I'm curious what was cut from the original draft of this episode. I was expecting more details on each iteration and what changes came with it. Like fm3 rewind feature and top gear influences. Fh1 didn't have as much freedom offroad or things you can crash into as mentioned in the video. Lots of invisible walls. Wasn't till fh2 where there was a little more freedom and destructible items, then fh3 really embraced that and took it further. Omitted the hot wheels expansion to fh3, that was amazing. Lego expansion was fun on fh4. Kinds wished this episode was a little longer. 😢 Still enjoyed seeing Forza get some ❤️
@@Stumbler69513 I feel like it was necessary to establish the starting point for the first forza motorsport. But overall more time could've been spent talking about how the game evolved over time. Just add another 2-5 mins to the video. Just seemed rushed to me.

You did an amazing job with this Up To Speed on Forza. But you forgot to mention a major feature in the game that set them even further apart from GT and that's Engine Swaps. The fact that you can swap motors in a game was incredible. An the fact that they use to tell you what car the swap came out of was a great touch as well.
Well you say that, but GT7 is bringing Engine Swaps of its own to the party and from the one we saw in GT7’s State Of Play, the engine model number is shown too. :) Nevertheless, both franchises are legends and represent their respective consoles incredibly well.
Let's not forget the supercharger whine of a roots blower. The sound between Corvette and mustang cobra superchargers in Forza motorsport well compared to gt series. It was just better on Forza.
Forza has played a HUGE part in my journey as a car enthusiast. Great times with friends on the Horizon side of things and Motorsport has allowed me to learn some of the most famous tracks around the world. Dan Greenawalt & Turn 10 had many, many, MANY meetings with manufactures about collision modeling. The companies felt it might show their brand in a negative light, naturally. IIRC They came to these companies as car lovers, first and foremost and made it clear they weren’t just trying to smash the cars up purely for silly video game reasons. They really helped the manufactures see the big picture; that there were a lot of potential fans and potential customers if they were willing to play ball. Kudos to them!

The most fun i've ever had in video gaming, period, was the short time when Forza Motorsports 4 and Horizon 1 were new and active. I truly feel like FM4 is the last one made by car guys for car guys, with a massive car/track list. I still play to this day. The open world aspect of FH1 was a game changer, literally. I spent thousands of hours on those games with my friends. I will never forget those memories. The newer games are great but they really lack the essence of what made the early titles special.
@@terracar2003Forza 7 is solid if you're okay with a reduced car list and the dumb homologation system. Forza 6 was the last Motorsports entry to have a full Toyota lineup
I feel the same about fm4, its the last game where you put an rb26dett in your datsun, not a 2.6l inline 6. Its the last one to have a lot of normal cars like jettas and sentras. I wish for fm8 they would do more cars like that instead 750 ferraris, 900 lambos and suvs. I also wish they would do more visual changes. Like im sorry but if i have an old honda civic and i run a fully built motor with turbo and exhaust, my exhaust pipe is not going to be the stock 3/4" pipe.
Forza's mission statement is accurate to this day. It turned me, a gamer, into a car enthusiast. Last year I couldn't tell you anything about cars except what make and model I drove. And now... I spend my evenings watching Donut media and drifting on my sim racing rig.

More Up To Speeds on racing game franchises would be welcome, especially as a lot of contemporary enthusiasts were first introduced to cars by video games. Need For Speed, Midnight Club, Test Drive, Tokyo Xtreme Racer/Shutokou Battle, etc. Also, maybe do a D-List about interesting one-off titles, too? Enthusia and Auto Modellista come to mind for that.

