13:59 -- Hello from a GT Academy winner! I spent countless hours playing GT growing up. Then it completely changed my life in 2012 having won GT Academy. Thank you for covering the franchise and GT Academy. It was a fantastic opportunity for normal, every day people to get a shot at the world of professional motorsports. Forever changed my life and can not thank Sony, GT and Nissan enough!
I remember being a kid and actually doing the whole 24hr race with my brother. Taking turns and never pausing the game. Hardest gaming I ever did but definitely worth it.
Man I did this with my best friend and at one point his little brother wanted to use the television and we told him no way and he grabbed a hammer and ran after us. It was terrifying. Success though.
My buddy and I did the same thing! Epic moment to finally finish it. And to think people do this for real with the physical strain and G-forces to boot...super human endeavor.
One thing that still stands out and sets GT apart from the competition for me is just how elegant every game is, regardless of when it was released. From the menus to the OST, to pretty much every detail, GT feels like art.
I remember playing GT3 non stop, driving a yellow EVO and telling myself, "One day im going to own a EVO." And here we are 20 years later and I have an EVO in my garage. All because of a video game.
@Yuri Lopes Just hustle man! I traded my R32 Skyline for it. Trust me, I never thought I'd own either of those cars. But I blame GT3 for my terrible, masochistic car addiction. Haha
Impreza/WRX for me. Still working on tracking an old GC8 model though since I got a newer one. I'm glad some GT fans managed to make their dreams come true much like its creator achieved his.
No joke me and my mom actually played Grand Turismo on the PlayStation 1 when I was growing up. And she actually liked it so much she would play it by it herself. Also might have something to do with the fact that she used to drag race a 1972 Corvette in the 70’s.
I remember playing grand Turismo 2 for days and days just to get that Red Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak hillclimb car. That car was the absolute beast of that game and would literally win you any course against anyone. That car made me love that game.
Lol that was the first thing I think of when I reminisce about GT2. There was a way to set that car up so it did like 400 mph and did a wheelie all the time! Haha
You forgot to mention how yout "drivers licence" and partial credits would transfer to the next release. It was always such a nice bonus for staying loyal to the game.
I remember going to my dads house on his weekend to have me, and accidentally erasing all of Grand Turriamo off of his memory card by mistake. My punishment was to complete all of the licenses before I went back to my moms. Seeing this typed out really makes me rethink my entire childhood.
Are we the same person? Exact same thing happened to me an my dad an I played through the whole weekend until we had the Escuda dominating at the final races.
Gran Turismo literally taught me how to race and drive properly. When the first one came out no believed me how accurate the feel of the cars were. Through every "game" released my skills only grew. It ultimately lead to me winning races and championships in real life racing. The thrill I get from racing people online is the same I get from doing the real thing. When I got on a real race track there wasn't a learning curve other than gravitational forces was non existent. I learned setup from Gran Turismo and the car I chose to race with was chosen from the catalog of cars I only learned about from Gran Turismo. I can't give enough credit or thanks to this simulator for the driver I am today. If you want an example of this monumental influence this game had on the planet, the FIA backs this simulator. Nuff said. Thank you Kazi. Thank you Polyphony Digital. And thank you Donut Media for giving this simulator the credit it deserves.
I was 17 when GT came out and I read that big fat driving manual it came with and it truly taught me the basics to understanding the physics behind track driving. I always felt it helped me be a much better driver than my peers, and I still believe that!!!
Me and my grandfather grinded through GT3 together when I was very little. This game birthed my love for cars first handedly. I am now obsessed with driving, rather than mechanics, specifically because of the way this game showed you the spirit of competition within the car scene. It is a masterpiece
Gran Turismo 5, given to me as a gift by my mother 12 years ago, is the sole reason I am hardcore into cars. That game is a core childhood memory for me. I can’t wait to play GT7.
Just 29 seconds in and nostalgia hit when I saw the racetrack of my childhood, the High Speed Ring. This game brings back so many great memories growing up with my brother. We'd take turns doing endurance races, we took the game so serious like it was our job. We even checked with each other before buying cars and upgrades like it was real money lol. Good times man, good times.
