For the budget minded I still see them work well. Arisaka tailcap adapter allows use of all surefire switches and end caps plus it claims to eliminate the on off.. Also a switch mount that eliminates the cheap rubber pieces. You get the lights for 80$, the tailcap adapter for 60$ and switch mount for 30$. These seem to address a lot of the issues. I've never seen the glass issue but I doubt anyone in my circle is doing the round counts you are. If you're a professional it's prolly not your best choice but for the average guy I think they're more than sufficient. Way better than the o lights that I see so many using. Thanks for the honesty and as always, great review.

Arisaka fixes all of this with their tailcap adapter that interfaces with a surefire tape switches. Fix a flickering, the electronics, and the light dying situation for pretty cheap.

Your always my final stop on product reviews. You actually run the shit out of your gear and don't sugar coat and b.s. about the quality just because it's a certain brand. Thank you, you've broke the mold of about 99% of the guntuber's that give everything they touch a glowing review.

  • @malloperator

I always appreciate your reviews Chris. Being Canadian, our access to certain types of firearms are limited, and the reviews of the aforementioned are consistently lacking (I swear to God, I see so many "out of the box" reviews with no follow up it is aggravating) but our access to lights and red dots are pretty on par (as on par as it can be) when it comes to variety of manufacturers. I consistently find myself coming back to this channel as the final word on a given product before I put my money into anything because you're one of the only people on this platform that truly puts these things to work. Thanks for consistently keeping your honesty and high-standard of quality amongst these reviews.

Arisaka makes a tailcap so that you can use Surefire tailcaps but by the time you get all that stuff, you could of just got a Arisaka light or a Surefire.
It might be a option for people that already have the Streamlights though.
Good review, this needed to be said.

unspoken secret: its okay to swap stuff around. everybody does it.
i find a lot of people under the impression they have to have dedicated this or that for every pistol or rifle and thats not the case. we are all on budgets.
a qd mount with a quality light for example is worth 3 protac's.
rainier arms has some elzettas on clearance prices right now and i think theres some haley/iwc mounts on sale too.
ill take the x300 off my glock 17 and put it on my ar without shame. ive even had to go harries technique with a rifle. im a very big fan of the surefire e series.
i think i sold 3 tlr-1 to get an x300. still have a tlr-1hl currently on an ak

Odd question, but have you tried fitting the batteries in the light with an O-Ring?
Talked to a few people and that seems to fix the flickering under recoil issue. That and the Arisaka tailcap adapter seem to make it a much better light.

Forget the protac, I’ve been running a stream light strion in a 1 inch rail mount for 10 years and never had issues or had to replace the battery. It’s heavy, but so are tanks and they can take a beating. You do lose a little tacticool edge, using a push button tail cap and all but if it works and never fails then it’s worth it. Plus the strion HL can run 2 hours on 600 lumens. Also it does have a proprietary battery but it can be done with its own chargers, and that may be why it works better idk.

Been shopping around for a light. I know I rather buy the modlite. Kept talking myself out of it and just go with the streamlight.
Went up to my local gun shop after calling them prior and being told they had three protacs. Got there a few hours later and they had all been sold. Working in another city today, was about to head over and try another gun store to see if they had a steam light. Glad I checked out RUclips after work.
Thanks Chris. I know what I should bought in the first place

@@jacobmanalang8162 I have the malkoff e2xtl which is a dual fuel That has 500 lumen and 55k candela. It has a massive throw but is bright enough with just enough flood to work indoors well as well. I prefer my modlite okw DF a little more, 680 lumens but has 69k candela so it also has a massive throw but has more flood so it is more conducive to indoors and indoor open spaces as well. Fantastic options, both hold up very well. The surefire m600 scouts are garbage in comparison. Double the lumen output, but that doesn't translate into much because the candela is much lower so it has alot of flood without much reach.

They may not be the best but they beat the hell out of the Surefire M600 DF. I bought several for various rifles and they all failed, multiple times. Funny that you went through 7 Streamlight Protacs because I went through 7 M600 DF’s. Every single one had output issues. Two completely failed in less than 150 rounds. Surefires customer service was good but their products sucked. I’d be interested how many of your Protacs would fail if you used an Arisaka tailcap adapter with a ModButton lite. I’m on to Modlite now, and they’ve been WAY better than the garbage M600 DF’s.

    • @redline870

@Random Pickle never used an M300. It’s specifically the M600 Dual Fuel. They’re known to be big problems. Other models supposedly aren’t affected but that was my first experience with SureFire and it was a $600 bad experience, which is why I now use Modlite.

The problem I've had with one of my ProTac Rail Mount 1s has been on my Maadi, mounted with a GG&G offset on an Ultimak. The issue began somewhere around/above 3k rounds where after firing a round the light would shut off, and have to be clicked back on (tailcap activation). I suspected, and was correct, that the CR123 battery was jumping off the terminals inside the light body. Using a AA battery it doesn't have any issue but, now it's only a 150 lumen light.
