Thanks so much for this video. I've watched it several times, and for me it's one of the best ones on RUclips. I'm continuing to read David Allen's books, which are chock full of advice about how to create all the necessary aspects of a GTD system.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate you telling me that! :D Yeah, the method is amazing but as you say, there is so much good information that it might take so iterations to really understand it all!
@@emelielindstroem That's true for me. Still reading about it and looking into videos about it. Lots to understand. Until recently, I thought there was one right way to do GTD, and I was trying to discover what it was, but I've been learning that, although there are GTD best practices, there is no right way to do GTD. We can create a system that attracts us and works for us.
@@NanceClearwater I think that is a great realization! With most things around time management, productivity and what not, there isn't truly a one size fits all version because our brains are wired so differently. Also, for me at least I change how I do things at least once a year because the context changes. E.g. you buy a home and that is the most important thing, you change jobs so your tasks change and so on, and that can require adaptions as well
This is the simplest explanation for GTD! I just finished the book and a lot of information drives my brain into confusion - you really clear things up for me. Thank you so much. Is it possible for you to share digital applications that you have been using on your phone for task management?
Hi! Thank you, I'm so glad to hear that! The app I am using for task management is TickTick which I think works really good. I have the paid version but it is only 28 USD/year so it is still manageable :)
15:01 LOL the doing it is the hardest part, that needs to be talked about the MOST not least. Do you do things that are urgent? important? that excite you? for how long? how frequent? do you destress at the end of the day? what does that look like?
I understand what you mean, and I think the only one who can answer that is you, because it is highly individual how our brains work and how our task management systems can support us. In this video I talk about some good productivity tools and methods you can use, hopefully you can get some inspiration based on that ruclips.net/video/f6hilQ0xA80/видео.html
You NAILED IT! I’ve been a hard-core practitioner for 15 years as well as the primary evangelist, sharing this methodology through our organization (we have 10k+ employees). We have thousands of people practicing it and even though I’ve been through the book several times, I occasionally check RUclips to see what’s new out there. You have the methodology well understood and you did an excellent job of explaining it! Well done! One of the best I’ve come across. You are clearly an experienced practitioner.
Thank you so much, that makes me so happy to hear! I put in a lot of work into this video! I have used GTD for many years and has read the book, went on a course and much more, so I have tried to include the answer to all the different questions that I had that I thought didn't fully make sense when I started out with using GTD, to make this video really contain all the major question marks there is around GTD
Thanks so much! Been putting of reading this book for so long as I feel that I already know some of it - this was exactly what I needed to just make everything clear in my head around the GTD system!
Awesome that it helped! Yeah I think a lot of people know at least a few of the GTD methods since they are so well known so it's nice to have a summary of how the parts link together :D
Great explanation. I get so anxious when my GTD is out of order. Starting a new job soon and getting back in the swing! What apps are people using these days? I have an iPhone and use both Mac and Windows, so something web based with an iOS app would be good. The new company uses Google Business if that makes a difference.
I am using TickTick for my personal tasks. It has a small cost each year but I think it's worth it because I think it works exactly the way I want it to. I have been using Notion for my work tasks because it is so incredibly customizable (however, a bit difficult to set up from scratch). But I also recently changed jobs so now Notion is not available to me anymore so I am in the same situation. I have been trying out Microsoft planner now because I like seeing tasks in a Kanban style, but I would also appreciate any tips :)
There's something that confuses me. If today's sunday and I add to the inbox that I got a meeting on thursday, but by weekly review is on friday, doesn't that mean that the meeting won't be in my calendar until friday which might make me miss it?
I understand where you are coming from, but in the same way as you wouldn't wait with adding an urgent task into the system, the same goes with calendar events. When using the system, you don't have to wait for the weekly review to complete steps 1-3 (capture, clarify and organize). When you have used GTD for a while it goes very quickly to do step 1-3 immediately and add the "task" into the right place. The weekly review is more so that you don't leave things unattended for for too long. Hope that makes sense :)
I’ve watched a few GTD videos thought it sounded good but some concepts a little vague. Not yours though - I can see how to take my loose methods and tighten these up to work better for me. Thank you so glad I found your channel
Thank you very much. I am familiar with GTD, try to use it, but am struggling with the fine tuning. You make it all very clear. I am only sad that your video (understandably:-) is in English. I could use such an excellent intro for my German highschool students, whose English is only partly good enough.
I think I've been misunderstanding how to use GTD... am I only supposed to write down the literal next action that I could take between each review? Ex: I get an invitation to a Bob's wedding in the post. 1. Inbox -> Wedding invitation 2. Process -> Actionable (no) 3. Organize -> Calendar Check Wedding Date, (If I can go, yes I can). Then I would add "Discuss: Bob's wedding with my partner. Can he get off work?" to my action list? Or would I also add: Respond to invitation, Call work, Book flight, get present, etc... to the action lists?
I think you can be a bit flexible in your approach and do what suits you best. If you want to follow GTD strictly, you should write down all actions that are not dependent on other actions. Like for example when you have responded to the invitation you can write down "book flight" and "get present" since they are not dependent on each other, but you shouldn't write down "respond to invitation" unless you have already asked your partner. And keep track of the whole thing in the project list. Hope it made more sense :)