Gran Turismo has defined a lot of my life, including becoming an actual race car driver, owning a stock car, enjoying the finer cars in life including owning a Camaro and rebuilding my trucks engine with over 500HP! Gran Turismo was my first PlayStation game and to this day I play the GT series and have a display on my games shelf just for Gran Turismo!
I took up simracing 2 years ago when I turned 59. Had never engaged with online or single-player gaming to that point. GT Sport has brought me so much pleasure in this time of COVID lockdowns (I'm in Australia where we hold the world record for lockdowns). And a couple of my friends are in their 70s and pretty quick, lol.
I'm 61 in Canada started with GT 1. I was always a bit of a car guy. I even got high speed evasion and pursuit driver training, which came in handy being a courier driver. 😁
38 years old and I can still remember the first time I played Gran Turismo. Was an experience I'll never forget and I've bought every one since. Hoping 7 brings back the feel. Sport let me down.
There's a touching and cool story that went around the horn a couple years back regarding GT. A young man's father had passed away and one day while looking through some old stuff he found a GT game and memory card or something. Anyway, there was a save on there with an insane lap time around one of the tracks that was made by his dad. The guy decided to get back into the game temporarily, git gud, and beat the time. So, for a while he would try and beat the ghost car of the insane time around this track. Just in case "ghost car" is an actual thing. Just a faded car that's a recorded version trof when that person saved the lap time. For a while this guy felt as if he was racing against his dad...as if his dad left a part of him behind. Then one day after trying and trying to beat this insane time of this lap by his dad, he was about to win. Only he realized that if that happened then he would be the new fastest time on this track so the ghost car of his dad would be deleted. So he stopped and lost. He figured he had so much fun trying to get to the time set on this track by his father, why beat it and delete it. He knew he could...and he wouldn't get anything for "winning". So he kept his dad's record lap time in case he ever felt like being as close to his dad as possible and going for a lap or 2 with him.
Christmas 2001 was lit: GTA 3 blew my mind with its freedom, Gran Turismo 3 blew my mind with its graphics and attention to detail, there will never be a generational leap like that again.
Couldn't the same be said about Forza Motorsport 4 (and 5) and its Autovista with Jeremy Clarkson and Co.? What i'm trying to say is, the GT franchise isn't a unicorn that did something no one or nothing else did.
@@k.r.99 I don't think you watched the whole video and you came at it with a Forza fanboy mindset. Forza wouldn't exist if Gran Turismo didn't exist, Gran Turismo greatly changed the way racing and motorsport games were made and they continue to have quality rivaled by very few.
You guys missunderstood me. Forza was just a spontaneous example. I'm talking about the fact that there were many things in the 90s and early 2000s that introduced people to car enthusiasm, other than GT. For example you have Top Gear.
@@k.r.99 their comment never mentioned Gran Turismo being a unicorn. It is exactly as they stated; it introduced many to tons of cars. Car games will always “teach people about cars” but it’s safe to say Gran Turismo was solely responsible for many since they carried models and variants of cars that were not carried in any other games ever and they’ve been doing that since their first game in the 90s. Forza in that regard was not breaking new grounds. Forza 4 was an excellent entry in its own right but for different reasons.
that one license test at Monaco with the red/white Toyota LeMans car lmao. I tried for months and could never get the gold time. Then like two years later at a friends house we're playing and on of my first laps I set the gold time on their save LOL
Licenses... Back in the day, my friends used to pay me to complete their gt licenses. They paid me according to which trophies they want me to get for them. The lowest rate was for just completing all of those licenses, doesn't care what trophies I got for them. The highest rate was for getting all gold trophies for each licenses test.😎
5 years development is why it was a masterpiece. Seriously though, gran turismo is what got me into street cars and circuit racing. I was interested in drag racing prior to that but it opened a whole new world to me. Love gran turismo.
Gran Turismo really thought me about how can slow cars be more fun than fast cars and really helped me on the understanding of downforce and suspension mechanics.
100%. I far prefer to make a nimble little 4 cylinder scream around my local hills than have a big powerful boat of a car that wants to understeer over the edge 🤣
Honestly, at the time, the game physics felt so real, that this game was able to teach me how to drive a car, and how to take advantage of things like weight transfer/body roll, and how to maintain road grip with a real car, before I ever started driving. Only racing game I've ever played that gave that feeling. Absolutely amazing game.