The original Forza Motorsport will always hold a special place in my heart. It was literally the very first videogame I ever played, when I was just 5 years old. My step dad was (is) a very big car guy, and he liked video games, so it was a great way for us to start bonding.
I collect videogames/consoles and I suddenly lost attraction to new games I just stick with old games, ps1 and stuff but I just bought a Xbox a month ago and downloaded a couple of games but maaaan, I just can't stop playing Forza, the fun factor of this game is unreal, I seriously recommend it, it's a whole new level in games in general and mainly Driving games.
I'll always remember having a dream about playing Forza Horizon 2 when it was announced and saw some brief gameplay back in 2014. I was so hyped about it that I literally obsessed over it. I now have it on my hardrive as a shrine to the good ol' days.
My favorite feature of Forza horizon is the ability to drive (first person) and see the vehicles interior from the drivers perspective and not just from the hood of the car
Forza horizon 3 was the first one I played and I enjoyed the hell out of it. My favorite aspect was the ability to tune the cars. I built so many tunes on every game since then the games gave me a chance to use my car knowledge
I own six Forza games: Horizon 1 and 2 and Motorsport 1, 3, 4, and 7. They are what taught me how to drive, tune, and revealed that my favorite cars weigh nothing and have no power. I am completely indebted to this series
Not as thorough as I expected. I thought you would have included more about the development of motorsport 2-7, especially the addition of drift steering angle and cockpit drift camera motion. I was really excited when those were added to the game. Also when you're tuning the car in horizon 5, you can rev the engine now! Fun!
Liked both your videos and l learned a few things from you, but one key difference and one of most important key differences that sets grand turismo and Forza is car engine sounds, all cars in grand turismo sound the same forza took the crown even till this day and this is one thing a true car lover respects and stays loyal to. good job on your videos !!
I personally think the Horizon franchise took it up a notch!! It was this open world racing sim that was even more fun to play rather than the fixed circuits in the motorsports variants
God damn it Dan you did it. You make me a car guy. Before this I was thinking my first to be some fuel efficient corsa, but after this I bought myself an E39, from that day last year I not became a car guy, but a BMW fanboy. Thank you Dan.
As a racer, Forza always feels like a video game. GT is a sim, the understeer/oversteer model transitions so well and so real which is why it is such a great sim. I don't have anything against Forza, except GT will always be better in my mind.
I feel like saying "I learned a good bit about cars playing a video game " is a testament to how detailed these games are. Also it seems to carry less skepticism from people.
Oh just shooting a comment while completing Donut Media Collab in Forza Horizon 5, cheers on your success guys! Been a sub since 20 k on a channel. You totally deserve the success
The OG Forza Horizon is still my favorite racing game today, way more nostalgic than GT! It always amazed me after playing Underground 2 that there weren't more open world racing games, so when this came out it really was the next step for racing games.
maybe because it literally has no competition?? don't even say "need for speed" cuz i'm only gonna laugh at you for bringing this up, nfs is long dead.
I don't remember if Gran Turismo has these options, but one of the two things that I find really awesome about Forza is that is you rewind and you can turn off assists like ABS, STM, and TCS. It really encourages you to drive properly but it isn't excessively punishing since you can quickly rewind if you mess up.
Forza Horizon was my first real racing game and it is still my favorite to this day. Getting on after school to drift around Red Rock with my friends and competing against other clubs in drift tournaments with my tricked out, custom livery Silvia will forever be a core memory for me. ❤️ EDIT: If any of my buddies from that game are somehow here, it’s xXGeneralFragXx and I’d love to meet up on Horizon 5 with y’all! 🥺

Felt like forza Horizon 4 was a joke. 2 and 3 were the best imo

@@Stumbler69513 I feel like it was necessary to establish the starting point for the first forza motorsport. But overall more time could've been spent talking about how the game evolved over time. Just add another 2-5 mins to the video. Just seemed rushed to me.

@@speed7bump, FM4 is still the best game in the history of the franchise imo. It was the one time that I felt Forza truly beat GT on equal terms.

@@purwantiallan5089 Nope. FH5 now is a awesome game, FM8 though? No.
Nevertheless, both franchises are legends and represent their respective consoles incredibly well.
Let's not forget the supercharger whine of a roots blower. The sound between Corvette and mustang cobra superchargers in Forza motorsport well compared to gt series. It was just better on Forza.
it’s Donut, they always seem to forget key parts of the topic at hand and sometimes even use the wrong footage

The main reason most video games with cars directly modelled after real life cars don't include crash physics is that the companies licensing don't want their car to have a bad image on the public eye, so they force the developers to not include realistic crash physics in their games
Nah they're just abuncha narcs and cheapskates
Yep. I remembered that Nolan did mention that in his DiRT 5 video game Wheel House episode.
When I heard horizon 5 was getting set in Mexico, I was legit surprised and excited. When they said they had a desert area, I was even more stoked because my family is from Chihuahua.
I remember reading about the extreme blowback from certain manufacturers about depictions of vehicle rollovers in-game.
I delivered furniture to one of the car designers at Turn 10 for Forza. It was awesome to meet someone who helped create one of my favorite games
FH5 is a lot of fun, especially with a steering wheel, so glad they updated steering feel from FH4
Yes wheel feels so much better! Just sucks my garage in FH5 is pretty much the same as my one in FH4..
