I like the change to the dual tailcap; never really cared for the clicky button on the originals and I don't like the way the remote switch was a separate entire tailcap assembly. But Streamlight's crane style knock off plug sucks. It sucked on the TLR1 long gun kit, it sucks on the RM series, and it sucks for the Jack cap. Also the output on the 2.0 is terribly unfocused for such a massive light.
Be careful where you buy them. Buddy bought one off Amazon. He had issues and sent it to Streamlight who informed him it wasn’t real. They sent him a free replacement and he’s had zero issues with the real light.
The original hlx was good light and just needed updated. Corporate saw that and said, “ now let’s fuck it up!” That being said. I saw they came out with the hlx pro with more candela really quickly after this protac 2.
I've been running one of these lights for 4 months now and I've had 0 issues with it. I've had no complaints when using it at my monthly night shoots as well, it's been good to me so far (along with my TLR-7A on my pistol) BUT this was my first rifle light, so I don't have anything to compare it to. But for the price I can't complain. Shame to see this specific light be such a dud.

Went shooting with my new m4ish build a couple hours after watching this. It has skinny colt handguards and a streamlight protac HLX mounted to a Midwest industries FSB mount. I had the pressure pad taped to the handguard. After about 100 rounds I checked the light because the handguards were quite hot….. my fricken light wouldn’t turn on unless I slightly unscrewed the tail cap out and screwed it back in. That’s a bummer, I’ve had this light for about 3 years and have had it on 3 different rifles. It worked ok then and handled the heat decently well. I’m not sure if it’s the pressure pad not being able to handle the heat or if it’s the light that can’t take it, but ultimately it doesn’t matter… I’m saving up for another Surefire lol
I have the other protac: HL-X Pro.. It's only 1000 lumens, but it's 50k candella. Much better at reaching out. It doesn't have the foreskin sleeve thing or goofy charging port. I do like the dual purpose tailcap that has the plug and switch both built in. I wish it was cheaper though, for what you get... I just run mine without the remote switch.. and only use the button on the tail cap. It has been working fine for me.
I like the hand held HL-X mounted in a Vltor SB-OCG. No tape switch to fail, easy button access, and its easy enough to remove the light from the rifle if you need an extra flashlight for something. These have held up to 5.56, 7.62x39 and 12ga pump.
Streamlight has been hit or miss for me. The remote tail switch pad sucks, so I only use the click button. Arisakas are my go to for what it’s worth. See ya in Alabama next week brother.
Interesting. I ordered one of these by accident, intending to order the HLX Pro. When it arrived I was struck by how huge it is. I sent it back. I have 1 HLX Pro that is doing fine so far but hasn’t been run hard yet. I ordered a second one for another rifle and Amazon delivered one that had already been used. It had the exact same break on the switch jack. I returned that too. I’ll be taking its replacement to some training later this month. We will see how it holds up.
THANK YOU I’ve been saying surefire at the least for years. I have a g2x on my beater rifle for like 8 years now with an Odin works mount that has been beat to shit and used for dozens upon dozens of hours with heavy firing schedules. You can find decent gear on a budget but you gotta realize sometimes you’ll be paying the same amounts (as protac o light etc) but with no accessories or switches, just the basic light. Shoot ,my Odin works mount alone was 45 bucks 😂 and the g2x was 75
I also have very negative experience with the Protac series. A few rifle mounted lights worked well until they just died on me. I can smack them to get them working again but they are way too inconsistent to trust. I also have one of their handheld Protacs. It wasn't even exposed to any recoil and it still died went out on me after only a couple of months of regular work use. I still love my TLR-1 HLs and my TLR-7As on my EDC handguns but I've switched to a Modlite PLH-v2 on my work rifle and an OKW as a handheld and I couldn't be happier.
Very good review. I purchased this exact light about a month ago. I love it and it works great, but I use it at work as a flashlight, but from day one I was thinking I wouldn't use it as a weapon light. After watching this video, I'll just keep it as an edc and not try it on a weapon.
Don't know what it was but as soon as I saw this light I was turned off by it. The charging port just looks like a failure point and the tape switch plug in didn't impress me either.
@@deleteduser7132 That happens with the original pressure switch and tailcap, not the Arisaka + Surefire. Ive been running the Arisaka with SF ST07 for 2 years now and not had it flicker once. But YMMV.
I have had possibly the worst year with Streamlight this year. I'd had the old HLX and a TLR1 before, those were fine. I tried out the long gun TLR kit and came to discover their Crane plug will back out if you look at it wrong, so that was rapidly disposed of. I got an old style HLX for a fun upper, didn't seem to have a any issues up front, and then just bought a ProTac RM2. The RM2, in under 200 rounds, now flickers from mild shock and possibly heat. I checked the HLX and it probably has a similar round count on it, it flickers from just dropping the bolt. I know there are lots of quite convincing fakes floating around right now, but after looking at posts about the fakes all of my products appear genuine, it's a shame that they're just genuinely garbage. They're still my handheld of choice and I throw PolyTacs in any bag I have, those things have a wicked good beam for the price, but I'm resigning myself to paying actual money for long gun lights from here on out (got an Arisaka 1 cell coming tomorrow)
I hate the coin/tool slot on the screw for the TLR1. I always grab needle nose pliers to grab the side of the screw to tighten. It’s wearing down the edge of the screw though. The tool/coin slot is a nice idea but too wide and not precisely cut enough for use
The HLX Pro is pretty awesome. the Pro is 1,000 lumens and 50k candela so it actually throws a lot of light pretty far. The protac 2 is dogwater. Edit* I want to add that Arisaka lights are still my recommendation for "budget lights" I would trust, but I have been testing the HLX Pro and so far its been cool, and it hasn't had those tail cap issues yet but will keep an eye out, and it doesn't have that charging sleeve body thing.
Yep.. That's exactly what I have. That 50k candela works great on a rifle. I really like the dual purpose tail cap. I just use the tail cap button on mine.. but I like that the plug is already there if I decide to add it later. It has been a great light for me. I'll probably buy another one to be honest.