The amount of tweaking I did with this game on my suspension really did teach me so much to do time attacks. GT2 Bab-Ae. Also leading me in to buying a z32 and loving the amount of things I could do to my car to personalize it to me. These games are everything to me.
I remember playing GT on ps2 with uncle as his so amaze on my driving skills but the truth was i know how the pressure sensitive button work as if i press it harder the car on the game goes faster. His really hook the game as its really felt realistic. Good old days.
One thing missing from the video : GranTurismo is famous for the OST music. Especially the JDM GranTurismo features music by T-Square which is a famous Japanese Jazz Band. You can mix and match with Initial D OSTs and it'll get you speeding tickets real fast.
@@noaht2005 yeah, Gran Turismo and Mario were the first videogames I've ever played. Now I have discovered that both Koji Kondo and Masahiro Andoh have been conspirating with my whole life. Also, Daiki Kasho is God.
Like 3 months back, I was playing Gran Turismo 3 on an emulator. My dad saw what I was playing and was surprised I even knew what it was. We talked about it and we decided to buy ourselves a ps2 again. We got GT3 and the ps2, boy are we having fun. Truely a wonderful franchise that got me into cars.
I'm really glad, because GT3 is seen as the best game in the series (although I personally prefer 4 slightly, just because of the extra cars), but damn this comment made me feel old lmfao.
@@MemeJuicee people didn't like it as much at the time, because it wasn't much of an improvement over GT3, more like just "more of the same", which I guess is understandable, people felt like they'd already bought this game a few years earlier! But looking back on it all these years later, more of the same is perfect 😂
If I had a dollar for every hour I spent playing GT in college, and invested all of that into BTC, I would buy Donut right now. The upgrade system was brilliantly addicting.
Rented GT1 in 99 at blockbuster, immediately bought it. A few yrs later I bought the force feedback wheel and pedals, then had an aluminum frame built by local fab shop and made myself a simulator with a honda civic seat from a junkyard. GT taught me more about driving than I ever thought possible. Now I play GT in real life, I race a 350z. Thank you Kazunori Yamauchi.
I know GT can be snuffed at a bit these days because it isn't a full on simulator when compared to other titles, but I've always found it hit that sweet spot between simulation and arcade masterfully. Makes for a perfect blend of fun and technique
I was around 11 when i first got properly introduced to gran turismo. And ever since, now at 27, I've been a car guy thanks to gran turismo. Back in the day where Internet wasn't even a thing, there was something special about being able to see, hear, and race those amazing cars. And for that, I'll always be thankful to Mr. Kaz, he truly created a new generation of car guys.
As a big fan of racing games in any platform, I will truly thank the Gran Turismo team for revolutionizing racing sims and racing games in general. I still to this day have to play the console versions of GT but I have the PSP version of it on my phone through an emulator and boy! I get why Gran Turismo is so iconic. Great physics, wide range of customizations, so many cars to choose from, awesome looking graphics, and controls really well.
STP’s Sex Type Thing, My Favorite Game by The Cardigans and Garbage’s I think I’m Paranoid are still complete bangers! Then you’ve got Snoop Dogg with his Gran Turismo rap 🤣
I remember watching a documentary about the GTR, and Yamauchi appeared over since he was requested by Nissan to work on the graphics and interface of the GTR R35, also this gave Yamauchi the access to bring the concept GTR to appear on the GT game. Yamauchi, An absolute Goat.
Gran Turismo also partnered with FIA in GT Sport. They flew the best competitors from all around the world to compete in Monaco for the World Finals. I was one of the lucky players to go. Thanks for the video 🏆🏁
GT 1&2 got me into cars. The progress of winning different division race events, then using winnings to upgrade cars was addicting. Actual tuning of the number values for gear ratios and stance etc The tutorials/training disguised in the form of Drivers License tests were also genius.
