. The ATB system in the original is 100000000% better than this garbage in the remake. 4 hours in and after unlocking the open environment outside of Kalm and getting access to Chadley and Chocobos for faster movement (including fast travel), I can honestly say Rebirth is already doing far better than what Remake did in the same amount of time (alongside much better combat changes, specifically synergy abilities). However, my concern now is the Ubisoft-styled icons dotting the map and the "reveal towers" unlocking "points of interests" in its vicinity. At some point, that level of "bloat" is going to settle in for all of us; this will be a point of contention down the line on our respective enjoyment of Rebirth (outside of the narrative, of course, which I hear is very much divided because of how Rebirth ends).

You know when you compare this with Final Fantasy XV you have to wonder how they could've screwed up so badly with that one where the first part plays like an open world progression but the last 2/3rds just turns into a linear mess where you can't explore the other places you go to even though they look like it would be fun to explore and instead you just follow a straight line to the end after you do or do not get Ignis injured in the fight before the train.
What was different? Was it because FF VII was already made and everything was already there and FF XV was a new plot mired by todays wacky world ideology?

It really sucks how much the game has graphical issues with resolution and even low quality textures/assets. I expected to see a noticeable improvement in this game due to it being built for the ps5 but it feels visually worse in some ways than remake.
I’m surprised they released it with the issues it has. I guess I expected more polish to be honest.
The map is HUGE and I’m enjoying the game a lot but Its just a shame the quality isn’t quite up to the standards I would have expected it to be, especially for a game of this budget and scale.

Digital foundry was correct about a lot of lighting oddities that do make rebirth look worse than intermission. But to say that it wholly and ultimately looks worse just isn’t true. Tesselation is shockingly realistic. The grasslands alone are drop-dead gorgeous. But there are definite spots where there’s a randomly low texture. Could it be for optimization or a holdover from trying to optimize the game’s texture size? Idk, either or, for me the concessions in graphical fidelity are nowhere near the catastrophic level of quality that a lot of ppl seem to think they are. The average gamer will definitely be okay with this game’s graphical level. Anyone who’s a graphics enthusiast, like digital foundry, will find a lot of things to complain about. Thankfully most gamers aren’t like that.

@@johnstewart2981 I don’t think it looks bad by any means. Having said that, playing it, I can’t help but think it doesn’t look like a game that came out in 2024. It looks like it could have come out 5 years ago. Maybe even more. It might sound like I’m a hater but I’m not. I really love final fantasy 7 and many other in the series as well. I loved remake. But in a way I guess I just expected this to have more polish. They can’t say it’s a hardware limitation problem anymore. Maybe they should have moved over to unreal 5 because I feel like this game and the next one will suffer for not using a more updated engine. Imagine if they had access to nanite and the detail that could have provided.
Up close the main characters look great, detailed cloths, skin, eyes, hair etc. all very good. But the npc’s etc. just don’t look great.
I guess I’m playing it thinking it looks no better than final fantasy xv and that looked great. It really did. But it’s almost like there’s been no innovation since 2015.
I know this game is much bigger in scale but I don’t think I’m wrong in saying that whatever improvements have been made since xv have been minor changes.
The open world is really great I agree. The grasslands are very pretty, I spend almost all of yesterday exploring. I got to junon today and all I did was explore the area all day. It’s amazing how much they have expanded the world map.

    • @johnstewart2981
      @johnstewart2981 5 месяцев назад +1

@@axelstone3131 which is weird cuz imho FF16 looked insanely good on quality mode. Rebirth has lighting issues and shadow issues and texture issues very similar to FF7remake on ps4. For me, these concessions never been a concern. Like I’m looking at my tv rn playing with HDR, and my eyes feel like they’re taking in a feast of visuals.
It’s bad in Junon harbor. But I think before telling a would-be buyer to hold off on this game because of its admittedly shockingly low graphic areas, we also ought to remind them that not only does the game look incredible in the main exploreable areas, but the game is also arguably the best 3D final fantasy ever.
It might not have a lot of competition tho Lmao. But this game’s open world design is just, sooooooo so good. The towns are so well designed too. And the Chadley side content is awesome. I’ve yet to see where the story goes, but from an exploration standpoint, this game is easily, hands down, the best FF open world that’s ever been released. It doesn’t have hard competition tho Lmao, the only other one is FFXV.

The 60fps is pretty fuzzy/muddy on a 65" 4k tv. It is smooth, but I switch to graphics 30fps mode (first time using it in any ps5 game over the performance) and once you get used to the 30fps, it is so much sharper and pretty. Half the time in battles, so much is going on and you're selecting attacks from a mini menu, that 30fps doesn't really hurt this type of game. If they patch performance mode to be better like Horizon Forbidden West did, I'll definitely switch back to performance mode. The blur you get from 30 fps really isn't much different in the performance mode...textures blur out in both modes when panning the camera... 60 just does it smoother and far objects don't duplicate(double image), but things are so muddy that it's too much of a down grade to not use the 4k mode.

Fucking disappointing. More and more games are releasing with terrible visual fidelity at 60 fps on current gen consoles and its infuriating to say the least. The ps5 and Xbox series X are supposed to be these super impressive powerhouse consoles but now all the sudden developers are treating them like they can barely manage to get a game running at a solid 60 fps with 720p-1080p dynamic resolution, like it’s struggling that much. The console is a really inconsistent experience as a result, like God of War runs at an absolutely gorgeous 4k and rock solid 60 fps, then you have games like this that have to run at dogshit resolution just to maintain an almost stable 60 fps. At this point I feel like I have no choice but to buy a PS5 pro when it comes out because of how bad performance and resolution is getting in every new game for this console

I'm coming from 120+fps PC so it's possible! This is the first ps5 game I've opted to play in the resolution mode over the 60fps mode. Until they fix the 60 fps mode.... People that don't have a PC or buy the parts just don't understand that consoles are not going to be hitting 4k 60fps for quite some time. Gpus that can do this (just the gpu) costs as much and more than the entire console.

I won't say awesome. Very good. 8.5 out of 10.
99% of the minigames are boring. A waste of time. Side quests are the majority fetch quests. Nobody has learned from Witcher 3, a game where many of the side quests were better than the main story.
This is me nitpicking. I don't like a lot of the story being changed. Hate it, actually.
The game looks great. And plays excellent. I normally don't care about frame rates. This game runs and controls smoothly. Near perfection.
Voice acting is excellent. Brianna White brought Aerith to life the way I always wanted her to be.
Boss fights are awesome. Crafting has made worrying about gill a thing of the past. And the Summons are equal to that of FF16, which means they are amazing.