Yeah it's weird because there are random cases of them doing just fine long term.
I got one, couple buddies of mine have one a piece, but I also went through 3 to find that one that won't die lol.
Locktite it,since it can charge from body
Doesn't do much good when water defeats the seal even though I've never used the sleeve to charge the light
Every site I’ve visited has this light in their top 5. This guy doesn’t know anything.
I'd love to know what these sites are so I know who else doesn't use their equipment
Just Google “ best weapon light”
Streamlight didn’t give you free one for your RUclips so you’re thrashing them.
Google “best AR weapon light”
@jefflovaasen1962 I've reviewed streamlight products positively before dude...
If it sucks it sucks, and I'm not holding back. This thing sucked so hard that it barely got used before it quit which is why I'm thrashing it.
Again, what sites did you visit, I need to know who else isn't using their equipment.
Damn you’re going to be 30 minutes from how did I miss that
While you’re here check out sweet creek farms some of the best food about 10 minutes from the farm
Surefire masterace.
You overpaid bro.
@@reliablethreat23 Ouch.
@@reliablethreat23You get what you pay for
As a surefire and streamlight dealer I can say that i have never seen a flashlight "just break" there is another side of the story. That said there have been some QA Control issues on both Surefire and Streamlight. Tat said Streamlight unlike surefire stands behind their product. Reach out to them and they will send you a replacement. If you are just going to com eon here and flat out bash them for 1 issue with your exaggerated stories I have to ask, Who paid for this video?
Lmao
The other side of the story is just what he said: He let his woman use it. :)
HLX are great and the protac1 series i cannot kill lol
Get a olight odin
Shhhh you’re gonna anger the poors.
massive amounts of copium inbound.
The Tlr7a is hard to get the controls on? You sir are full of shit
Everybody thinks this until it comes time to actually have full control of the light. The new controls on it are far better, but still ass.
I know one worse. Enforce.
I've had 3 streamlights stop working randomly but they were their sub $50 I have 4 streamlights more expensive that have worked over the last 10 years
Laughs in goon beam 😂
You just kicked a bees nest of Streamlight simps lol
Love my TLR1
Otherwise I’m running Arisaka Bodies with Makoff heads. Seem to hold up great
I’ve beat the dogshit out of mine. Made sure all the cables were tied up tight and been using it through 10000 plus rounds and a few classes. Love it maybe I got a good one
Sorry, I don’t believe nothing happened to break that plug
Don't be sorry, stand on what you believe.
I don't care..... at all.... what you believe because I do this far more than you.
But don't apologize like a bitch, say it with your chest.
This review couldn't be more wrong. I beat the hell out of mine around the house, or the rifle. Iv had zero issues. He said it's terrible and garbage. This review is the only garbage I'm seeing. Won't be using him for anymore reviews. If your lady can't take care of her stuff that's on her. The damn cord is a cord, it's not steel. Stop being so careless. Also he said the cap kept backing off and coming lose, BULLSHIT. He sounds like a little kid trying to tell us iphones are better then androids. Stop acting like you don't get what you pay for.
THIS IS A GREAT LIGHT AND I RECOMMEND THIS LIGHT TO ANYONE IF I THINK IT SUITS THIER NEEDS. 100%
It's interesting that my lady has more experience at this than you simply because she used it.
Around the house.... or rifle..... Aiight tough guy lmao

Garbage Review.
Im literally waiting for you to bring back early 2000 fudlore of "if its not an iron sighted g19 and a 6920, with irons only, with green tip, your going to die in. gunfight"
Yeah well........ I'm not lol
You must be new here then.
Hlx pro
you are so getting sued. clear defamation. always communicate with the vendor regarding warranty concerns before posting something like this. good luck with the recantment/settlement.
lol
Streamlight PROTAC's are complete TRASH!!! They suck way worse than Olight. I have 2 Odin's and they're both still running fine today.
Having owned 2 Protac's, 1 of them broke within 3 months of very minimal use and the other one doesn't work 100% while shooting. Other than pistol lights, SKIP Streamlight! I just run Surefire G2X tactical for my basic go-to setups.
I appreciate your review, but 5 minutes in, and you are complaining about it, but not actually showing the flashlight, talking about its features, how its supposed to work and then where it failed.
That's racist