I remember playing all the versions (yes I am that old) but gt3 really did stand out. I always got the ae86 in game so eventually, i just got a real one. And in GT Prologue, i got the gt86 in black and put enkei rs05rr wheels on it. Now i have one in my driveway with those wheels. I swear GT is just a wish list configurator haha
Yep, gt3 was different, the physics or handling characterisitics just seemed spot on in that one, just wish it had the used car lots like a couple other ones did.
That’s crazy because I got my ps4 just cuz I wanted play gran tourismo , growing up my parents didn’t want to buy me any console . I’m also a big fan of the ae86 panda trueno , and now I also have a 2017 white Brz limited which I’ve put black Sti aero parts all around , which literally will give you that ae86 trueno nostalgia. I can’t wait for GT7 and build a sim at home . I’m currently 22 .
I can remember in high school on the weekends my friends would come over and we would do the 24 hour races and take turns like irl endurance racing. Great times! Our parents loved it too. Give us a couple of pizzas and a 2 liter and you didn't hear from any of us for the entire weekend. Except for the one time I hit my friend, Josh, who was in first and caused him to wreck and he got mad and threw the controller through the window. 🤣

Today I'm a car enthusiast because of GT. I spend hours and hours just to read the description of any car, that was so ritch for me. I was playing a game and learn car specs and history at the same time! By far the greatest game I have ever played.
Gran Turismo did the impossible of straddling the line between approachability for newcomers to cars and gaming, and depth in car choice / courses for players who already were familiar with gaming and the racing world. On top of that, it's wrapped in an elegant J-Jazz package that everyone enjoys. It truly belongs in gaming legend.
I remember being 7 years old and playing Gran Turismo 3 and 4 on my PS2, I was astonished by the amount of car choices and the different modes. This definitely started my love of cars and motorsports.
I remember playing GT1 when it was still fresh back in the late 90's with my younger brother. We somehow earned enough credits to buy an orange colored NSX racecar (working our way from a stock Mazda Demio with a 1-liter engine or something ridiculous like that), and we were expecting to own everyone and everything with that car, but then we entered into some advanced racing series and were embarassed by stock looking Mitsubishi GTO's and Nissan Skylines. At first we were like "whaaaaaaat??!!", but then we looked into it and found out that - oh! Turns out you can tune a GTO, Skyline or Supra to 930 horsepower or thereabouts. That aspect of the game is what absolutely blew me away.
love this episode! gt is my favourite game of all time. i actually had tears reminiscing of the good, no great! old days of grinding for credits to beat the next track
i still remember seeing GT in a gaming magazine and wanting it immediately. when it came out everybody i knew played it. GT3 was incredible! and i remember being frustrated over GT5’s long release date, but i realize now how difficult it was to make. this game will always have a special place in my heart!
As a fan of the NFS and Grand Turismo I played these games with a passion. Until this day I'm glad I have got to learn more about the fame behind the game. I'm a mechanic now but it came thru this experience of gaming. I'll never forget it.
There is also a game made by Polyphony and used the same exact tracks and everything as GT4 and that was Tourist Trophy. Motorcycles. Although not as in-depth as GT, it was the best motorcycle racing game I'd ever played. The lean on those bikes was so smooth and the ability to adjust your racing style by position of your rider was incredible. Please do a video on that game. It needs some love.
I remember there was another rotary other than rx7 that was a four door and was an absolute drift beast and could spin the tires all the way through to the fifth gear and still had torque left over
I wish they would have included the Rx-3, SA/FB Rx-7, and the JC cosmo in the later games. They did a great job representing the rotary nonetheless. Just a little pissed they had every version of the skyline covered. I see why tho.
Gt3 saved my life in prison....sounds wild cuz it was, i grew up on it and while serving a short sentence years later in the big house we were allowed an hour per group to play ps2. Immediately i stood out amongst all the older car guys for being the only person to be able to beat the S license driving tests, forming some strong friendships/alliances with them...soon after i found my self in some serious trouble with the indians(native americans) after an incident that happened in the kitchen. Long story short my guy Bj was a diehard fan of racing and in some ways looked up to me for my ability to race, not too mention everyone knew he was crazy af (serving life without parol) and vowed to stab anyone that tried to mess with me in any way. God bless him for keeping me safe, I hope he is doing well.
