    A snippet from the full David Allen interview.
    David Allen shares all of the resources he uses to get things done. The premise of David's setup is based on clarity and applying the basis of GTD to any resource.
    He finds value in Lotus Notes (IBM Notes), but he also goes deeper into why he uses this and what value he finds from GTD and being clear.

    // ABOUT ME
    My name is Francesco.
    I’m a student based in the South West of the UK, I also work with FlashSticks and Newton Mail with their marketing teams. I’m mad about technology - especially apps and software.
    I’ve been on RUclips since 2014. I’ve been making videos about how to use productivity tools and resources.
    The mission has really been to create handy tools for anyone to use to understand and implement a tool, with some extra support thrown in. I don’t believe productivity tools can solve your organization problem, but equipping you with the right ones can put you one step further.
    Drop me a tweet anytime, I’m pretty open to tech conversations: @francescod_ales

    I hate to shill for Todoist, but it's the only tool that's truly minimized how much I have to think about "what goes where". The labels, due dates, priority levels, and filters make it so I can work from within project lists without having to move tasks around. Love it.

    So glad you shared this interview. What David said about GTD being tool-agnostic is a consistent statement over decades. It always makes me smile when people comment about a GTD app when there really is none. At least none with David's trademarked imprimatur. GTD is a method, an approach, not a tool or a feature or a platform. And decades on, it still makes sense. Thank you for your very informative videos. :-)

      Thanks Eugenia, the chat was good.
      I like to probe where I can - David's approach is timeless tho!

    I used Lotus Notes back when I worked at IBM a billion years ago. It is a horrific piece of software. I think down deep David is an analog guy. Been following him for years and I'm amazed he's using any tech at all now.

      I used to a Notes specialist in the day. It was a good system prior to the net. But you’re right, I think David Allen is.basically an analogue guy. I’ve started in tech in 1980 and am still doing it. I did my degrees in psychology like David Allen. I think I was more productive before we had all this crap that I’m thoroughly addicted to than in the past. I’ve often wondered if I could have completed 3 degrees if this stuff existed which burns up hours and I sometimes really have to wonder what I accomplished or just how much time it took. And i flip between Omnifocus and Things; Chaos Control and the Hit List and then you name it I’ve probably used it. David is right. The trick to this is not choosing one thing but putting a system together that works for you without consuming ridiculous amounts of time. No task manager will make you any more efficient but as you get older your memory is NOT QUITE as acute. It helps there if you remember to look. However, some have so much written down all over the place or in one place where do you start. David Allen’s methodology makes it simple. The tech is what’s messing the whole thing up. People don’t know how to design systems. BIG PROBLEM.

    Have you read Simple Rules by Donald N Sull & Kathleen M Eisenhardt? If so are many of Brain Dump's methods transferable or can they be used in conjunction with Simple Rules?

    I replied to a fellow and although GTD took chaos and created some potential order simply if you do it that way, people don’t know how to design systems that work to manage what we have to do. No task manager will make you even a little more efficient. In fact, probably just the opposite will happen if you get addicted, don’t make a decision and play with everything under the sun. I would never have completed 3 degrees if this stuff existed when I went to school. However, today, I was trained to design systems so possibly/maybe I might be more efficient. However, I’m addicted and always think there is something better just around the corner forgetting all the important rules. David Allen is just keeping a good methodology simple in an effective way.

      Agree with this Kerry, I think there's a fine line between productivity addiction and tool addiction. You can spend your days searching for the tools, but we all know it's the doing part that will deliver the most effective results. David's methodology has helped me so much, tools or no tools, to apply to daily concepts.

    Love that - all you need is a "list manager" So true. AND... "You still have to figure out what goes where" :-) ❤️👍

    The Closest one is Nirvana, but I still don't understand why most of todo apps charge monthly. Why can't we buy them one time off?

    • @BDV000
      @BDV000 5 лет назад

      I'm leaving towards NirvanaHQ, as well. Are you using this app?

    • @simplyme9336
      @simplyme9336 5 лет назад

      For the same reason...: Because there are not many apps that do this function well... They can charge you more... Because you don't have many alternatives .

    • @ccristi08

      They charge monthly / yearly because they maintain the app and add new features over time

    The key is to have a "trusted" system, because you're effectively externalizing everything into the app/paper/whatever, so that your mind is freed up.
    David trusted Lotus/IBM/HCL Notes for decades. That could last for ever, or not.

    Though he was working with an app developer, but that project went away, sadly. I hope before he croaks, he creates a design document of his software vision-- like Ron Gilbert with the secret of Monkey Island.
