I love that you sat with CodeMasters and they told you what makes a racing game, well a racing game. i learned so much information then just a simple google search, Thanks Donut Media! Hopefully i can produce a racing game and have James and Nolan in it as well!
I'm in the process as well except I didn't went to full sail university Way to expensive! I had a friend that went there and he had to drop out because of how expensive it is Again good university way to expensive and he only learn how to make a simple basic game but then again you have to talk with others and spend your time wisely also I wish you luck with your game :)
Dirt rally is the first game I have from Codemasters. I like it a lot because even thought it's competitive, I can still play it in a non-competitive way, just finishing each race the best I can and enjoy the view.
Back when I was doing a lot of racing games, I played mostly hardass sims like GT-R, rFactor, and Richard Burns Rally. But of all the vehicles I've driven in all the games I've ever played, nothing will ever compare to the GT-40 in Gran Turismo 2. It was a monster that was devilishly difficult to drive, especially with the "on/off"-only controls available on the PS controller. The smallest misapplication of throttle would break the tires loose, causing the back end to step out and come around, and would ruin your lap time. I never really mastered it, but learning to occasionally *harness* it was one of the most satisfying experiences I've ever had in a video game.
Serious, hardcore racing and rallygames with old legendary cars in it is my cup of tea. Like in dirt rally 2.0 where they have the real sound of the delta s4 and 037!
I am one of those who likes to drive "boring" regular cars in games. This way I can test out different cars I am interested in within my IRL budget. It gives you a rough feel of which you like the most :) And then modify them in the game to get inspiration for your upcoming project car.
With a vehicle design and implementation, my team use to build a rough wireframe, put working nodes in appropriate places, then modify physical limitations within those nodes. After that it's down to the programming where we modify physics based on the game engines limitations and adjust for realism or cartoonyness. We then add sound effects for damage, movement and the engine. After that we take it to the art guys to build a mesh body over the wireframe and then adjust the crashbox to match the new body. Then we recheck out physics to make sure we aren't clipping or glitching the model together. Then we color and beta test the vehicle for glitches and visual review.
It's official! You people don't like fictional cars, you people wish GTA uses licensed cars. So you see rather a real life Toyota Supra IV explode than a Jester Classic explode?
In a perfect world turn 10 would record all of the engine sounds. But with 800+ cars in the game it would take far too much time and money to record every single one. That's why only a few cars get their sound recorded.
I've been a long time viewer of Donut Media and just recently got Dirt 5 for my PS4 via PS+, and I am excited to play the game. James and Nolan really are in the game!
@@dionshtraza6907 remember sounds need to be comfortable to the players ear even if it's tinkering with the car's sounds because as much it will be cool to hear a real car sound in game ..chances are you will feel discomfort in a few minutes of going at top speed ..
I'd like to know too. If it's anything like music, a bigger company acquires it dirt cheap. At which point they can either sit on it and it just stays in their catalogue unused, or they re-introduce long lost brands, as Spyker and Maybach did a few years ago. Unlike music though, sometimes the rights expire and independent sources (like the owners club) get the rights, allowing them to build original-spec aftermarket parts, and probably branding too. Armstrong-Siddeley Owners Club have the rights to their own parts. Ferrari is particularly weird with branding - they don't even let the official owners club use the prancing horse logo! My local branch chairman had to take a photo of the badge on his car instead.
If we had the world of The Crew and variety of vehicles, with the amount of cars, physics and upgrade system, with Dirt sounds and off-road vehicles that would be an awesome game.
Some people want content that isn’t pushed by a video game retailer in order for donut to boost their revenue.... what about some good ol up too speed or maybe even some D list ?
"Nobody want to drive boring cars." *Me looking at Gran Turismo 4* Nah.. Those "boring" cars like a Honda Fit/Jazz, Toyota Yaris, Suzuki Wagon R, and many many other regular road cars actually can be more interesting to drive than the many supercars. It feels more grassroots and in a way, very relatable since these are he cars that we probably actually drive in real life. Plus, having these regular road cars in a videogame is also a way to appreciate the automotive history as a whole since it's not just filled by supercars.
If they didn't just have a pool of CAD files sitting around and slowly leaking them out to buy time for actual any meaningful updates to an extremely unfinished game.
I’ve got a 2009 Impreza (NA but still), and was surprised when I drove the 2008 STI in Dirt Rally 2.0 and I could predict the car better than any other. Yes, the STI is faster, but the balance and handling were amazingly similar to how my car feels in the real world. Props to these companies that are able to make this happen, it makes racing games so much cooler.
I would LOVE a D List episode on unique car features we wish had caught on. I humbly submit the 05 nissan xtrail for this list as it has centered dials, a glove box in front of the driver, and you can toggle air into the cup holders and center compartment for keeping your drinks a little cooler
Some context for my video at 8:30. This is a sequential race car which I accidentally shifted from 6th to N to 1st. This was a big from an earlier build of Automobilista that was fixed. Automobilista, ironically, has some of the best sound... when the engine runs in its designed parameters...