I played the original Gran Turismo SO MUCH it hurt. trying to get those perfect times and Licenses always felt impossible! I swear it made me such a better driver to understand understeering and oversteer, etc. loved it so much! Thanks for the content.
This video made me live it again, I had the fortune to grow up with this game's evolution (I played every title cronologically) and no other racing game since has been able to impress me the way GT3 did. I remember the game pamphlet where everything, from ideal line, apex and cornering to suspension settings and gear rates was explained. (I've got to say that as I grew up this game inspired me to drive pretty quick and also saved me during dangerous driving situations). Thank you for reviving these memories.
You should try the 24h of lemans on GT5 its a REAL 24H race, like, you start playing at 3p.m and ended at 3p.m,its really intense to play (if you got any PS3)
Yamauchi-san : "i would like to take the challenge where people in the world feel more reality than the real thing" Fans : "ARE THEY EVEN ALLOWED TO DO THAT!?"
Beyond being an encyclopaedia of automobiles the element that made it so addictive was the endless experimenting with settings that had demonstrable effects on the physics of the car in race. I spent more time experimenting with damping, spring rates and gear ratios than playing the career mode tbh.
When this game came out, my social life went out the window. I was absolutely hooked. This was THE game that solidified my love for Gran Turismo for years to come. To this day, I am still a devoted GT fan. There is no other racing game in my book that will surpass GT.

My 15 year old god son and I had a LAN racing night where we were playing Assetto Corsa. I instantly turned into the "BACK IN MY DAY" old man talking about playing the JPN GT when it came out. :-).
9:39 slight correction: you probably meant reflection mapping, which is what you were describing a few seconds before. Ray tracing is a very resource-hungry method to render stuff, and it has only been implemented in a few of the newer games. Ray tracing is when you calculate which and how the photon would've reached the viewpoint, pixel by pixel.
Yep I have a rtx laptop I can relate I play some ray tracing games and let me tell you real ray tracing would be impossible on a ps2 you are correct my man
About 20 years ago I was modeling for fun in Lightwave 3D on a decently fast PC and it would take several days to render a single frame of a 3D environment I would build when output at high res, 4x AA, & full ray tracing (calculates many reflections/refractions of each "photon" from each light source until it hits the "camera"). Game designers over the years have figured out extremely clever ways to fake ray tracing, such as environmental reflections discussed here. Those are pre-rendered images of the environment that are used to "reflect" off objects as they move. In GT1 & 2 the environment map (image) was a small very generic static image that wrapped around the car, and would not change as the car moved along the track. GT3 featured an environment map that was an actual rendering of the entire track, and that environment map was now tied to the track instead of the car so would "reflect" the actual track features the car was near on the track. I haven't looked into the ray tracing being used in recent games but I'm assuming they still are relying at least in part on pre-rendered image mapping. The amount of depth and detail of reflections that are calculated will have a huge affect on performance as will the efficiency of the code to make those calculations.
The comments gave me goosebumps and made me remember a lot , actually I had some tears, and really started buying them since ps3 And it gave the push to get into cars and motorsports and understand A LOT. Thank you James ❤️ I love you all guys ❤️
Gran turismo 1 was the OG. My favourite event was the Grand Valley Speedway endurance race of 60 laps in the Subaru Impreza rally car without tweaking the gear ratio. It would top out at about 257km/h but its acceleration kept it head of those other race cars with a higher top end. Definitely that race contributed to me learning to utilise the manual transmission L2/R2 really well, didn't take much to get to the high gear and smash it back down to 2nd gear on the approach to a corner. Had some favourite corners which you could only pull off using in manual and would get the most speed out of it. Definitely great memories.
The training in the first Gran Turismo game is why I can drive better than other people. They made you think about the mental aspects of driving and I played it so much it was drilled into me. I will always thank GT for teaching me how to drive since my parents failed in that aspect.
Seriously. Some people think it sounds dumb, but forcing myself to gold medal all the license tests with no assists definitely laid the foundation for my driving skills later in life.
Same here, my parents thought I was being dumb after telling them how much GT has taught me. They s̶e̶n̶t̶ forced me to go to a driving school anyway... but I aced it, even the teacher said I was the best student he had in a long time. I aced every test he threw at me on the first try.
Gran Turismo is the reason why im a car enthusiast, its the reason on how i find my dream car and its the reason why i keep on pursuing my dreams. The producer and his team may not been able to sleep properly for five years but i can tell its very well worth a hundreds or maybe a thousand kids got inspired by this game.
Exactly would have never know about GT-Rs and how insane they were without this game. I remember upgrading mine and feeling robbed for not having this car in the USA. They should have imported the Skyline and all it's trims over here from the get go and rebadged it as an Infiniti of some kind, that is the type of halo car that builds brands like the NSX did for the Acura label.
Yeah. It was all like capturing lightening in a bottle. I was just getting into and learning about cars when GT1 came out. I was modding my own car at the same time. It was a great time.
I never thought that Kaz was a street racer before he became a video game developer, then a real life racing driver. Gotta thank Kaz and the Gran Turismo franchise as a whole for changing the way racing games looked and felt like forever, and we sure wouldn’t have Forza without Gran Turismo. As a die-hard Forza fan myself (even favoring Forza over Gran Turismo), and having played games from both franchises, I have to say that sometimes I’m envious of Gran Turismo, and while both have their strengths and weaknesses, both are insanely fun to play.
I was about 5 years old when my father was looking through his storage and he pulled out an old PlayStation 1 . He also pullled out the Original Gran Turismo 1 and 2 discs. We hooked it up to the TV and started playing Arcade Mode. From that moment on I was addicted to cars and that game. It has been years now that I have been playing these games and I'm a full on car nut. Ahh, good times back then.
Oh boy, In and of itself, Gran Turismo 2 turned me into a car lover when I was a kid. It was so great and brings back so much nostalgia. Except the licenses. F* the licenses lol.

No joke me and my mom actually played Grand Turismo on the PlayStation 1 when I was growing up. And she actually liked it so much she would play it by it herself. Also might have something to do with the fact that she used to drag race a 1972 Corvette in the 70’s.

The drivers license teach lessons for life.
I remember going to my dads house on his weekend to have me, and accidentally erasing all of Grand Turriamo off of his memory card by mistake. My punishment was to complete all of the licenses before I went back to my moms. Seeing this typed out really makes me rethink my entire childhood.
Punishment fits the crime.
The question is did Dad get gold or bronze on the license tests?
Definitely fits the crime. I would have beat my kids ass and made him redo my licenses….
Did you just drop a piece of pizza on the floor?!? Now eat this whole large by yourself!

@@k.r.99 yes, Forza motorsport was actually inspired by Gran Turismo... The video even mentioned that...

@@hernans.5613 Gotta agree. Forza is leaps and bounds above the gt series, anyone calling it not a simulator hasn't played the game.
@@hernans.5613 motorsport isn't that good... horizon is great, 5 is one pf the best racing games of the year, maybe the best
@@hernans.5613 Forza, both Horizon and Motorsports have shit physics, shit compared to other simcades that it's. They're still very fun arcade games tho
The first Gran Turismo is the foundation of my love of racing today. Great times playing that game as a kid.
My 15 year old god son and I had a LAN racing night where we were playing Assetto Corsa. While I was trying to teach him about driving, at one point I mentioned how far we had come since I couldn't imagine anything like a VR mode in the original GT.
He said "what is Gran Turismo?".
...
Came here to post this. Thanks.
No, he meant it separately. That nowadays you can get away with Ray Tracing, but back then it was difficult. Not saying ray tracing was used in it.
He meant Environment Mapping.
The comments gave me goosebumps and made me remember a lot , actually I had some tears, and really started buying them since ps3 And it gave the push to get into cars and motorsports and understand A LOT. Thank you James ❤️ I love you all guys ❤️
Gran Turismo got me into racing games and cars on a whole 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Same here.

Yo, that Taco Ding Dong hat is something special.
Where can I get some wheels, tires, and suspensions?

I never thought that Kaz was a street racer before he became a video game developer, then a real life racing driver. Gotta thank Kaz and the Gran Turismo franchise as a whole for changing the way racing games looked and felt like forever, and we sure wouldn’t have Forza without Gran Turismo.