honestly as a new student that got into Full Sail for Game Development.
I had a friend that went there and he had to drop out because of how expensive it is
Again good university way to expensive and he only learn how to make a simple basic game but then again you have to talk with others and spend your time wisely also I wish you luck with your game :)

"Making them handle like the real thing."
And you talked to Codemasters to find that out?
The irony is real.

games made by Genki Racing Project: Here have a Kei van

Serious, hardcore racing and rallygames with old legendary cars in it is my cup of tea. Like in dirt rally 2.0 where they have the real sound of the delta s4 and 037!
I am one of those who likes to drive "boring" regular cars in games. This way I can test out different cars I am interested in within my IRL budget. It gives you a rough feel of which you like the most :) And then modify them in the game to get inspiration for your upcoming project car.
Looking at Dirt 5 gives me some serious Motorstorm feelings and I can't say I hate it.
Shoutout to the small group of people that just one normal everyday cars back in Forza.
"No one wants to drive a boring car"
Yeah, no, i'd rather drive boring civics and corollas than yet another fetus-catering hypercar.
There is no such thing as a boring car, only a boring driver. (Unless the car acts as the driver.)

Yaris vs Fit vs corsa anyone? Slow cars needs to make a return... I miss forza4 days where slow cars are fun too
Here we go again with the old "Oh look. I'm so unique, I don't like hypercars."
Well as far I know I add each side live to determine the grip body roll etc 💫💫💫
Modern Gaming is close to being the ultimate media. So much amazing effort goes into them
Goes on about the step about licensing...
GTA series: Oh really?
(Everyone recognizes the cars, but they don't give them their actual names.)
Well they have to change very little bit either a bit smaller taillight headlights side windows and they can definitely get away with it
It's official! You people don't like fictional cars, you people wish GTA uses licensed cars. So you see rather a real life Toyota Supra IV explode than a Jester Classic explode?
9:51 turn 10 needs that and not reused car sounds from three different cars
In a perfect world turn 10 would record all of the engine sounds. But with 800+ cars in the game it would take far too much time and money to record every single one. That's why only a few cars get their sound recorded.
Can you do an up to speed or wheel house on Saturn

How is the licencing for defunct brands? They simply don’t need a licence(which i highly doubt) or who do you have to ask for permission?
My local branch chairman had to take a photo of the badge on his car instead.
whata happened to #donuteveryday ? love the content, seeya!
If we had the world of The Crew and variety of vehicles, with the amount of cars, physics and upgrade system, with Dirt sounds and off-road vehicles that would be an awesome game.

"Nobody want to drive boring cars."
*Me looking at Gran Turismo 4*
Nah..
Let's respect Forza Horizon 4 developers. They give us 4 new cars every month and it can take half a year for some cars. Respect.
If they didn't just have a pool of CAD files sitting around and slowly leaking them out to buy time for actual any meaningful updates to an extremely unfinished game.

Some context for my video at 8:30. This is a sequential race car which I accidentally shifted from 6th to N to 1st. This was a big from an earlier build of Automobilista that was fixed. Automobilista, ironically, has some of the best sound... when the engine runs in its designed parameters...