As a die-hard Forza fan myself (even favoring Forza over Gran Turismo), and having played games from both franchises, I have to say that sometimes I’m envious of Gran Turismo, and while both have their strengths and weaknesses, both are insanely fun to play.
Forza never really did it for me, too much of an arcade feel I guess. Although I loved playing it, GT in some way always felt more 'real' to me.

Gran Turismo 😍
I got the best feeling when my mind flashed back to 2001’ish playing this with my little brother. He died in ‘08. We would stay up till three or four in the morning playing Gran Turismo and GTA San Andreas. Great video 🙏👏
As a kid I played racing games like Pole Position and Rad Racer but Super Monaco GP 2 was the one that got me hooked.

I am reliving my Gran Turismo a-spec experience once again.
Emulation has come a long way, with all the upscaling that really does make a difference. I also got a Logitech force gt working - force feedback.
Everytime I have a gpu upgrade, I check how far the emulation can be pushed.
I wrote a paper on Gran Turismo and the GT academy, when I was in university. It was the best graded paper of my life 🤣
That's as funny as my friend doing a paper about KFC
Funny how that works when its something you actually care about right?
@@thatracinglife my thoughts exactly. Gt6 was the newest entry at the time, my prof mentioned to me that after ready my paper he was looking I to getting a PS4 and gt6 haha. I still to this day haven't played GT6 and I sold someone on it
I must’ve had more hours listening to the smooth jazz in GT5’s dealership, looking at all the cars I couldn’t afford, than actually racing.
Night Birds by Yudai Satoh.
For it was listening to - heads will roll- while grinding for credits on Daytona
Night Birds by Yudai Satoh is simply iconic, everytimr I hear something about GT5 I always remember thr golden times of when I was yonger, playing GT5, and admiring the premium cars on thr Dealership
After Rain by MAKOTO is really good aswell
8:44 The fact you guys included one of my all-time-fav, old-as-fugg, "car" games in all of history truly caused me to punch that like button as hard as I possibly could. Thank you for that! #rock&rollracing
Just when I started playing the PSP Gran Turismo game again. Loved it as a kid, and I still love it to this day. This game and Initial D are responsible for my long-lasting attachment to cars.
I remember as a kid before we got robbed, Gran Turismo 4 was the game that brought me into racing games. Singlehandedly introduced me to Forza, Need For Speed, and now I'm here learning about cars hoping to buy my own in the near future. I'd give anything to replay Gran Turismo 4 where I left off before it was stolen
i have a copy but no ps2 :/
@@gearguru9777 get a good PC and PCSX2 emulator and get that copy running on it.
Just make sure the PC you're getting has a CD drive so the emulator can run the game.
Love Gran Turismo. It’s the god father of racing games. I honestly can’t imagine what racing video games and sims would be like today if GT wasn’t made. I’m so glad it was. It’s inspired so many other titles. It’s also an encyclopaedia of not just cars but all kinds of history and motor racing. It’s amazing the lengths and details GT games go through. GT is truly like no other.
Also I went to the February 2020 GT Championship in Sydney and got to meet and take photos with the man. I shook Kaz’s hand the same hands that helped make GT. Wow hehe. Anyways I’m just to glad GT exists. Great video it was so informative and entertaining.
I was 18 when GT1 came out. My friend and I played nonstop till our eyes hurt. At the time, I thought someone had created the perfect game just for me. GT is like a religion. Or a cult. Probably both. When you’re passionate about an interest and the universe throws you the greatest gift to fuel it, you feel fulfilled. And a bit undeserving. Thank you Kaz, and thank you universe.
I remembered buying this car and playing it till the late hours of the night. I wish games had this kind of impact on me still. Commitment is real!
I remember as a kid everyone had the first Gran Turismo and we'd always be talking in the playground in school about the races we'd done and the difficulty we managed to beat on different circuits. Legit everyone I knew played it and we were about 7 or 8 when the first game came out. I still play GT4 once in a while when I get sick of Forza 7
GT4 was a masterpiece, I still play it too when I have free time, so much replayability.
I spent one summer playing this game for hours, all those driving reactions I have learnt during play saved my life twice in 2 separate car accidents I kid you not.
